Back in reality, Ji Lin'an and I both fell silent. Perhaps we hadn't recovered from the futuristic vision. The first two times I died, I didn't feel anything because I died so quickly, but this time, struggling with the zombie for a while made my heart race, causing a slight spasm in my stomach. I looked at Ji Lin'an, who was equally stunned. He hadn't managed to kill the zombie, but he had killed someone, and he wasn't any worse off than me. I got up, poured Ji Lin'an a glass of water, patted his shoulder, and sat down beside him: "It's alright now. It was all a virtual scene, not real. Have some water."
Ji Lin'an took the cup and drank it all in one gulp. He looked up at me blankly without saying a word. After a long while, he finally said, "Thank you."
I waved my hand and said, "Hey, it's okay. I'm not very good at comforting people."
Ji Lin'an looked at me and said, "I mean thank you for rushing out to save me, and thank you for not locking me out to protect yourself."
When it was my turn to speak, I didn't really think much about it; it all seemed to be done subconsciously.
I waved my hand again: "It's nothing, you saved me too."
Ji Lin'an didn't speak, but patted the chair next to him, gesturing for me to sit down. After I sat down, Ji Lin'an thought for a moment and said, "You were right before. When humans encounter non-natural disasters, the most terrifying thing is not the disaster itself, but the human heart. To protect themselves, they will stop at nothing to kill their own kind for a short period of survival. I've seen that middle-aged man before. He lives in one of the buildings in front. He's always been arrogant and domineering. I heard that the guy in the security guard uniform is his distant nephew, and the other one is his son. The fact that they survived for a month suggests that they went from house to house killing and robbing. They would eat one house and then move on to another. Our defenses here are still not enough. They can keep out zombies but not people. Although we drove them away, the gunshots can attract zombies, so we still can't use them."
I stroked my chin: "I see silencers in the game, don't you have any in your weapon inventory?"
Ji Lin'an shook his head: "No, I didn't see any silencers available for exchange in the Future Mall either."
I said, "Why don't you ask about minor illnesses?"
Ji Lin'an nodded: "It's just a minor illness. Where can I get a silencer?"
"Master, master, the silencer can be obtained from the parts store."
Ji Lin'an pressed further, "Where is the parts warehouse?"
"The accessory storage is a hidden space within the weapon space. It will be unlocked when you and your partner reach 100 activity points. You can go to your friends list to see how to obtain activity points."
Ji Lin'an and I simultaneously opened the friend taskbar and saw the button to activate friend activity points. After clicking it, it showed that it was already activated.
Task 1: Match with your partner - 10 activity points (claimable)
Task 2: Enter the Partner Space - 20 Activity Points (Claimable)
Task 3: Complete a future change with your partner - 20 Activity Points (Claimable)
Task 4: Team up with friends to kill zombies (1/1) - 50 Activity Points (Claimable)
The system showed that all tasks were completed and the reward was available, but we hadn't killed any zombies in reality. Did killing them in the future scene count? I opened the daily tasks and it showed that I had killed 4 zombies in total. I only needed 6 more to claim the reward. I had already earned 520 points, which was a great number. I proudly showed my achievement to Ji Lin'an, but when I turned around, I found that Ji Lin'an was looking at me with his head tilted to the side. I wondered how long he had been looking at me like that, and I blushed a little.
Ji Lin'an's zombie-killing mission wasn't completed, but mine was. I received 100 activity points and successfully activated the accessory storage in my mobile space. Ji Lin'an and I went inside to check it out. My accessory storage was full of storage boxes and shelves, as well as a ladder that could extend over 10 meters. Calling it a ladder is an understatement; it's more like a mobile elevator. The ladder had railings around it and could accommodate at least four or five people. I placed the mobile ladder in the mobile space, and Ji Lin'an and I stood on it together. When the ladder reached its maximum height, I raised my hands to touch the top of my head. There were no transparent walls. I thought we could go even higher, but Ji Lin'an touched it, and his arms weren't even fully extended. Sorry, I'm just too short. The mobile space was about 12 meters high, equivalent to a 4-story building. That gives us a total area of 250 square meters. If we stacked everything up for storage, it would be quite spacious.
Ji Lin'an and I briefly planned the layout of the mobile space to store more supplies before going back to our rooms to sleep, intending to stock up on more supplies the next day.
