Disappointed? Why would she feel disappointed? Could it be that the person who hurt her made her feel disappointed? Then that person can only be Kaka. I asked, somewhat shocked, "Do you remember what caused her wounds?"
Jiang Kexin nodded: "I didn't see any weapons, but every wound was round and very neat."
The wound was a perfectly round shape. What else but Kaka's stick could create such a neat, round wound? I was shocked. Kaka looked so delicate and petite; how could she be so vicious? She lied to us, saying her partner abandoned her to create a victim image and elicit our sympathy. But then Kaka said her partner left a message saying Jiang Kexin and the others killed her. Why was that? The more I thought about it, the less I understood.
I asked, "Did she say anything to you before she died?"
Jiang Kexin looked at me suspiciously: "You seem to care a lot about this woman. Do you know her?"
I shook my head: "I don't know her, but there are some things that might involve her, so I need to find out the details."
Jiang Kexin nodded and said, "She said that if we ever encounter her partner, a little girl who controls wood, we must be careful. If she tries to hurt us, we should find an opportunity to kill her."
My mind was a bit foggy, and I was completely confused by what I was hearing. Suddenly, Jiang Kexin asked, "Are you still in contact with Zhu Chen? Is he still alive?"
When suddenly asked the question, I hesitated for a moment whether to tell Jiang Kexin the truth, but after thinking about it, I thought it wouldn't hurt to tell her: "Yes, I have encountered it. Zhu Chen became the lucky one. He has the ability to teleport. He should still be alive and may still be thinking about how to kill us."
Jiang Kexin's eyes held a strange look: "How did he become a lucky one too?"
Jiang Kexin didn't seem surprised, which made me suspect that she knew Zhu Chen had become the lucky one and that he had contacted us, which was why she suddenly asked me the question. Feeling uneasy, I stood up and said to Jiang Kexin, "You should get some rest. I'm a little tired today, so we'll head back first."
After saying that, I stood up, glanced at the sleeping baby, and felt a sense of familiarity in his eyes. I didn't want to have any more contact with Jiang Kexin, so I walked straight to the door without waiting for her to stop me. I said goodbye to Chen Hu and then took Zhu Chen back with me.
Back at the villa, Qianliyan and Kaka were playing mobile games in the living room. I remembered what Jiang Kexin had said and felt a surge of irritation. I gave them a perfunctory greeting and went back to my room. Ji Lin'an followed me in after explaining a few words. I lay on the bed, my mind filled with thoughts. Ji Lin'an sat down beside me, looking at me with some curiosity. I couldn't find a way to start, so I rubbed my hair in frustration. Ji Lin'an lay down next to me and gently stroked my forehead: "It seems like things are complicated?"
I nodded to Ji Lin'an, feeling wronged: "To put it simply, Zhu Chen is worse than we imagined, and also..."
I hesitated, then Ji Lin'an chuckled, "About Kaka?"
I immediately covered Ji Lin'an's mouth warily, glanced at the door, and whispered, "Jiang Kexin admitted that they killed Sister Ning, but it wasn't their intention. Sister Ning asked them to kill her because she was injured and knew she might not survive. She offered to do so to thank Jiang Kexin and the others for taking her in. We learned from Jiang Kexin and the others that Sister Ning's injury seemed to be caused by Kaka's wooden weapon."
Ji Lin'an frowned: "Kaka seems to have said that Sister Ning abandoned her."
I nodded repeatedly: "Yes, that's why I feel so upset. Kaka seems so innocent and naive, and Sister Ning, whom she talks about, is also a really good person. I can't tell who's telling the truth."
Ji Lin'an said, "It's not hard to tell. Jiang Kexin has no reason to lie to us about Sister Ning's injuries. What we can confirm is that Sister Ning's injuries were probably caused by Kaka. As for why Kaka lied, he probably wanted to create a sympathetic persona. And look, Qianliyan has already taken the bait."
I nodded: "Yes, that was my initial guess too. Although Jiang Kexin is not a kind person, I trust Sister Ning, whom Jiang Kexin mentioned. She never revealed to Jiang Kexin who hurt her until her death, which is enough to prove that Sister Ning was kind-hearted. She just told Jiang Kexin before she died that if Kaka did anything bad to them, she should kill her."
Ji Lin'an sat up in bed, rubbing his temples with one hand: "If Kaka is bad, then we've essentially let a wolf into the house."
I gave him a look of disgust: "Yeah, the key thing is that Clairvoyant acts like he's completely obedient to Kaka."
Ji Lin'an shook his head: "Let's ignore him for now and observe. As long as Kaka doesn't do anything that harms our interests, we can still keep her here for the time being. At least Qianliyan will be more obedient."
I nodded, and Ji Lin'an turned to ask, "What about Zhu Chen? What do you mean by saying Zhu Chen is worse than we thought?"
I sighed: "Do you still remember Brother Tiger?"
Ji Lin'an frowned and thought for a few seconds: "Is it one of the people who set the villa on fire?"
I nodded: "Yes, Chen Hu is Brother Hu."
Ji Lin'an frowned: "Now that you mention it, I do recall some of the surveillance footage. How did they get together? Isn't Jiang Kexin Zhu Chen's wife? And who is the child?"
Ji Lin'an looked at me with a questioning expression. I nodded and said, "Jiang Kexin said that the child was Chen Hu's. Zhu Chen offered Jiang Kexin to Chen Hu to save his life. Jiang Kexin's child does look like a premature baby. It is estimated to be about seven or eight months old."
Ji Lin'an asked, "When we met Zhu Chen, Zhu Chen also said that Chen Hu and his men had driven him out."
