Entering the glass disposal room, which resembled a shower room, I saw a pair of footprints on the floor. I stood in the footprints, and Xu Qi looked at Ji Lin'an and said, "Shall we begin?"
There was a hint of worry in Ji Lin'an's eyes as he looked at me. I knew that he couldn't guarantee 100% that he could really send me back to reality, but given the current situation, we had no choice but to take a gamble.
Ji Lin'an nodded to Xu Qi, who took a hard drive out of his pocket and plugged it into the machine. After pressing several buttons, the glass cover suddenly turned into frosted glass, and I couldn't see what was happening outside. Suddenly, I heard a piercing sound, like fingernails scratching a blackboard, and I started to feel dizzy and nauseous again.
A moment later, I felt much lighter. I looked down and found that my feet were gone. Starting from my ankles, my body slowly turned into powder, but I felt no pain or sensation at all. The footprints were like a vacuum cleaner, sucking the powder into them.
I looked down and saw my thighs, my waist, my arms turn to dust, until my eyes also turned to dust before I completely lost consciousness...
I can't see anything, and I don't know where I am. I'm drifting around somewhere like a ghost. I try to open my mouth to speak, but my mouth is like it's glued shut. I try to raise my arm, but I can't move it. I try to open my eyes, but I can't even control my eyeballs. I can't do anything except breathe freely.
I started to panic. Was this what Xu Qi meant by destruction? Destroying our consciousness and trapping us in some space? At this moment, I wanted to cry but couldn't. I couldn't even do something as simple as shedding tears.
I didn't want to accept my fate, so I tried to struggle. My heart was like a wild beast, screaming and agitated. Suddenly, I heard a sound, a rapid beeping sound. The more my emotions fluctuated, the more rapid the beeping sound became.
I heard footsteps and voices. I imagined the scene in my mind where these sounds were coming from: a hospital, yes, a hospital. The sound I just heard was from a vital signs monitor. Suddenly, my eyes were opened, and a blinding light shone into them. My mouth and hands slowly began to regain feeling.
I tried to open my mouth, and although it was difficult, I could still feel my tongue move. I tried to shake my tongue, and a chill swept into my mouth. My cheek was mercilessly pinched open by a hand, exposing my mouth.
A serious, deep voice was heard: "Notify President Bai that his men have woken up."
Mr. Bai? Could he be a family member? I was somewhat delighted and continued to move my tongue around, trying to let the doctor see my movements. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my arm, and a stream of cold liquid was injected into my body. I lost consciousness again.
I don't know how much time passed before I woke up. I really woke up; I could open my eyes. The first thing I saw was a snow-white ceiling and an IV stand. I stiffly turned my head to look around. I heard voices outside the door; it seemed to be the doctor from before. He called out, "Young Master Bai."
If Mr. Bai is my family, then this "Little Mr. Bai" might be my older or younger brother. Curious, I struggled to get up. Although my body was still stiff, I could control it. I lifted the blanket; under it were several tubes. I followed the tubes to their connections. Two were in my genitals, probably catheters, and several thin ones were connected to my chest. An oxygen tube was inserted into my nose. I gave up on getting out of bed, closed my eyes, and listened carefully to the sounds outside the door. I heard a male voice: "Is she awake?"
The doctor replied, "She's awake, but she can't move yet. What should we do next?"
Deal with it? Why do we need to deal with it? I felt a little panicked and leaned closer to the door. Xiao Bai said, "This is the first time I've seen someone who entered the illusion space come out on their own. I need to find out what happened first. Keep her calm. If she wakes up, let her sleep for a few more days. I'll send someone to pick her up after I've figured it out. Keep an eye on her and don't let her run away."
My heart sank instantly. Had I been locked up again? I heard the doctor nodding in agreement. I quickly lay down, covered myself with the blanket, put the IV pole back in its original position, and straightened the blanket. Then I heard the door open. I closed my eyes.
Hearing two footsteps enter one after the other, the hand under the blanket unconsciously clenched. The male doctor said, "Give her another dose of sleeping pills, once every 8 hours, and let her continue to sleep for now."
One of the girls replied, "Okay, Dr. Zou."
After the nurse finished replying, I heard footsteps fading away. After hearing a few noisy sounds, I felt the IV tubing shaking. A moment later, I heard the nurse's footsteps leaving and the door closing. I quickly opened my eyes and looked at my hand receiving the IV. It was an indwelling needle. I immediately pulled out the connector at the front of the indwelling needle, and clear medicine immediately dripped from the IV tubing. I then hung the IV tubing upside down on the IV bottle.
I looked down and examined the tubes inserted into my body. They all had indwelling connection points. I removed them one by one, but when I got to the ECG patch on my chest, I frowned. If I removed it, the vital signs monitor would definitely alarm. I thought for a moment and spotted a bottle of mineral water next to the bed. I pulled the line down to the bed and walked to the vital signs monitor. I unscrewed the bottle, held the water in one hand and unplugged the power cord with the other. Then I quickly poured water into the socket, and the vital signs monitor immediately lost power. I quickly removed the patch from my body.
I cautiously walked towards the door, glanced back at the bed, then went back to the bedside and pulled the blanket over myself, placing the pillow under the blanket. I drew the curtains to just cover my upper body, and as I reached the door, I heard several hurried footsteps and sounds. I opened the door a crack and looked out; there was no one outside.
I opened the door and cautiously peeked out. A nurse was standing at the nurses' station not far away, looking anxiously in another direction. I took the opportunity to run towards the emergency exit, but when I got to the door, I found that it couldn't be opened at all; I needed to swipe a card to enter.
I turned and ran towards the storage room next door. Inside were some cleaning supplies and a row of cabinets. I randomly opened one and found a set of blue cleaning uniforms. I immediately changed into the uniform, put on a hat and mask, and then realized I wasn't wearing shoes. There were no shoes by the bed when I got out of bed, and I knew I'd be exposed if I went out like this. I opened all the other cabinets, but still couldn't find a single pair of shoes…
