Chapter 279 The Demons in the Underground Base

Hearing Jiang Quan's words, Ling couldn't help but feel a little surprised.

To be honest, Jiang Quan never actually harmed anyone.

They were simply doing their jobs, fulfilling their responsibilities in their respective positions.

Ultimately, he never killed a single person.

Having figured this out, Ling nodded and said nothing more.

The two walked in silence until they came to an open doorway.

"This is?"

Zero doubts.

"This is the training room..."

Jiang Quan said.

The training room... have we finally arrived?

As Jiang Quan opened the door, a cold wind blew in, and Ling couldn't help but shiver.

The scene behind the door surprised Zero—

This is a training room filled with equipment. Many pieces of equipment are hung on the walls of the training room. These pieces of equipment look very old-fashioned and grand, but they also reveal a hint of technological atmosphere. Zero couldn't help but marvel.

Jiang Quan stepped forward to check the condition of some of the equipment and muttered:

"These machines showed no signs of having been used, so it seems those people were killed before they even reached the training room..."

"The problem now is, where are those people? Even if all that's left are corpses, it's better than having no clues at all."

Zero said.

"Doesn't your base have any detection equipment or anything?"

Zero then asked a question.

"I do have that, but I don't know if it will work..."

Jiang Quan said hesitantly.

What do you mean?

Zero asked curiously.

"This is actually just the most common biological monitoring instrument in our base... It can only monitor vital signs."

Jiang Quan explained. Ling suddenly understood.

“Monitoring vital signs would also work; if they’re still alive, then we can find them…”

Zero continued.

"Yes, you're right."

Jiang Quan nodded in agreement.

"Then I'll go get the equipment."

"Okay, then I'll wait here."

Zero said.

"Um……"

Jiang Quan nodded, then turned and left.

Watching Jiang Quan's retreating figure, Ling couldn't help but shake her head.

"Sigh, I hope they didn't die this time..."

Zero muttered softly.

Time passed slowly, and Zero waited here for Jiang Quan to return.

However, a long time passed, and Jiang Quan still hadn't returned.

Zero had a vague sense of foreboding. For some reason, he felt uneasy, which made him unable to calm down.

"No matter what, let's go take a look first..."

Thinking of this, Ling got up and walked outside, preparing to look for Jiang Quan.

Just a few steps out of the training room, a sudden gust of cold wind blew up, and Zero immediately became alert, taking a few steps back and searching his surroundings.

"Who is it? Show yourself!"

Suddenly, Zero roared angrily.

However, the only response he received was that same chilling wind.

Ling frowned, quickened his pace, and ran outside. He didn't want to continue this passive escape; he had to take the initiative!

Soon, Zero arrived outside the training room, but couldn't see a single ghost in sight.

Ling looked around but couldn't find a single clue.

"Was it just my imagination?"

Zero secretly speculated, but he did not let his guard down. He knew that the gust of cold wind just now was definitely not simple, and it was very likely that someone was playing tricks behind the scenes.

Thinking of this, Zero's expression turned serious, and his eyes were filled with a sense of solemnity.

Just then, a hand suddenly reached out from the crack in the door and pulled him inside.

"who!?"

He instinctively wanted to make a move, but was stopped by the other party.

"Shh..."

The man put his index finger to his lips, making a shushing gesture to signal Zero not to shout, and then dragged Zero further into the crack in the wall.

Zero was stunned after seeing the other person's appearance clearly.

What are you doing here?

Ling asked in surprise, not expecting to run into Jiang Quan here.

Wasn't he supposed to be looking for some kind of life monitoring device? How come he's here, and hiding in this place? Did something happen?

Thinking of this, Zero asked in a low voice:

"what happens?"

Jiang Quan shook his head at him, signaling Ling to remain silent for the time being.

Ling glanced at him with a hint of doubt, but said nothing more.

There must be a reason why Jiang Quan is acting this way; he wants to see what's going on.

Just then, the faint light from the crack in the wall flickered, and a shadow suddenly appeared on the dim ground, slowly approaching.

Zero's nerves immediately tightened; he wanted to know what that shadow was.

"They're here..."

Jiang Quan whispered.

The shadows drew closer and closer to them, finally stopping two meters away.

"It's a person!"

After Zero clearly saw the shape of the shadow, he immediately confirmed it.

Then, the shadow slowly raised its hand and waved its palm forward, as if touching something.

Ling watched all this with suspicion when he suddenly felt a slight itch in his palm. He turned his head and saw that Jiang Quan was gesturing something in his palm.

He can't see.

These four short words made everything clear to Zero.

"However, his hearing is very good."

Jiang Quan then gestured.

"who is he?"

Zero silently gestured to express his inner thoughts.

Jiang Quan stopped gesturing and simply shook his head, signaling Ling to calm down.
