Chapter Twenty-Five: Light

Jiang Chu was telling the truth.

The more luxurious the equipment, the more KP it requires.

However, the more luxurious the equipment, the more comprehensive combat power is needed to support it.

Otherwise, they would completely overwhelm beginners in terms of weight, controllability, and compatibility.

Therefore, in the numerous arms stores at military academies, there are professional salespersons who help customers conduct ability tests to determine whether they are suitable for the equipment they want to buy.

This is no joke; a soldier entering the wilderness wearing inappropriate equipment will often face death.

"I need 1.2 million KP to buy new equipment," Luo Xiaonan said honestly. "So I can only give you 800,000 KP."

Luo Xiaobei scratched his head, looking embarrassed, and said, "Actually, we don't need that much. I only need 100,000 at most!"

"Okay, we'll each get 300,000, so I'll give you 1.4 million," Jiang Chu said. "Use the extra 200,000 to buy supplies!"

"Thank you." Luo Xiaonan quickly served food to the two of them.

"Don't mention it. You're taking us to the wilderness tomorrow. The stronger you are, the more secure we'll be," Jiang Chu said.

"You're so sensible, I love you more and more!" Luo Xiaonan reached out and patted Jiang Chu's head, smiling as she spoke.

Jia Xiaoli, who had been quite happy just moments before, fell silent for a moment.

...

The next morning, when Jiang Chu climbed out of the incubation chamber, his blood and energy felt refreshed, and he was full of vitality.

Culture chambers are really great, especially advanced culture chambers that provide the highest quality culture medium for free.

Last night, Jiang Chu practiced horse stance and poked mung beans with his hands, almost ruining himself, but after soaking in the incubation chamber all night, he miraculously revived.

After cleaning the culture chamber, Jiang Chu took a moment to call his mother, Long Qingqiu.

The situation in the Northwest Province is not very good right now. The activities of the bio-monsters are much more frequent than in the Northwest Province where Tianzhou is located, especially in the mining areas.

Therefore, Jiang Chu was worried about his parents almost every day and would call them every day.

Fortunately, the parents are safe.

Long Qingqiu told Jiang Chu that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, they would return to Tianzhou within half a month.

Moreover, after this trip back, there's a high chance they won't go back again, because their son is doing well and will soon be able to earn money to support himself.

Long Qingqiu is right.

Students who attend military academies, especially top-tier ones, are generally quite wealthy because they spend most of their time in the wilderness, aside from their regular studies and training.

The military watches will evaluate the quality of the zombies they kill, and for each zombie killed, the corresponding KP will be sent to the killer's personal account.

The more powerful the monsters they kill, the more they reap the rewards.

Furthermore, they can take on various corresponding tasks to earn KP and other rewards.

Generally speaking, a freshman will stop asking his family for money after three months of school.

Long Qingqiu knew Jiang Chu was worried, so she offered him a few words of comfort.

After hanging up the phone, Jiang Chu went downstairs and had breakfast with Luo's mother and daughter.

However, Jiang Chu noticed that Jia Xiaoli's eyes were red and she wasn't in a particularly good mood.

Jiang Chu didn't ask anything.

After breakfast, Luo Xiaonan, Jiang Chu, and Luo Xiaobei prepared to set off.

At the door of her house, Jia Xiaoli called out to the three people and then put three red lucky charms that she had woven herself on their wrists.

Jiang Chu's heart sank.

"Go early and come back soon, have a safe journey." Jia Xiaoli was a little excited, with tears welling up in her eyes.

"Mom, don't be like this, I'll be fine! Besides, my sister and Brother Jiang Chu will protect me!" Luo Xiaobei quickly reassured her.

"Auntie, don't worry, we will all come back safe and sound," Jiang Chu said earnestly.

Only then did he realize why Jia Xiaoli was so worried.

These past few days, despite being exhausted from daily training, Jiang Chu still used his spare time to study military theory.

He learned from books that the first time high school graduates experienced the wilderness last summer, the casualty rate was as high as 11.2%.

That means one out of ten people will be sacrificed.

It's a terrible ratio.

Two years ago, the figure was 19%.

In the first year that military academies were first introduced in the world, the casualty rate was 57%.

In this world, the chances of a parent outliving their child are so absurd and uncontrollable.

Therefore, there are actually many mothers like Jia's mother.

They lacked formidable combat strength and could not accompany their children to the wilderness. They could only silently shed tears and offer their blessings on the night before their children's departure.

After comforting Jia Xiaoli for a while, the three of them finally prepared to leave.

Before leaving, Jiang Chu stood straight in front of Jia Xiaoli and gave a standard military salute.

"Auntie, I want to eat braised fish tomorrow night."

Luo Xiaonan and Luo Xiaobei also bowed and told each other what kind of dinner they wanted to have the next night.

Yes, they will return from the wilderness tomorrow night; this is their promise to Jia Xiaoli.

The three of them finally left.

Jiang Chu, being a snob, glanced at the rearview mirror.

I almost burst into tears as a result.

Jia Xiaoli had her back to them, seemingly covering her face and crying.

"It's such a small thing, Auntie doesn't need to cry." Jiang Chu laughed and then patted Luo Xiaobei's head. "Right, little girl?"
