Chapter 11 New Mission

I couldn't help but feel a little discouraged: "Okay, I get it. This is blatant seduction. Even if we don't hurt others, we can't stop them from wanting to acquire our skills and hidden abilities."

Ji Lin'an said, "It's like a game where you fight monsters and level up. You start with equipment, but you have to do quests to level up and do dungeons to get more rewards."

I forced a wry smile: "So we've just left the newbie village. Let's look at the future. The lucky one we met today might also see the future, and maybe we'll meet in the future. I think we can observe first. If we don't kill him, we still have a chance to assimilate the lucky one."

Ji Lin'an nodded: "Okay."

Let's open a window to the future:

On the fourth month and 21st day of the zombie outbreak, we got up and ate breakfast as usual when a minor illness suddenly appeared.

"Master, the mission to kill the lucky guy has been activated. It shows that there is a mission target within 500 meters of you. Click on the mission tracker to get the target's location."

I froze, still with a rice ball and luncheon meat in my mouth. I looked at Ji Lin'an, who frowned and immediately put down his instant soy milk. He opened the special missions menu, and sure enough, there was a tracking button. Clicking it showed the location was southeast of us. I put down my rice ball, walked to the French windows, and pulled back the curtains a crack, looking southeast. 500 meters was already very close; living on the 27th floor, we had a clear view of everything below. I looked for a long time but didn't see anyone, only hordes of zombies. When I turned to look at Ji Lin'an, he had already taken out his gun.

Ji Lin'an glanced upstairs: "Go upstairs and change your clothes. We need to be ready for battle at any time. Although we don't know if this person is coming for us, we need to be prepared."

I nodded, ran upstairs, quickly changed into my cycling clothes, and came downstairs. Ji Lin'an was standing by the window, looking around with binoculars. I straightened my collar and asked, "Well, did you see anything?"

Ji Lin'an, holding binoculars without looking up, said, "I haven't seen anything yet, but some of the zombies downstairs clearly moved slowly in one direction after hearing some noise."

I ran over and asked, "Let me see, where is it?"

I ran up and took the binoculars from Ji Lin'an's hand. I looked in the direction Ji Lin'an pointed, and sure enough, some zombies were heading in that direction. I looked ahead in that direction, but my view was blocked by the department store.

I pointed to the building diagonally in front of us: "Should we change our perspective and teleport to that building?"

Ji Lin'an looked at the building and thought for a moment: "Let's observe it again. Now that it's a special period, should we save the number of times we can use the Anywhere Door to escape in a critical moment?"

After Ji Lin'an finished speaking, I looked through the binoculars for a while longer. The zombies in the distance were slowly dispersing.

I stared intently through the binoculars: "The zombies have all dispersed."

I handed the binoculars to Ji Lin'an. He looked at them for two minutes, and I squinted to look too. Suddenly, there was a loud banging at the door. I was startled and instinctively hid behind Ji Lin'an, grabbing his clothes. Ji Lin'an immediately turned around and shielded me with the hand holding the binoculars, while gesturing for me to be quiet with his other hand. He pulled me slowly to the sofa, put down the binoculars, and picked up his gun. I took my gun, and we slowly approached the door. The loud banging continued, and I could hear my heart pounding. Ji Lin'an looked through the peephole, turned and shook his head at me, mouthing that no one was there. I was too scared to look. I'd watched too many horror movies and was always afraid something would suddenly jump out of the peephole. After looking for a while and seeing no movement, Ji Lin'an pulled me to the kitchen: "Let's teleport to the next room and open the door there to see what's going on at the door."

I nodded, took out my phone, entered the address, and sent it to the next room. I was so nervous that I held onto Ji Lin'an's clothes tightly, afraid to let go. Right now, zombies weren't scary to me; people were scarier than zombies. When Ji Lin'an saw that my lips were pale with nervousness, he reached out and took my hand. Although I was nervous, he couldn't protect me properly if he held my hand, so I pulled my hand back and mouthed that it was okay.

Ji Lin'an cautiously glanced through the peephole, making sure no one was at his neighbor's door. He quietly opened the door, took out a small mirror from his bag, and pointed it at his doorway. A man covered in blood lay in a pool of blood, his face deathly pale. Ji Lin'an and I exchanged a glance; I nodded to him. We walked into the hallway, guns raised, and slowly approached the man lying on the ground. As we got closer, the man remained motionless. Ji Lin'an pulled me behind him, stepped forward, and pressed the gun against the man's head. He poked the man's head with the muzzle, confirming there was no movement. Then, Ji Lin'an knelt down and gently placed two fingers on the man's carotid artery: "He's not dead. There's still a sliver of life."

I gently pulled open the mysterious man's clothes with my knife: "The wounds on his body weren't caused by zombies, they were knife wounds, and not just small knives or daggers, but more like large knives like kitchen knives."

I only saw it once before my whole body went limp and I leaned against the wall, using the gun on the ground to support myself. Ji Lin'an saw this and came over to help me up, but I waved my hand and said, "It's okay."

As soon as I finished speaking, I covered my mouth and forcibly suppressed my churning stomach: "Don't look, his... his stomach has been cut open, you can see his internal organs."

After saying that, I couldn't hold it in any longer and turned around to squat in the corner and vomited. Luckily, I hadn't eaten much for breakfast. Ji Lin'an ran over and patted my back.

Ji Lin'an frowned deeply: "If we can't hold on, we'll go back. This person probably won't survive anyway."

I nodded, wiped my mouth, and was about to give the order to go home when the person on the ground suddenly moved. Ji Lin'an grabbed me and pulled me back. The person struggled to open their eyes and tried to speak, but seeing that we didn't intend to approach, they struggled to raise their shaky hand. Ji Lin'an and I couldn't bear to see this, so we slowly approached with our guns raised, trying to get our ears as close as possible to the mysterious person's head. The mysterious person then spoke with difficulty: "I...I am the lucky one, being hunted by another lucky one. I...I can't live anymore. If you kill me, you can get my skills. We can't...we can't let that person get my skills. Quick, kill me now."
