Chapter 42 The Talking Lotus

Hua Xingcheng glanced at the Flower Goddess, his eyes lowered, seemingly lost in thought...

The next day, Hua Xingcheng went out of his house and, as was his habit, went to admire the lotus flowers in the flower canal every day.

It was a lotus unlike any other, and Hua Xingcheng especially liked it.

As he admired the lotus as usual, he noticed something unusual about it today; it seemed to have changed—

"Mother, come quick! The lotus is glowing..." Hua Xingcheng shouted excitedly as if he had discovered a new continent.

The Flower Goddess didn't pay much attention to the sound at first, but when she heard Hua Xingcheng say "the lotus is glowing," she suddenly woke up and almost fell off her chair...

Could it be that Lian'er has awakened?

The Flower Goddess walked outside, both happy and apprehensive.

Hua Xingcheng was still squatting by the flower ditch, looking at the "glowing lotus flower," completely unaware that his mother had arrived beside him...

Just as the Flower Goddess reached the edge of the flower canal, soft whispers drifted over:

"Who are you?" came the question, tinged with curiosity and innocence.

Hua Xingcheng jolted awake, sat down on the ground, pointed at the lotus flower, and said:

"Mother... Flower... Flower spoke..."

The Flower Goddess ignored her son, her joy tinged with a hint of caution. She looked at the lotus flower and asked, "Is this my Lian'er?"

The flower shook its petals, paused for a moment, as if pondering the flower goddess's words. Just as the flower goddess was overjoyed, thinking she would receive a positive answer, the flower asked in confusion, "Who is Lian'er?"

The Flower Goddess felt regret, but showed no sign of it on her face. She looked at the lotus flower and asked softly, "Would you like to hear a story?"

Before Lotus could answer, Flower Star Cheng, who had heard there was a story, immediately perked up and urged the Flower Goddess to tell it quickly.

The goddess of flowers gazed at the lotus flower, as if trying to see something through it, and began to speak—

"In a faraway place, there once lived a happy family. The lady of the house guarded two precious treasures. One day, a thief suddenly broke in, demanding that the lady hand over one of the treasures in exchange for his life. He promised not to harm her and would leave with the treasure. Naturally, the lady was unwilling, for the consequences would be unimaginable if the thief were to take the first treasure. However, at that time, the lady was powerless to protect both treasures, so she had no choice but to abandon one and deal with the thief. Just then, a young woman suddenly burst in, startling the lady. The thief seized the opportunity and stole the first treasure..."

“That girl is really stupid…” Lotus said with a hint of mockery.

“Indeed…” the Flower Goddess sighed and continued:

"The mistress was extremely anxious because her treasure was missing. The two treasures were symbiotic, with the first treasure protecting the second. If the first treasure was stolen, the second treasure would naturally also be in trouble. Just when the mistress was feeling disheartened, the girl who had broken in earlier told her that she had a way to protect the second treasure."

"Hmm, she still has some conscience," Lotus commented, swaying slightly.

"What method?" Hua Xingcheng, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but want to know the reason.

The Flower Goddess glanced at them, her tone becoming somber at some point, and slowly said:

"The mistress didn't want the girl involved, but the girl insisted that it was due to her negligence that the treasure was stolen, and she was willing to help the mistress protect the second treasure. The mistress couldn't persuade the girl, so she had to agree. Later, the second treasure was protected, but the girl left."

"That's great. Although that girl caused the first treasure to be stolen, she tried her best to make amends." Hearing this, Lotus suddenly felt that the girl was not bad.

"Mother, did that girl go back later?" Hua Xingcheng suddenly asked.

"Huh? Why would you ask that?" The Flower Goddess was taken aback, somewhat confused as to why Hua Xingcheng would ask such a question.

“Mother, think about it. Why did that girl happen to be inside when the thief broke into the mistress’s house? That means that girl must know the family. Since she knew them, and then left, did she ever go back?” Hua Xingcheng looked at the Flower Goddess with his bright eyes.

"She went back, but she's no longer the same girl..." the Flower Goddess murmured.

"Is it because that girl got old and doesn't remember them?"

"Hmm, I don't remember."
