Chapter 806: Oil Extraction Method Derived from Chinese Characters

(Additional chapter for the 10,000-dollar reward from book friend Ice and Snow Tyrannosaurus Rex)

After Han Cheng completely cured Wu's anorexia caused by the hot weather with a few bowls of jelly, Wu's spirit seemed very good and he returned to his previous state.

When Han Cheng saw the fruit that had almost filled Big Foot's stomach with feces, Wu Du saw his delighted expression.

Long before, he had wanted to ask Han Cheng what the use of this fruit was.

It's just that I saw that Han Cheng was in a very excited state at the time and was constantly arranging things there, so I have been holding it in until now.

"This thing can be used to extract oil, which can be used to brush rattan armor, rattan helmets, rattan shields and other things. It can also be used to brush the wood used by the tribe to build houses.

Things like rattan armor can become very strong after being brushed with this oil.

Not only will it no longer be damaged by fermentation, but it will also become very strong and difficult to chop with a knife!

The rest of the wood is brushed with the oil squeezed from this stuff, so it is no longer afraid of wind and rain, and can greatly extend the use time of the wood..."

Han Cheng excitedly told Wu about the various benefits of tung oil.

After hearing what Han Cheng said, Wu also became happy.

The reason why Wu was happy was quite different from Han Cheng's. Han Cheng was happy because he wanted to obtain tung oil, which would greatly improve the quality of things like rattan armor.

The witch was more happy because with the oil made from the fruit that could kill people, the Son of God would no longer waste the fat in the tribe.

Wu was really distressed when Han Cheng used fat oil to brush his vine armor a few days ago.

This kind of fruit can poison people to death, and the oil produced is probably inedible. In this case, the witch will not feel sorry no matter how much oil is applied to things like vine armor.

"Son of God, let's get the oil out of these fruits as soon as possible!"

Wu said excitedly.

If this oil can be produced earlier, the Son of God will no longer use delicious fatty oil to brush things like vine armor.

"Well, squeeze out the tung oil!"

After hearing what Wu said, Han Cheng immediately had the same thought.

The sooner the tung oil can be squeezed out, the sooner things like rattan armor can be improved!

Han Cheng stood up as he spoke, ready to start pressing the oil, but after taking two steps, he froze there.

Damn it! What can I use to press the oil?

In later generations, the oil pressing that Han Cheng saw was to send soybeans, rapeseed and other things to oil presses on the street, and have them use electric machines to press the oil.

After a round of machine operation, rapeseed and other things are pressed into cakes, and the squeezed oil falls into the basin below along the oil outlet.

However, as a person with a liberal arts background, I cannot make such a machine even if I work myself to death!

In addition to using a machine to squeeze oil, there is another way to get oil.

The method is to use a stone mill to grind oil, grind the roasted sesame seeds into sesame paste with a stone mill, and then put the sesame paste in a large round-bottomed pot and shake it back and forth continuously.

If you shake it like this for a long time, the oil contained in the oil residue will be shaken to the top.

After using something to remove the top layer of oil, continue shaking.

After shaking continuously for a period of time, some oil will be shaken out of the oil residue.

Han Cheng's grandfather used to grind sesame oil and then go out to buy oil with a shoulder pole. The two stone mills in the house are left over from that time.

Before Han Cheng traveled through time, he once went back to his hometown to take a look. In the deserted courtyard, many things had already been dilapidated, with only two stone mills still leaning quietly against the wall.

The stick used to discipline the child is still behind the door, but there is no longer a voice calling the child in front of the hall...

Han Cheng had seen his grandfather do these things many times when he was a child, so grinding sesame oil was no stranger to him.

However, as far as I can remember, only small-milled sesame oil is ground with a stone mill, while the rest, such as peanut oil, soybean oil, and rapeseed oil, are all squeezed out by machines.

This is kind of fucking embarrassing...

"Son of God, why don't you make oil?"

The witch, who was also hoping that Han Cheng could make oil from these fruits as soon as possible and stop thinking about making fat oil, did not go immediately when he saw Han Cheng said he was going to press the oil. Instead, he stood there in a daze. After a while, he finally couldn't help but speak.

Han Cheng sniffed and thought, “I want to press oil, too. I want to press oil more than anyone else in the tribe. But I don’t have the right tools to do it!”

You can't squeeze it with your teeth, right?

If you really do this, whether your teeth will be tired or not is not a big deal. The most important thing is that if you chew for too long, you will be served by a dung scoop...

I thought things were too simple, thinking that everything would be fine as long as I had the tung oil fruit... As expected, there was no such thing as simple things in the primitive times...

After standing here hesitating for a while, Han Cheng had no choice but to use the method of grinding small oil mills to see if he could successfully make some tung oil.

As for oil pressing, this looks like something that will be in the once in a lifetime series!

"Okay, let's go grind the oil now." Han Cheng said as he quietly changed the oil pressing process to oil grinding.

However, the witch did not notice the changes in wording. Even if she did, she could not tell the difference, because she knew nothing about oil pressing.

Han Cheng put the tung oil fruits in his hand on the ground, and then asked someone to get clean river sand from the riverside.

Then he put a lot of sand into the pot and asked someone to light a fire under the pot.

Such a scene left the witch who was following him and the others who were helping stunned.

Even when the hardships of his tribe were the most severe and food was scarce, no one had ever eaten dirt. But now the Son of God has become so powerful that he has actually skipped the low level of eating dirt and has started eating sand instead!

It’s just that this fine sand is very harsh on teeth when you bite it normally. Now that the Son of God has put it into the pot and stir-fried it with a spatula, will it become less harsh on teeth?

Although frying sand in a pan seems extremely unreliable, the Son of God usually does many things that seem unreliable to them, but later most of them turned out to be of great benefit to the tribe. Now, after the initial astonishment, many of the onlookers actually secretly believe that the Son of God can make the sand taste good.

Some people are even eager to try what the sand fried by the Son of God himself tastes like.

Among them, Wu, an old primitive man who had recovered from the initial shock, was the most excited and enthusiastic.

If sand can become delicious by frying it like this, then life in my tribe will be more comfortable in the future!

You don’t even need to farm the land. When you’re hungry, you can just go to the river and get some sand and fry it to eat.

Even after traveling back to the primitive age, Han Cheng's nerves had been tempered through countless trials and tribulations, and he felt that they had become very tough. However, after understanding Wu and the others' thoughts, Han Cheng couldn't help but twitch his face.

It's really too cruel! Even more cruel than me who came from the Foodie Empire!

Even people like me, who were born in the foodie empire, don't dare to eat the sand, but you guys are thinking of eating sand until you get old...

"This sand is not edible. Not only can it be fried, but it can also be boiled or steamed. The same is true if you add onions, ginger, salt, etc...."

After expressing his admiration for the cruelty and good teeth of the people in the tribe, Han Cheng waved his hands repeatedly and gave everyone some scientific knowledge, especially the witch, who needed to be explained clearly.

Half of the old man’s teeth are almost lost. What if some more of them fall out because of tasting fried sand?

In order to prove that he was not frying the sand for eating, after frying dry all the moisture in the sand until the sand was a little hot to the touch, he quickly dropped the half bag of tung oil fruits that Big Foot and the others brought back into the pot of sand, stirred it with a shovel and began to fry it.

When grinding sesame seeds at home, you need to fry them first. This will not only make the oil fragrant, but also increase the oil yield.

Since Han Cheng wanted to make tung oil by grinding small mill oil, he naturally had to follow this procedure.

Moreover, I remember reading somewhere that cooked tung oil is more effective than raw tung oil.

Tung oil fruits are large in size, and it is not easy to fry them completely without adding sand. The most likely scenario is that the outside will be fried to pieces while the inside will still be uncooked.

But it is different with something like sand that can provide all-round protection. Not only can it allow the buried tung oil fruits to be heated evenly, but it also prevents the heat from becoming too scorching.

With the experience of frying peanuts in shells, Han Cheng was able to think of this method, so it was not a strange thing to fry the tung oil fruit.

After some stir-frying, Han Cheng confirmed that the tung oil fruits were cooked and asked someone to turn off the fire.

After letting the sand cool down a bit, someone brought a bamboo sieve.

Shovel the tung oil fruits together with the sand inside into the bamboo sieve, hold it back and forth with both hands to dry in the sun, and only the fried tung oil fruits will remain in the sieve.

This simple and quick method opened the eyes of those who were originally thinking about how to get these tung oil fruits out of the sand.

“It smells so good!”

In Han Cheng's understanding, two trees that look very similar can both be called oak, but in some places, when people say oak, they only refer to the tree with large leaves.

These two types of trees also exist around the Qingque tribe.

Before Han Cheng came, acorns were a kind of fruit that people in the tribe were happy to collect during the winter.

"This is the only one!" Han Cheng pointed at an oak tree and said to the man holding the felling tools.

Unlike the forests in Han Cheng's hometown that were used as firewood gardens and were cut down without any chance to grow back, the oak trees around the Qingque tribe grew tall enough.

A few miles away from the tribe, Han Cheng soon fell in love with an oak tree, the kind that two people together could not hug.

If you want to squeeze out more oil at one time, the hole you make on the trunk must be large, because only in this way can you put in more tung oil fruits at one time.

Correspondingly, the tree used to make the tools must also be thick.

After Han Cheng gave the order, someone immediately came with a bronze axe tied around his waist. He quickly climbed up the tree and started chopping branches.

This is to make the tree make less noise when it falls, cover a smaller area, and be safer for the people cutting wood below.

After most of the branches on the big tree were cut down, four people who often pulled the big saw came in groups of two, holding two large bronze saws that were usually used to cut wooden boards, and started sawing from the left and right.

Oak wood is solid, especially old trees that are thick enough. Plus, the tribe uses bronze saws for felling trees instead of Bald Qiang's electric saw, so it wasn't until almost noon the next day that the tree was completely felled.

After the big tree was felled, some people began to transport the cut branches to the tribe.

The thicker ones can be used to build houses, while the thinner ones can be used to burn charcoal.

Several people pulling the large saw took a break for a while, took over the sharpened saw, and continued to saw the thick tree, mainly cutting off the main trunk of the tree.

The work was not completed until the evening.

By the time everyone brought the thick tree trunk back to the tribe, it was already noon on the third day.

Han Cheng only had a preliminary idea about how to make the tools for oil extraction and could only cross the river by feeling the stones.

After returning to the tribe, Han Cheng began to let the people in the tribe make tools according to his own understanding.

It is to dig out a round hole like a mortar vertically on the tree trunk lying on the ground.

After the round hole is dug out, ropes are used to tightly tie the two sides of the hole to prevent the wooden wedges from being nailed in too much and possibly stretching the trunk.

After finishing all these and preparing the wooden stakes to be hammered into the pit, Han Cheng poured the crushed tung oil fruit into the pit, and then placed the prepared wooden stakes upright in the pit.

After putting only a few in, Han Cheng stopped.

Because after these wooden pillars were put in, part of the loose tung oil fruit powder was immediately pressed up and could not be suppressed at all.

After thinking about it, Han Cheng stopped, pulled out the wooden stakes one by one, scooped out the tung oil fruit powder inside, wrapped it with linen, and put it back into the wooden 'stone mortar'.

Then continue to put wooden stakes inside.

These tree sticks pressed on the tung oil fruit powder wrapped in linen, and the situation just now was alleviated a lot, but there was still some fruit powder that could not be pressed.

Han Cheng could only stop again and continue thinking about a solution.

After a while, Rang Bo brought a wooden board of similar shape and size to the wooden pit, put it inside, pressed it on the tung oil powder wrapped in linen, and then put the wooden stakes into the wooden pit again.

This time, because the wooden stake was not directly pressed on the tung oil fruit powder, but on the wooden board that completely covered the tung oil fruit powder underneath, this incomplete pressing situation did not happen again.

Han Cheng's face showed joy when he saw this.

He himself had only a vague idea about how to extract oil, so he could only try it out, discover problems in the process, and find ways to solve them, perfecting this method of extracting oil bit by bit.

So far, the progress seems to be good.

At the beginning, the space in the wood pit was large enough, and it was easy to place wooden stakes inside. However, as the number of wooden stakes increased and the space inside became smaller and smaller, it became less easy to place wooden stakes inside.

Later on, you can only use a hammer to smash it inside, and this is also the most difficult time.

“Boom boom boom…”

As the hammers kept swinging, the wooden pillars were smashed down one by one, and the space under the wood pit was constantly squeezed. The tung oil fruit, which was pressed by the wooden board, shrank in size and slowly oozed out oil...

After seeing the squeezed grease through some gaps, Han Cheng's face was full of smiles. After working hard for a few days, he finally saw tung oil. How could he not be happy? At the same time, this also proved the correctness of his previous thinking!

Han Cheng was happy for a short time, but soon he encountered a new problem. Although the oil was squeezed out, there was no way to get it out...

Because the wood pit was basically filled with wooden stakes and there was little space, it was impossible to get anything in to scoop out the squeezed oil.

Han Cheng had no choice but to ask people to laboriously turn the big tree trunk 90 degrees so that the opening was parallel to the ground and pour out the grease inside.

Not much was poured out, only less than two bowls, and the oil yield was really low.

But this is enough to make Han Cheng happy.

But before Han Cheng could be happy for long, a new and extremely fatal problem arose again. That was the wooden stakes that were stuffed into the wood pit one by one and could not be taken out!

You know, in order to give enough pressure to the tung oil fruit powder underneath and squeeze out the oil, these wooden stakes were hammered into it one by one with bronze hammers.

So much strength was used to nail it down, how could it be so easy to pull it out now?

Bo and others tried for a while but were helpless.

Looking at the wooden pit that was nailed with wooden stakes that were short on the outside and high in the middle, like the plastic bucket full of bamboo sticks placed at the door of the deadly string, Han Cheng's face twitched.

The problem of oil leaking out automatically is easy to solve. You just need to make some more small holes at the bottom or on both sides near the bottom.

It is a big problem that the wooden stick that has been nailed in cannot be taken out.

You know, in order to dig out this wooden pit that was like a mortar, Bo and his team spent nearly two days, and now it has become a disposable item...

Moreover, this wooden pit is too shallow and too small, and cannot accommodate enough tung oil fruit powder at one time. According to the current situation, if the oil is squeezed in this way, even if there is sufficient tung oil fruit powder, such a pit can only produce about five or six kilograms of tung oil at most. The efficiency is really too low, and it is not cost-effective.

However, this tree is already so big that two people can't hug it together. It would be very troublesome to find a thicker tree and do the same operation again...
