After the elevator doors opened, I saw what appeared to be a loading dock. Two men in blue work uniforms were unloading goods from a truck. I carefully observed the surroundings. The roads on both sides looked like internal roads of a hospital. Across the street, there was a road leading to a building with "Medical Research Center" written on it. Suddenly, Zhou Lifang called out to me, "Xiao Li, come with me! What are you standing there for?"
It was only then that I realized Zhou Lifang had already walked to the right and stopped in front of a glass door. There was still a card reader at the door. I hesitated for a moment. Zhou Lifang was looking at me with a frown in the distance. I quickly took two steps to catch up with her. We went through the glass door and walked through a corridor. We saw several benches in the corridor, with two or three people sitting on them. They were holding medical records or test results. It seemed that we had entered the department area.
A man in a blue work uniform walked towards us. I followed Zhou Lifang and took a few steps forward. I clutched my stomach and said, "Auntie, my stomach hurts a little. I think I heard the manager say that they are in the lobby. You go ahead, I'll go to the restroom and come right back."
Zhou Lifang hesitated for a moment and then nodded: "Okay, hurry up, do you have any toilet paper?"
I nodded: "Yes, yes, Auntie, please go ahead."
Zhou Lifang turned and continued walking forward. After she turned the corner, I immediately turned around and quickly followed the man I had just met. His clothes were the same as the man who had just been carrying goods, so he would probably go out now, and I could use his card to get out.
I jogged to catch up with the man. He turned and glanced at me. I casually looked up at him. He opened the door to leave. I pretended to be nonchalant and waited for him to leave before reaching out to block the door and following him out. Standing at the door, I watched him walk back to the truck, glance at the open cargo box, and then turn around and get into the driver's seat.
I quickly and cautiously walked towards the truck bed. After checking that no one was around, I quietly climbed into the truck bed and slowly moved behind a few boxes of goods to hide. I had just seen the two people who were moving the goods only use a trolley to move two boxes of goods. There was another trolley on the truck. If the goods in the truck still needed to be moved, they wouldn't have made two trips. So these goods must not have been delivered here. Then I can hide safely behind the goods for the time being.
A short while later, I heard the delivery man return. The two were discussing what to eat for lunch. I followed their voices to the back of the truck. As the truck bed went dark and the doors were closed, I felt an overwhelming excitement, almost to the point of being breathless.
The truck drove for a long time. I counted silently in my mind, and when I reached 2,400 seconds, the truck stopped. I immediately shrank into a corner and heard the sound of the truck door opening and closing. A moment later, the truck's tailgate was opened. I felt the truck shake twice and heard a bang. A man climbed onto the truck and dragged a box of goods to the door. When he moved the third box, I was extremely nervous. My hands were trembling. They only needed to move one more box before they would find me. I felt a sense of suffocation and closed my eyes tightly, trying to deceive myself and calm down.
After waiting a few seconds without hearing the man return, I listened carefully until I heard the sliding sound of the trolley being pulled. I breathed a sigh of relief and slowly stood up and walked towards the door. Suddenly, I heard the sound of the door closing. I was so frightened that I immediately went back into the carriage and peered outside through the gap between the two boxes.
I saw the road outside the door, lined with plane trees on both sides. There were no shops or tall buildings. Next to the plane trees was a sidewalk, and next to the sidewalk was a green belt. After waiting for a while and not seeing the driver, I cautiously walked to the door again. I looked around and saw no one. I peeked out in the direction of the driver's seat, but I didn't see anyone there either. The driver's door was directly opposite another door. The group must have entered the low building in front of me through that door.
This doesn't look like the outdoors; it looks more like an industrial park. I can vaguely see a logo in the distance that says "Incubation Park." This must be some kind of startup park. I jumped out of the car and ran toward the logo. No matter where this is, I have to get out of the car. If I stay in the car any longer, I'll be exposed at their next destination.
After walking for a while, I saw a gate not far away, guarded by a security booth. I didn't dare to go out directly, so I wandered around the park. There were a few people walking on the road in the park, and I was afraid of being exposed, so I kept my head down and pretended to be a passerby.
Before I knew it, I had arrived at an office building. Looking inside, I saw a lobby with a luxurious reception desk. Two pretty receptionists were standing at the front desk. I looked down at my clothes and realized that I would probably be stopped if I went in dressed like that. I walked around the outside of the building to the back and found an employee entrance. Since no one was around, I went inside.
I saw the emergency exit next to the elevator leading to the building. I jogged a few steps and went up two floors. After making sure no one was around, I slowly sat down on the stairs, relaxed, and leaned against the wall. I had finally escaped.
After resting for a while, I carefully recalled the events of the past two days. At first, when I woke up in the space capsule, I thought we had woken up from a dream, but after Xu Qi "destroyed" me, I woke up again in the ward. This series of events felt like entering a dream within a dream, which made me wonder if my current location was really real.
Suddenly, I reached behind my ear and touched it. The moment I touched it, my back went cold. It felt the same as the tracker I had found in the illusion. If it really was a tracker, then my whereabouts would be exposed. My immediate priority was to remove it again.
