Chapter 28 Is G City Safe?

Kaka smiled gratefully and said, "Thank you, Brother Ji and Sister Su."

Ji Lin'an nodded: "I think it's still early. We haven't finished today's kill mission yet, and we don't have many supplies left. Let's find a supermarket to stock up on some supplies and finish the kill mission while we're at it."

The three of us nodded. Ji Lin'an conjured a protective suit from the treasure chest for Kaka. Thousand-Mile Eye used its skill to check nearby and found no suitable supermarket. Our villa was in a remote location, so we could only use the Anywhere Door to teleport to a location closer to the city. We found a medium-sized supermarket with few zombies and teleported there. Ji Lin'an, Thousand-Mile Eye, and I fired and killed the zombies to complete the mission. Only Kaka was still struggling to control the sharp wooden stick, shooting at the surrounding zombies. Her hit rate was high, but her kill rate was 0. She was hitting either the zombie's arm or thigh. Thousand-Mile Eye wanted to help, but Ji Lin'an stopped her, saying, "Let her do it herself. She needs to practice controlling it."

Qianliyan stopped, and the three of us patiently stood beside Kaka, only killing the zombies that were closest to us. Seeing that the wooden sticks were almost used up, I said, "Kaka, try to pull the wooden sticks out of the zombies and attack them a second time."

After I finished speaking, Kaka tried to pull the wooden stick stuck in the zombie's body. After shooting a few times, he successfully killed two zombies. Kaka smiled exhaustedly and said, "I finally killed the zombies myself."

After completing the mission, we returned to the villa. Kaka immediately sat down on the sofa. I took out a few bottles of water from my spatial storage and handed them to everyone. After sitting down, I asked, "Kaka, how did you complete the kill mission after Sister Ning left?"

Kaka frowned: "Sister Ning built a fence to keep the zombies out. After she left, I relied on making noise to lure the zombies to the fence for each kill mission, and then used a wooden stick to kill them at close range. Today is the first time I've killed a zombie from such a distance by myself."

I asked with some doubt, "But Sister Ning's skill is fire. Won't the zombies die immediately after being burned by fire? They will mainly rely on your skills to attack."

Kaka said with some surprise, "No, zombies are very afraid of fire. They die in less than ten seconds after being attacked by fire. Didn't you know that, sisters?"

I looked at Ji Lin and An Qianliyan, and after we looked at each other, we both shook our heads: "I don't know. Your sister Ning's skills are already very powerful, so why does she need you to cooperate in killing her?"

Kaka said seriously, "Sister Ning's fire can make any object spontaneously combust, but it can't make zombies spontaneously combust, so it needs to be combined with my wood to attack the zombies."

I nodded, and after thinking about it for a moment, Ji Lin'an asked, "Since almost all zombies die from fire attacks, and your attack wasn't fatal, how did you complete your mission?"

Kaka tilted his head and thought for a moment: "Usually, when I shoot the first shot, Sister Ning will let me pause for a while, and when I shoot the second shot, I can kill the zombie. It's probably when the zombie is almost dead that I can finish it off with the last shot and the system will count it as my attack."

Qianliyan and I nodded seriously. After checking the time, we realized it was getting late. Ji Lin'an suggested we rest for the day. Qianliyan helped Kaka prepare the bath water, and Ji Lin'an and I went back to our room.

The next morning, Ji Lin'an and I were woken up by a phone call. It was a familiar but unfamiliar number. I looked at Ji Lin'an sleepily and said, "It's Wu Feng calling."

Ji Lin'an sat up, rubbed his eyes, and nodded to me, indicating that I should answer the phone. I sat up, picked up the phone, and cautiously said, "Hello."

The other end remained silent, just like last time. I spoke first: "Is that you, Wufeng?"

Wu Feng nodded, and I instantly breathed a sigh of relief: "It's good that it's you. I was worried something had happened to you when I couldn't reach you earlier."

Wu Feng coldly replied, "I'm fine. What do you mean by leaving that message?"

I looked at Ji Lin'an, who took the phone: "Hello, I'm her partner. We've observed some things about G City and think there's something wrong there. We wanted to ask what you meant yesterday when you said not to go to the G City shelter?"

Wufeng was silent for a moment: "It doesn't mean anything."

I frowned and leaned closer to the phone's microphone: "Do you know something? We have two girls here who were originally planning to go to G City, but we think the shelter in G City might be part of a conspiracy, so can you reveal some information you know?"

Ji Lin'an turned on the speakerphone, and Wu Feng was silent for a while before saying, "I'm not really sure either, it's just a gut feeling."

Ji Lin'an asked, "Did something happen that gave you this intuition?"

Wufeng hummed in agreement but didn't reply. I said, "I've also noticed some strange things. Yesterday, I clearly saw that the IP address of the content creator I follow was in T City when she updated her video, but ten minutes later she said she was in a shelter in G City. And today, the IP address of the video she posted has also changed to G City. Yesterday, she strongly invited us to come over, which I found very strange, but the video I saw in T City has been deleted."

After a moment of silence, Wufeng finally spoke: "My situation is similar to yours. My partner was originally with me in Z City. Three days ago, we met a lucky guy who claimed to know of a shelter in G City and wanted us to go with him. Since we felt relatively safe here, we refused him, and he set off on his own. However, my partner mysteriously disappeared the next day. Until yesterday, when I had internet access, my partner made a video call to me. The background was the so-called G City resort shelter. He kept urging me to go there. Before I could learn more, the internet connection dropped. When I called back after getting a signal, no one answered. I had some doubts. My partner can't drive, and Z City is thousands of kilometers away from G City. There are no high-speed trains or planes now. In just two days, he suddenly appeared at the G City shelter. That's why I said that when I called you. I think this G City is like a pyramid scheme; once you're in, it's hard to get out."
