Chapter 144 The Truth Tomorrow

Ji Kang followed Bai Cheng from the first row of capsules to the last row. During this time, Ji Kang deliberately slowed down his pace, but the scene still passed too quickly and he didn't see any useful information.

At the same time, while I was sitting in the car, I suddenly saw four or five men in uniforms come out of the elevator and walk quickly toward Ji Kang's car.

Several men circled Ji Kang's car. I immediately turned on a pre-recorded sound, in which I covered my mouth and made a cry for help. After hearing it, the men pressed their heads close to the trunk window and looked inside carefully. I had also made a dummy out of clothes and a pillow and placed it in the trunk beforehand.

The man picked up the walkie-talkie on his chest with satisfaction: "Mr. Bai, the person has been found."

Several men remained by the car. I looked at the camera and saw Bai Cheng walk to the last row of capsules, reach one first, and turn to Ji Kang: "Your brother is right here."

Bai Cheng smiled strangely, and I said into my earpiece, "Be careful, Bai Cheng has already sent people to your car."

I followed Ji Kang's gaze to the front of the space capsule. Ji Kang looked down into the capsule and saw that it was empty! Ji Kang took two steps toward Bai Cheng, forcing Bai Cheng to take a step back, and said angrily, "Where is my brother!"

Bai Cheng smirked: "Your brother is gone, and you still dare to make a deal with me with your IQ?"

After Bai Cheng finished speaking, he turned his head to the side and said, "Let's do it."

I anticipated that Bai Cheng would not accept Ji Kang's deal with him and would definitely come to the car to grab me. So before entering the parking lot, I hid under the seat. The car that Mr. Ji arranged to come in had already been parked in a place out of the surveillance camera's view before we arrived. When Ji Kang arrived at the parking lot, he drove directly to the vicinity of the car arranged by Mr. Ji. Only by avoiding the cameras could I safely get out of the car and move away.

I just didn't expect Bai Cheng to say that Ji An was gone. Was Ji An dead? Or missing? Bai Cheng wouldn't really go that far and kill someone to cover it up, would he?

The man next to me said, "Ms. Su, do you need us to take care of those people on the bullet train?"

I thought for a moment and shook my head: "No rush, wait a bit."

I immediately said into the earpiece, "Tell Bai Cheng that I'm not in the car. If you want me, you have to tell me Ji An's whereabouts."

Ji Kang repeated what I said. Bai Cheng's expression changed and he said a few words into the earpiece. The man standing in front of Ji Kang's car took out a compass-like object from his clothes and slid it around the trunk window. After tapping the window lightly, a hole appeared in the trunk's windshield. The man peeked in, frowned, and waved his hand in to confirm that there was no one in the trunk.

He cautiously spoke into the headset, "Mr. Bai, we've fallen for their trap. They put a dummy in the trunk. The real target isn't in the car."

Bai Cheng frowned, a fierce look appearing between his brows as he glared at Ji Kang. After a moment, Bai Cheng softened his expression: "You dare to tease me? Do you think you can get out of here by yourself if you don't hand him over?"

I couldn't see Ji Kang's face, but I heard him sneer: "What? You think you can kill me?"

Bai Cheng laughed, "Killing me would dirty my hands. I can make you wish you were dead."

Ji Kang laughed loudly: "I really don't know what it means to be worse than dead. You want to torture me? Whip me? Electrocute me? Do you think you're in a spy movie?"

Bai Cheng's smile gradually faded: "I can spare your life if you tell me Su Yi's whereabouts, otherwise you can wait and see what it means to truly wish you were dead."

Ji Kang said, "Tell me where my brother is first, otherwise you can kill me and I will not tell you where he is, and I will immediately make public what you asked me to do."

Bai Cheng smirked: "If that's how you put it, then I really can't let you go. I'll give you one last chance. Where is Su Yi?"

Ji Kang laughed and said, "Here's some advice for you: when you threaten someone, make it clear how terrifying your threat really is. Otherwise, I think you're just like a primary school student saying 'Wait for me after school,' which is as innocuous as that threat."

Bai Cheng's lips twitched: "It's fine to tell you, I'll find Su Yi myself, but you definitely won't be leaving today."

Ji Kang raised both hands to his chest and opened his palms: "Really? I'm so scared, what are you going to do to me?"

Bai Cheng took a breath, composed himself, and smiled, "See those people lying in these space capsules? They're all our playthings. Let me tell you, your brother is one of our playthings too. We send his consciousness into a simulated life program that we've designed. We have someone write a life script for him so he can have a wonderful life."

Ji Kang laughed and said, "Then thank you on behalf of my brother. This is wonderful. You wouldn't be thinking of sending me in to write a happy life for me, would you? I would be more than happy to do that."

Bai Cheng laughed and said, "You're so naive. What we show you is just what we want you to see. A happy life? Heh, if it really were a happy life, do you think my buyers would pay for it? Do you think they would want to pay to see others living a happy life? You're too naive."

We'll send people's consciousness into different pre-designed natural disasters, making them cycle through survival and self-destruction. The more they suffer, the happier my buyers are. Your brother is the same; he's died many times, but not peacefully each time. Sometimes he lost limbs, his internal organs were ripped out. And people don't die that quickly; they suffer excruciating torment before slowly passing away.

As Bai Cheng spoke, I kept comforting Ji Kang through the earpiece: "Ji Kang, don't get excited. He's trying to provoke you. The calmer you are, the more Bai Cheng will say."
