(Additional chapter for book lovers’ book Eden 5/5)
Han Cheng stood up in surprise, and then walked all the way to the warehouse where the grain was stored. According to his previous memory, he opened the door of the warehouse marked with "nineteen" on the wall.
Most of the storage here is soybeans, and the other part is peas with blackened skin.
After Han Cheng came in this time, he ignored the soybeans that had turned into a variety of foods after the stone mill and brine were taken out, and went straight to the peas stored on the other side.
After figuring out the value of peas, a new food obtained from the semi-agricultural tribes, Han Cheng also attached great importance to it.
So this spring, Han Cheng directly asked people to plant all the pea seeds they had obtained in the fields, covering an area of about 30 acres.
Now after the harvest, we have obtained several thousand kilograms of peas.
Looking at these black peas at this moment, Han Cheng was filled with joy and excitement. These were not peas at all, they were clearly jelly!
Now the autumn heat continues to rage, the weather is unbearably hot, and many of the tribesmen who have strong appetites have lost their appetite due to the heat. It is a good time for jelly, an appetizer and a heat-relief tool, to come into play!
"Carry out two bags!"
Han Cheng said to the senior brothers and others who followed him.
There are many people in the tribe, and they are all big foodies. Now when they encounter food like jelly in such hot weather, one can imagine what will happen next.
So Han Cheng directly asked the eldest brother and others to carry two bags, which weighed almost two hundred kilograms.
The eldest brother and others naturally obeyed Han Cheng's orders.
After carrying the grain out of the granary and closing the door, Han Cheng brought his senior brothers to the canteen where cooking was done.
Ask someone to find a few large basins, pour the peas in the bag into them, and add water.
The procedure for making jelly with peas is similar to that for making tofu with soybeans. Both require soaking the dried beans in water first, and then grinding them with a stone mill.
However, Han Cheng did not just leave it alone after adding water. Instead, he called two female primitive people who had experience in washing grains and asked them to wash the peas.
The tribe shells and removes the seeds from the peas on the threshing floor.
Although the grains have been threshed with stone rollers before being processed, it is inevitable that some sand and dust will be mixed in with the grains. It is very important to wash them before officially making the food.
Two female primitives sat on a wooden block, each holding a sieve woven with broken bamboo strips under the guidance of Han Cheng, and began to wash the grain.
The so-called strainer is an essential tool for washing grains. It is a circle with a diameter of about ten centimeters, with a handle and a slight depression in the middle.
Because it is woven from bamboo strips, it is very water-permeable.
The two female primitives held sieves in their hands and stirred the peas that had been submerged in water in the pottery basin in front of them a few times with their hands to disperse them so that the fine sand and gravel deposited in the pottery basin could fully settle to the bottom.
Then he used a colander to scoop out some pea shells that were not cleaned clean and floated on the water and put them aside. Only then did he start to wash the grains officially.
The two primitive men held the handle of the colander, which was also made of bamboo, in their hands, sank the front end of the colander into the water, and then began to rotate it rapidly in circles.
During the rotation process, it does not rotate horizontally all the time, but sinks to the left and right.
In this process, the peas will be stirred by the colander and float up with the water, and then be scooped onto the colander.
As for sand that is denser than peas, it will basically not be stirred up.
After the two men had scooped out all the peas one by one, the water in the basin became turbid and there was sand accumulated at the bottom of the basin.
The washed peas are put into a large basin and soaked in clean water again. You can start making jelly the next morning.
Wu was fanning himself with a palm-leaf fan in his hand, watching Han Cheng and others processing peas from a distance.
He already knew that Han Cheng was making some kind of food.
In the past, when the witch found out that the Son of God was making something new, especially food, she would definitely come over.
But this time it was different. The hot weather made Wu feel suffocated, and he had no desire to eat at all.
Even when I think about food, I feel a little nauseous.
What a sin!
After realizing his current state, Wu, who was fanning himself with a palm-leaf fan, could not help but repeat his catchphrase in his mind once again.
In the past, when food was scarce in the tribe, I could eat any kind of food, and I always felt that it was not enough.
But now, faced with food that is so much better than what I had back then, I feel a little nauseous. If this isn't a sin, what is?
After repeating "what a sin" several times, the witch suddenly realized one thing: he was old.
If you can’t even eat delicious food, isn’t that just old age?
When this thought came to his mind, Wu immediately felt a little panicked.
In the past, the witch was not afraid of death, but now it is different. As life in the tribe gets better day by day, the witch does not want to die anymore.
Because he wanted to see how far his tribe could develop under the leadership of the Son of God.
I want to see these minors in the tribe grow up and work together for the development and growth of the tribe...
Because of this thought in his mind, Wu suddenly realized that he was old and became a little worried. He didn't eat much that night...
The next morning, Han Dashenzi, who had lost his appetite due to the hot weather and missed jelly so much, got up and ground the soaked peas himself.
Sister Bai Xue, who was pregnant, was still standing by with a wooden spoon in her hand, pouring half a spoonful of peas and half a spoonful of water into the mill.
The air in the early morning was crisp, and it looked like I hadn't woken up yet. In the silence, I could hear the sounds of dogs barking, chickens crowing, and sheep bleating...
The sunlight, which was not yet scorching hot, scattered through the bamboo forest, leaving behind dots of light and shadows.
The ground soy milk gathered into a column of water and fell into the large clay pot below, making a slight sound and creating a bunch of tiny bubbles. The air was filled with the smell of a raw bowl of soy milk.
The leisurely and comfortable morning actually made Han Cheng want to freeze time here.
The sling was hung up again, and the ground soy milk had to go through the same filtering process...
As time went by, the pure Chaoyang gradually turned into a veteran driver, no longer as gentle and clear as before, and began to show its power.
The weather became hot and humid, and the people working began to sweat.
Wu, who had been thinking for half a night and decided to force himself to eat more food, now had little appetite.
At this time, Han Cheng had already poured two cans of soy milk into the ceramic pot and had someone light a fire to boil it.
As the flames rose and a large amount of white steam rose from the clay pot, the already hot kitchen became even hotter, and the whole place became like a steamer. As soon as people walked in, they would immediately break out in sweat.
In summer, cooking in the kitchen is not such a good job...
Han Cheng wiped the sweat from his forehead and saw that the soy milk in the ceramic pot had boiled. He scooped it up with a ladle and poured it into a basin that had been prepared beside him.
"Son of God, are we going to add brine?"
People in the tribe, especially those helping in the kitchen, are familiar with the process of making tofu.
Although peas and soybeans look different, they both have the word "dou" in their names and are of the "dou" generation.
Moreover, the series of operations before this were exactly the same as when making tofu. So when he saw Han Cheng scoop up the cooked bowl of soy milk, he did nothing except asking someone to put the raw bowl of soy milk into the ceramic pot to continue boiling it. He didn't even have the intention of making tofu. After waiting for a while, he finally couldn't help but speak up to remind him.
After all, if you wait too long for the cooked soy milk to be cooked and then add some tofu, it won’t be very tasty.
Han Cheng wiped the sweat off his face with the towel hanging around his neck, smiled and shook his head, saying: "No need to add brine, this is not making tofu, but making another kind of food.
Besides, other beans cannot be made into tofu.”
Compared to tofu, jelly is easier to make. You just need to cook the raw soy milk and scoop it into a bowl to cool it.
If you buy pea flour directly, it will be more convenient and quicker to make.
It’s a pity that there was no ready-made pea flour for Han Cheng to buy at that time, so he had to grind the pea flour himself.
"This is a delicious food. I guarantee it will whet your appetite once it's cooked!"
Thinking about the refreshing feeling of eating jelly in future generations, Han Cheng swallowed his saliva, and explained the new food that was about to be cooked to the person who asked him with a mysterious look on his face, with some yearning and intoxication.
It would have been fine if Han Cheng hadn't mentioned food, but when he mentioned food, Wu, who was already annoyed, thought of the steaming rice that burned his hands when he held it in his hands and his mouth when he put it in his mouth. His stomach suddenly felt churning and he bent over and began to dry heave.
"witch!"
Han Cheng was shocked by this scene. He put the bowl aside and walked over quickly. He stretched out his hand and slowly patted the witch's back.
After a while, Wu finally recovered.
"Wu, what's wrong with you?"
Han Cheng asked worriedly. There was already sweat on his forehead, and now he was frightened by Wu's condition, and immediately another layer of sweat broke out.
"Son of God, I...I'm going to die."
Wu stood up and looked at Han Cheng and said with sadness and weakness.
As soon as these words came out, Han Cheng's heart suddenly beat, and after a pause, it began to beat like a drum. His legs and feet felt sore and weak, and he couldn't stand steadily, and he almost fell to the ground.
Looking at Wu, Han Cheng felt dizzy.
This… How is this possible! How can you die just like that?
In the entire tribe, Wu is the person Han Cheng respects the most, and he treats her like an elder.
Han Cheng just wanted this increasingly childish old man to stay with him and the tribe forever.
I went to watch the minors in the tribe grow up, and watched the tribe become better little by little with the efforts of everyone. How could it be that it is suddenly going to die now?
While feeling dizzy, Han Cheng's nose was uncontrollably sour and he had an urge to burst into tears.
The witch who was sitting on the stone reached out to hold the staggering Han Cheng, and let Han Cheng sit on the stone side by side with him.
"Wu, you...what's wrong with you?"
With the help of the witch, Han Cheng sat trembling on the stone. He looked at the witch and asked questions. His voice was trembling, his throat was very dry, and tears were dripping uncontrollably.
Wu also didn't expect that the Son of God would have such a big reaction after learning that he was going to die.
After a brief discomfort, Wu was infected by the atmosphere and thought that he would never see these things again. He felt even sadder and tears rolled down his cloudy eyes.
"I...I'm old, and I can't...I can't eat..."
After a long while, Wu finally spoke with an extremely sad tone.
"Wu, don't worry..."
After hearing what Wu said, more tears welled up in Han Cheng's eyes. He opened his mouth to comfort Wu, but halfway through, Han Cheng suddenly froze. The next words were stuck in his throat and he even forgot to cry.
"Wu, what do you say?!"
After being stunned for a while, Han Cheng looked at Wu who was sitting there with a face full of grief and tears, and asked again hurriedly.
"I... I'm old. I can't eat... I can't eat food. If I can't eat... I will die..."
The worries that Wu had been suppressing from yesterday until today, as well as his attachment to life and fear of death, were all aroused by Han Cheng. They were on the verge of exploding at this moment, and he became even more sad when he was asked this question by Han Cheng.
Getting old? Can’t eat anymore?!
Is this the basis on which you judge that you are going to die? !
Han Cheng, who had stopped crying at all, felt like he was being electrocuted when he saw Wu sitting there, crying so hard that she was about to burst into tears.
Is there anyone as scary as you? Is there anyone as tearful as you?
Wu, you have tricked me into crying, and I have not yet come to settle the score with you, but you are still crying here, don’t you feel guilty? !
Han Cheng was caught off guard by this sudden answer and stood there, not knowing what to say to express his feelings for a moment.
I couldn't eat because the weather was too hot. There were many people in the tribe with poor appetite these days. How could they be linked to death?
I knew it. I heard the noises he and Yuan were making at night just a few days ago. It doesn't make sense that he would fail after just a few days.
"Wu, don't be sad, you're fine!"
Before, Han Cheng's half sentence still contained some comfort, but this time it had become completely certain.
After hearing Han Cheng's words, Wu, who was crying, was stunned for a moment, and then cried even harder.
The Son of God must be lying to himself. He is the oldest in the tribe and he can't even eat. How could he be okay?
Han Cheng saw that Wu was crying even harder and felt helpless. For a moment he didn't know how to persuade this old man who was crying non-stop.
At this moment, Han Cheng's eyes suddenly lit up when he glanced at the bowl of jelly he had put aside.
"Wu, stop crying and have a bowl of the jelly I just made."
Han Cheng came to Wu with the jelly and spoke.
Wu, who was crying hard, felt annoyed again when she heard Han Cheng talking about food.
"I...don't want to eat...I don't want to eat..."
After Wu dry-retched twice, he stood up and waved his hands at Lian Lian.
"This food is different from the previous ones. It's very refreshing. I haven't felt like eating much these past few days, but I just ate three big bowls!"
As Han Cheng spoke, he looked like he was savoring the taste, and to increase credibility, he even exaggerated the one bowl to three bowls.
There is no way, old children, old children, sometimes they have to be treated like children and coaxed.
After Han Cheng said this, Wu, who was waving his hands, was stunned.
"real?"
Wu wiped away her tears and looked at Han Cheng in a daze.
"Of course it's true!"
Han Cheng said this with great confidence and moved the bowl of jelly in his hand closer to Wu.
Wu was about to answer it, but another wave of disgust came over him. After this happened twice, Wu gave up the idea of eating.
"Wu, close your eyes, don't look, take a bite and try it first."
Han Cheng was also a little anxious watching from the side, and felt a little worried for Wu.
Wu followed Han Cheng's advice and closed his eyes. Han Cheng brought the bowl to feed him.
However, the witch's face showed a determination as if he was ready to die.
"Open your mouth." Han Cheng said.
Wu opened his mouth and Han Cheng put a piece of jelly into his mouth with chopsticks.
The jelly tastes cool and smooth, with the sourness of vinegar and the spiciness and fragrance of garlic.
The witch, who was already half nauseous, suddenly stopped feeling sick when he realized that the taste of the food was indeed different from the food he ate every day.
He stood there with his mouth half open for a moment, then suddenly increased his chewing speed.
He swallowed the jelly in his mouth in two or three swallows.
Her tightly closed eyes also opened. Looking at the bowl in Han Cheng's hand and the jelly in the bowl, she no longer felt disgusted. Instead, her eyes lit up, and she wished she could pounce on it and eat all the delicious jelly in the bowl at once.
Seeing this, Han Cheng pushed another chopstick into Wu's mouth.
After being fed by Han Cheng for two bites, Wu felt that it was not enough, so he took the bowl from Han Cheng and kept putting the food into his mouth, not even willing to lift his head while eating.
The speed of eating was as fast as a whirlwind. In just a moment, the whole bowl of jelly was gone.
Is it possible for an old man to eat so quickly?
It was so powerful that even he himself was amazed and had to admit defeat. How could a person who couldn't eat and was dying do this?
"Wu, is this rice delicious?"
Han Cheng looked at Wu who finished a big bowl of jelly in one go, sniffed and asked.
"Smells good! It smells really good!"
Wu exclaimed with sincere admiration.
Then he raised his neck and drank up the remaining juice in the bowl. After smacking his lips, he looked at Han Cheng hopefully and asked, "Son of God, do you have any more rice?"
