Chapter Twelve: Cruelty

"It's so quiet here today," one of the team members remarked.

"Perhaps it's because we're too close to the base," a tall, thin man replied. Their mission today was simple: to collect supplies and survey the surrounding environment.

Fine sand blew in from the west, adding to the desolation of this barren land.

Suddenly, dust billowed up, as if something was about to emerge from the ground.

This strange situation caught everyone's attention. They looked down in confusion, silently took out their equipment, and focused their attention on the source of the sound.

Ever since Ah Hu's team had that incident, every squad has been extremely cautious when going out. Even the slightest disturbance will put everyone on high alert. Let alone something like this.

However, what they did not expect was that what came this time was not those alien species, but "humans" that had undergone mutation and evolution, modified humans.

These cyborgs were originally human, but were manipulated and mutated by malicious individuals. They have lost their original thoughts and are now mere puppets obeying their masters.

"Target: All. Begin operations." A mechanical voice rang out, and one after another, gray-clad servants leaped out of the ground and charged towards the group.

"Everyone be careful, prepare to fight back." After saying this, a man took the lead and drew his weapon to fight back.

Unexpectedly, the weapon's attack hit the gray-clad servant as if hitting cotton, failing to cause the slightest ripple.

Weapons are ineffective against them?

Panic ensued, and in the midst of it, the gray-clad servants pressed closer. They saw a man snatch up like a chick from an eagle, and countless tentacles appeared on his body. The man was then swallowed up at a visible speed and disappeared from the land.

"Who are you?" The panicked crowd watched helplessly as their teammates were swallowed up, their hands trembling as they gripped their weapons, their eyes filled with fear. The group began to stir.

The man in gray ignored them and continued to reap the lives of the crowd.

One by one, like a sudden storm, they swept through the land with overwhelming force.

The air was thick with a nauseating stench, and the air was thick with the scent of death.

This was a one-sided massacre.

They were devoured by the cyborgs without any chance of resistance, leaving not even a corpse behind.

The weapons in their hands were useless against the gray-clad servants, who were like lambs to the slaughter, one after another, shrouded in the shadow of death.

It was pitch black.

Finally, peace returned to all around.

If it weren't for the weapons scattered on the ground, one might think that nothing had happened here.

"Mission complete, 0 injuries, 0 targets survived." A green light flashed occasionally in the dark eyes before finally fading into endless darkness.

………………………………………

Underground palace.

"Reporting to Master, mission accomplished." A emotionless voice rang out.

"Very well, the second plan will be implemented in three days." The man sitting in the hall said sinisterly, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. The cat in his arms shrank back, seemingly afraid of the man, but a vertical line had appeared in its eyes. It wagged its tail again, as if trying to coax the man.

A cacophony of laughter rang out, tinged with madness yet seemingly overflowing with boundless pleasure—"Retribution! It's all your retribution!"

"You asked for this, hahahahaha..."

"You made me do this! You made me who I am today! I'll get my revenge on you!"

A slightly manic voice came from behind him. The man threw the cat aside and limped away. Underneath his black robe was a disfigured face.

If you look closely, you'll notice that his walking posture always involves more force from his left foot than his right foot...
