Xu Qi maintained his smug smile. Chen Hu, still not satisfied, stabbed Xu Qi a few more times, but Xu Qi remained unharmed. Chen Hu wanted to change his target but was stopped by Ji Lin'an, who looked at Xu Qi and asked, "Why did you save us?"
Xu Qi shrugged and looked down at the ropes binding him. Ji Lin'an stepped forward and untied Xu Qi. Chen Hu reached out and grabbed Ji Lin'an: "No, what if he asks someone for help after we let him go?"
Ji Lin'an shook his head: "If he wanted to ask for help, he wouldn't have brought me here."
Ji Lin'an untied Xu Qi, and after being released, Xu Qi got up and stretched his limbs: "Don't bother killing me, you can't kill me."
I frowned and asked, "Why?"
Xu Qi smiled meaningfully: "You'll find out later."
He turned to leave, but Ji Lin'an grabbed him, asking, "Where are you going?"
Xu Qi turned his head and said, "I'm still on duty. If I disappear for too long, the chip in my body will sound an alarm."
Ji Lin'an didn't let go: "Are we safe here?"
Xu Qi laughed and said, "Don't worry, it's safe. By the way, there's a signal jammer in my room, and you have tracking devices implanted behind your ears. You should remove them as soon as possible, otherwise my colleagues will soon find out that you disappeared from the zombie island."
We froze on the spot. After Xu Qi left, I reached behind my ear and searched for a long time but couldn't find the tracker. I searched behind both ears repeatedly and finally felt a hard lump the size of a pinhead at the junction of my jawbone and earlobe. I had to press it very hard to feel its presence.
The four of us looked at each other, unsure of what to do. Only Chen Hu looked at the fruit knife in his hand and said, "Use this? To cut the meat open?"
Ji Lin'an nodded helplessly: "This is the only way at the moment."
I took out the first aid kit from my space, and Chen Hu handed me the knife. I disinfected the fruit knife with alcohol. Chen Hu walked up to me and put his ear close to mine: "Su Yi, you help me. Just go for it. I'm not afraid of pain, as long as you don't cut my ear off."
My hand holding the knife froze. Chen Hu reached out and grabbed my hand holding the knife, pulling it behind my ear: "It's okay, don't be afraid, take it with confidence."
I put on medical gloves and disinfected my hands. I disinfected the area behind Chen Hu's ear, then hesitated to insert the scalpel into his ear, my brow furrowed. Ji Lin'an took a pair of gloves from the first-aid kit and put them on, saying, "Let me do it."
I quickly handed the knife to Ji Lin'an, who promptly disinfected it and stabbed it behind Chen Hu's ear. Chen Hu howled in pain but dared not make a loud noise, covering his mouth with his hand. Blood was flowing rapidly, making it impossible to see the tracker's location. I took out several bottles of disinfectant and cotton from my spatial storage. I poured the disinfectant behind Chen Hu's ear, and Ji Lin'an opened the wound with one hand. After the disinfectant washed away the blood, a silver head could be vaguely seen. Ji Lin'an immediately used tweezers to grasp it and, after several pulls, finally removed the tracker.
The tracker is spindle-shaped, silver in color, and only about 1 millimeter in diameter. Its front and rear ends are like needle tips, and its length is only about 5 millimeters. No wonder we didn't find it for so long.
Ji Lin'an placed the tracker on the coffee table, and Chen Hu curiously reached out and took it away: "Damn it, when did you put the tracker in there? How come I didn't notice it all this time?"
I thought for a moment and said, "Everyone had a medical check-up when we entered the shelter. I guess it was implanted when we were unconscious."
Ji Lin'an disinfected Chen Hu's wound and sprayed it with wound spray. The medicine quickly formed a thin film and stopped the bleeding. After applying the gauze, Ji Lin'an looked at me and said, "You go first and set an example for the little one."
Xiao Dian nodded quickly: "Yes, yes, sister, you go first. Don't wail like brother Chen Hu."
Chen Hu, clutching his wound, got up looking aggrieved. I sat down, my heart pounding in my chest. Ji Lin'an quickly disinfected the wound and then swiftly cut open my skin. Xiao Dian, mimicking my earlier actions, proactively picked up disinfectant and splashed it onto my wound. Ji Lin'an swiftly and accurately removed the tracking device. I didn't feel much pain before it was over. Chen Hu looked at Ji Lin'an incredulously: "So I've become your guinea pig, used for practice."
Ji Lin'an smiled without saying a word. After bandaging me, he quickly removed the tracker from Xiao Dian. When it was his turn, he held up the knife and looked at me. I sighed, took the knife, and followed his example to remove the tracker and bandage his wound. Dr. Ji Lin'an didn't say anything. My technique was not very good, so Ji Lin'an's wound was much bigger than Chen Hu's and Xiao Dian's.
After we retrieved the tracker, we rested inside for a few hours before Xu Qi returned, carrying several boxes. When we opened them, we found they contained food: a box of scrambled eggs with tomatoes, a box of braised pork ribs with green beans and potatoes, a box of twice-cooked pork, and a bucket of cabbage and pork dumpling soup. We were all almost moved to tears when we saw the food. We didn't even have time to say anything before we started eating. The moment I tasted it, I almost cried. It tasted like my mother's cooking. I hadn't had fresh stir-fried dishes in so long.
We emptied our plates in a flash, practically licking the lunchboxes clean. Xu Qi sat to the side, smoking a cigarette, opened a bottle of beer and drank it, then sneered, "Is it really necessary? Su Yi, don't you have a teleportation space with plenty of food? Why are you acting like you haven't eaten in centuries?"
I ladled out some cabbage soup, picked up the lunchbox, and drank it all in one gulp. Satisfied, I wiped my mouth and said, "You don't understand. No matter how much food there is in the space, none of it is fresh."
Xu Qi smiled and nodded: "Alright, let's chat after we finish eating."
Upon hearing this, Ji Lin'an put down his lunchbox and quickly packed it up and placed it aside. Xu Qi said, "You can't stay here for too long. I'll send you out in a bit. There's a storage room in the control center. It's not very big, and hardly anyone goes in. I'll take you in then."
Ji Lin'an frowned: "What happened after we went in? We just hid?"
Xu Qi raised his hand to stop Ji Lin'an: "Wait a minute, let me finish. Remove the trackers from the three of you, shall we?"
We nodded, and Xu Qi continued, "I saw you in the tracking system after you escaped from the zombie island during the day. I let you in, so I brought you in before the shift change."
I wanted to ask something, but Xu Qi didn't give me a chance. He continued, "My colleagues have already discovered that you are missing and are looking for you. But they didn't expect you to be in the control center. As long as you are not discovered by others, everything will be fine."
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Then, is it possible for us to escape?"
Xu Qi nodded: "That's what I'm going to talk about next..."
