Chapter 122 The Arena

It was certain that the energy center was related to the memory loss. Ji Lin'an and I exchanged a glance, and suddenly an announcement came from behind us: "Members who have not yet gone to the energy center, please go to the energy center as soon as possible."

An Xin then stepped forward: "I'm still a bit confused. Weren't we dead? How did we suddenly come back to life? Where are we?"

Ji Lin'an turned his head and said, "It's a long story..."

Before Ji Lin'an could finish speaking, a man dressed in full white protective gear suddenly appeared behind us: "Get to the energy center immediately."

The man's voice was deep and his tone was displeased, giving off a somewhat oppressive feeling. Ji Lin'an turned his head and glanced at him, saying, "Let's go in first, and we'll play it by ear."

After saying that, we headed towards the energy center. When we were almost at the entrance, Ji Lin'an whispered, "Try to prevent the energy from entering our bodies so we don't lose our memories. Then we can find another opportunity to figure out what's going on."

We nodded silently and entered the energy center. There were 10 tables inside, each with a machine. People were queuing in front of each machine. When it was our turn, we sat down and put our arms into the machine. After 10 seconds, we fell unconscious, and after 20 seconds, we woke up. It was obvious that we forgot everything after waking up. I nervously grabbed Ji Lin'an's arm: "What should we do? It looks like we can't escape."

Ji Lin'an whispered in my ear, "The person who was urging us has left. I'll go see if there are any other exits."

I quickly grabbed Ji Lin'an: "I'll go with you."

Ji Lin'an nodded: "Okay, be careful."

To avoid alerting them, we told An Xin and the others to wait for us where they were. Ji Lin'an and I quietly left the energy center. There was a door opposite the energy center, but when we got there, we found it was tightly closed. There was a card reader on the side, so it seemed we couldn't get in without it. I lowered my eyes in disappointment, when suddenly Ji Lin'an pulled a chip card out of his pocket. I stared at him in surprise: "How do you have a card?"

Ji Lin'an laughed and said, "I just took it from the man in white."

I couldn't help but give Ji Lin'an a thumbs up. Ji Lin'an placed the card on the card reader, and sure enough, the door opened a crack the next second. Ji Lin'an and I glanced behind us and quickly opened the door to go inside. It was pitch black inside, and the floor was made of glass, with a faint light shining through. Looking into the distance, the glass floor stretched out not far ahead. Ji Lin'an and I walked forward cautiously, and at the end, another door appeared. Ji Lin'an swiped the card to open the door.

After opening the door, the scene inside resembled a secret control room. A machine sat on a simple table, and the walls were still made of black glass. Ji Lin'an walked to the machine and pressed the "open" button. The black screen suddenly lit up, and the entire room suddenly turned colorful. We walked to the glass to take a look and saw a dense crowd inside, just like at a World Cup stadium, with people sitting in layers upon layers. At the bottom was a stage, and two people stood facing each other on either side of the stage. The man with his back to us looked particularly familiar.

Ji Lin'an turned to look at me and said, "That figure from behind seems to be Zhu Chen's."

I frowned and looked closely. Sure enough, she looked very similar to Zhu Chen. Except for the clothes she was wearing, her figure and hairstyle were exactly the same as Zhu Chen's. We couldn't hear the sounds inside, but the scene seemed very lively. People on the scene were waving their arms with their mouths wide open. Ji Lin'an looked down at the operating machine, observed for a moment, and then pressed a button. Suddenly, the noise inside the scene resounded throughout the entire room.

The crowd cheered and screamed. The contrast between the two men on the stage was striking. The man facing us stood opposite us with a murderous look on his face, while the man with his back to us had his head drooping and his body stiff. As a whistle blew, the platform beneath the two men slowly began to move. The man with his back to us suddenly turned around and pounded on the cage surrounding him. This time we could see clearly that it was Zhu Chen without a doubt.

Zhu Chen was frantically pounding on the surrounding fences, shouting something, his expression terrified. Even from a distance, the tears in his eyes were clearly visible. I couldn't help but frown. I've known Zhu Chen for so many years, from the apocalypse to the zombie island, and I've never seen him with such an expression, as if he was about to experience something terrifying.

Ji Lin'an and I stared intently at the stage without moving. After the two people on the stage were moved to the center, the fence was slowly opened. After it opened, Zhu Chen fled to the edge of the arena. There were no obstructions around the arena, but Zhu Chen was visibly blocked inside, as if there was an invisible wall.

The audience on stage was extremely excited, and the cheers were deafening. A man's voice came from inside the arena: "The 6th Championship Tournament is about to begin. Betting will close in 1 minute."

A huge countdown appeared above the arena. The man in the arena walked to the center of the arena and reached out to hold onto the air. It seemed that there was an invisible wall between him and Zhu Chen. As the countdown ended, the man rushed to Zhu Chen's side. Zhu Chen had nowhere to retreat or dodge. The man grabbed Zhu Chen's arms with both hands, one hand on the upper arm and the other on the forearm. Zhu Chen desperately slapped the man with his other hand, but the man showed no sign of letting go.

Zhu Chen's struggles excited the man even more. He twisted Zhu Chen's arms with both hands as if wringing a towel. Zhu Chen's face contorted in pain, and he struggled incessantly. The screams from the crowd continued. Suddenly, Zhu Chen turned to the side and pulled the arm that the man was holding in front of her. She kicked the wall behind her with her foot and pushed the man with her whole body until the two of them tripped in the center of the ring.
