Chapter 12 It's so hard to survive

I tried to recall what Ji Lin'an had said: "Ah, I remember now. That day, our company was doing a public service announcement nearby. It was so hot that I sneaked out to buy an ice pop. You paid for it and left. I was about to go out and chase after you when my colleague called and said that the boss was conducting a surprise inspection. I didn't care about anything else and immediately ran back to the assembly point. But how come I didn't recognize you then?"

Ji Lin'an smiled and patted my head: "I had a minor eye surgery that time, so I couldn't be exposed to light or the sun. I was wearing sunglasses, a hat, and a mask, so it's normal that you didn't recognize me."

I suddenly realized: "I knew it! How could I not recognize you? I should have recognized you even if you were ashes."

Ji Lin'an smiled wryly: "That's so scary, what have I ever done to you? Why are you holding this grudge against me?"

I gently buried my head in Ji Lin'an's arms: "There's no grudge, it's just that for many days and nights, I repeatedly looked at your social media, your photos, your videos, but when you actually appeared in front of me, I didn't recognize you."

Ji Lin'an didn't speak, but tightened his grip on me. Just as I was about to speak, Ji Lin'an started coughing violently. I got up, helped Ji Lin'an up, and patted his back. Ji Lin'an said weakly, "I'm afraid I can't accompany you to the end. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. You have to try your best to live on in the days to come."

I don't know when I started sobbing uncontrollably. I hugged Ji Lin'an and rested his head on my lap.

My eyes were glazed over: "Without you, I won't live much longer, but I want to avenge you."

I looked down at Ji Lin'an. He seemed to understand what I meant and forced a relieved smile.

Ji Lin'an smiled and closed her eyes: "Come on, I'm feeling quite uncomfortable right now, my wound hurts so much."

I put Ji Lin'an down, went to the kitchen, found a fruit knife, walked back to Ji Lin'an, squatted down, and looked at him for a long time.

I tried hard to hold back my tears: "If there is an afterlife, I hope you will find me sooner."

After saying that, I lowered my head and kissed Ji Lin'an. He also held my head with one hand in response. I held back my tears and plunged the knife into Ji Lin'an's heart. I felt Ji Lin'an's vital signs disappearing little by little until Xiao Bing reminded me that I had gained a new skill. I put Ji Lin'an down and turned to walk towards Ji Lin'an's house. When I got to the door, I pressed my ear to the door and listened for a long time, but there was no sound inside. I quietly entered the password and entered the house. There was no one in the living room. I saw the computer lying on the floor. I walked over quietly, picked up the computer, and walked to the storage room. I plugged the computer in, and Xiao Bing reminded me that the skill had been restored. I activated my clairvoyance and looked at each room. On the third-floor balcony, I saw the assassin's figure. He was lying on a chaise lounge with his eyes closed, a flower on his nose, looking very relaxed. I was so angry that my hands were shaking. I couldn't wait for the weapon space to activate. I directly conjured a gun from my treasure chest. However, the gun I took out from the weapon space had limited bullets. I had to take down the assassin before I ran out of bullets.

I tiptoed upstairs. As I reached the corner of the balcony, I peeked at the assassin. He was still lying on the chaise lounge with his eyes closed. I slowly approached, and when I was less than two meters away, I raised my gun, cocked it, and fired—all in one swift motion. But I underestimated the assassin's teleportation ability. By the time I finished shooting, a sharp knife was embedded in my chest. At the same time, several bullet holes appeared on the assassin's body, bleeding profusely. Only when the minor illness notified me that I had gained a new skill did I close my eyes in relief, lie down on the ground, and feel life slipping away...
