Volume 7: Reflections and Random Thoughts
Volume 7 has 110 chapters, and the number of words is basically the same as the previous volumes.
In general, the "Liangzhou Chapter" of Volume 7 is a transition. There are not many contradictions and conflicts in it. Its main purpose is to lay the groundwork for subsequent plots.
Including the Eclipse Pearl, the love triangle between Chu Xianping, Li Zimu and Tang Chen, the mystery of whether Chu Xianping has betrayed, and the War of the Four Nations, these have only been partially advanced and the answers and endings will be given in the next volume.
Many readers may have discovered that the last few chapters of Volume 7 have basically nothing to do with Wei Changtian, and all they talk about is Li Zimu and Tang Chen.
I was actually a little too excited about writing this and couldn't stop.
Will adjust later.
After all, I know who the protagonist is.
Well. I don’t have much to say about the plot, otherwise it would probably be a spoiler, so that’s it for now.
Let’s talk about something else.
On July 16 last year, the first chapter of "The Big Villain" was released, and it has been one year and ten days to this day.
One year and 1.6 million words is not a lot.
But readers who read carefully should be able to find that my books are more carefully written than ordinary online articles.
The "care" here refers to some very ordinary details.
For example, I will deliberately avoid repetitive words, paragraph connections, transition designs, complete narrative of each chapter, etc.
If you read these things quickly, you may not feel them, and they have nothing to do with the plot.
But I always feel that it is my job to improve the reading experience to the best of my ability.
Although most people may not notice it, they should be able to feel that reading will be smoother. Every time I read book reviews, I find that the most common positive comment is "well written".
In fact, there are no long passages of plain description or fancy words or sentences in my book.
So I think the “good writing style” is probably because I put a lot of thought into improving the reading experience.
Use the simplest and most plain words to describe the most accurate and appropriate emotions.
Of course, there are many more details.
This also resulted in my writing speed not being able to improve.
It's really helpless!
I also tried to decide whether to give up so many details and just write the plot like everyone else.
In fact, writing this way is really fast and can almost double your efficiency.
However, after finishing writing and looking back at what you have written, if you read it hastily, there is really not much difference.
But if you read it carefully, everything seems weird.
So in the end I decided to give up.
It is better to just write in your own style and complete a work without any regrets.
After all, the first book was quite regrettable. The above are some of my thoughts one year after the publication of "The Big Villain".
From interest to hobby to part-time job, after I wrote my first book of more than a million words that has not been broken, it is now difficult for me to evaluate what "writing" means to me.
Sometimes I get really excited when I write, thinking that the plot will be particularly shocking or heart-wrenching, and I feel like I’m a rising star in the literary world.
Sometimes I find writing extremely torturous, especially when I’m not feeling well, or during a dull transition period in the plot. Typing each word feels like completing a task, and it’s more tiring than working part-time.
I often want to turn off the computer. I won’t write today. I want to go to sleep!
But for the attendance bonus of one thousand yuan per month, I have to grit my teeth and write.
Well. Although one thousand is not a lot, this book has been making a lot of money on Qidian every month since it was put on the shelves.
As for why, it’s not that I’m reluctant to part with the thousand dollars (actually I’m a little reluctant), but mainly because I’m afraid that if I really let my temper take me, I might not be able to finish writing this book.
So unless I really encounter something that I can't adjust to, or I'm feeling particularly unwell, I will sit in front of the computer after dinner every day and start typing until two in the morning.
Gradually it became a habit.
Therefore, "writing" is no longer a hobby for me now, but a habit similar to eating and sleeping.
As for making money from this, to be honest, which online writer doesn't want to become famous with a book and gain financial freedom?
I had the same fantasy when I first wrote the book.
But I don’t think so now.
My first book, "I Just Want to Be a Good Person", had a high subscription of 600, an average subscription of 200, and an unfinished version of more than 700,000 words. I made a total of 7,000 yuan (4,500 yuan of which was the attendance bonus given by Qidian).
The second book, "The Big Villain", now has 1.6 million words, which is more than ten times the original.
Before writing the book, I thought that with my many years of experience in writing, it would not be easy to make millions by writing online articles.
Obviously, in any industry, there are always geniuses who can succeed in one go.
I always thought I was one of them.
As long as I write, it will work.
But one day two years ago, when I saw another rejection email from the editor in my mailbox and looked at the hundreds of thousands of words of worthless manuscripts in the writing software, I realized -
Alas, it turns out that I am not a genius.
In that case, let's take it slow.
As long as there is progress, ordinary people can also succeed.
And so I wrote for another two years.
Fortunately, I saw progress.
Maybe a few years later, I can also be interviewed by an unknown media as a "well-known online writer".
Then the host should ask me——
"Have you encountered any setbacks during your writing process? Have you ever thought about giving up?"
And I would probably answer like most of the authors who have been interviewed, in a very pretentious way:
“There have definitely been times, but I’m glad I stuck with it.”
I guess by then, I would understand that this sentence is not just a pretense, but a sincere feeling.
Speaking of this, I suddenly remembered an interesting thing.
About a month or two ago, I saw a comment on Tomato saying that someone copied my book.
At that time, I immediately downloaded Tomato with an angry mood, and then found the book.
really.
I changed the character name, and everything else is copy and paste.
Before I opened the book, I was furious.
But when I opened the book and saw those familiar lines of text, I suddenly felt happy for no reason.
I just think so.
I never thought that one day someone would plagiarize my book!
(Unfortunately, that person only copied a few dozen chapters before giving up. Maybe there is no market for this book on Tomato.) (Fuck!!)
ps: After so much sentimentality, it would be a bit of a spoiler to ask for leave at this time, so there will be a chapter after 12 o'clock.
Oh, by the way, I haven’t posted the book club group number for a long time.
540542881, if you are interested, you can join the group to chat~ I am going to write now! Thank you everyone!!
