Chapter 35 Discovering the Secret

Kaka smiled and said, "Thank you, Sister Su."

I didn't reply and led everyone and the building materials into the space. Kaka looked around as soon as she entered, and Wufeng was even more excited as he looked around. I walked up to Kaka and pointed to the bed I had chosen for her: "Kaka, this is your bed and mattress. Do you think it's suitable? If not, you can go out and choose another one."

Kaka walked in the direction I pointed, touched the bed and mattress, and smiled at me, saying, "Sister chose the right one, I think it's just right."

I smiled in response and said, "As long as it's suitable."

After lingering for a while, I felt that we were all still in the space. Although there were no lucky ones nearby, for safety's sake, I still led everyone out of the space and drove back to the shelter.

Since it was still early, Ji Lin'an and Wu Feng searched online for some videos on installing partitioned rooms and followed suit, assembling the partitions one by one. The warehouse was about six or seven meters high, but the highest shelf we found was only three meters. After enclosing the rooms, we attached the remaining wooden boards to the top to form a roof.

After marking out the three rooms, we all looked at the result with satisfaction and nodded. Only I looked at it and became more and more puzzled. After a moment, I said helplessly, "Are all five of us like idiots? Didn't we notice that our rooms don't have windows or doors?"

As soon as I finished speaking, everyone's faces fell. After exchanging bewildered glances, they suddenly burst into laughter. Qianliyan laughed so hard he clutched his stomach: "All that hard work we put on for nothing!"

Ji Lin'an also covered her face with her hands: "I didn't expect we would make such a low-level mistake."

I stepped forward and patted Ji Lin'an on the shoulder: "Even our top students make mistakes sometimes. It seems that living in the apocalypse for too long has rusted everyone's brains."

Wufeng was laughing so hard he could barely breathe: "You can't entirely blame us. The videos we searched for about partition renovations didn't mention reserving space for windows and doors."

I laughed along with everyone, but out of the corner of my eye I couldn't help glancing at Kaka. Her lips were slightly upturned, and she seemed to be smiling too, but from my perspective, only one corner of her mouth was upturned. It didn't look like a happy smile; it looked more like a mocking smile. Perhaps sensing that someone was looking at her, she immediately covered her mouth and laughed along with everyone else.

It was already dark, so we temporarily abandoned the installation. To celebrate our new life, Ji Lin'an used his skills to create a feast, and Wu Feng sacrificed one of his sheep. We sat around the outdoor kitchen, roasting the sheep over a fire, drinking ice-cold beer, and eating the crayfish barbecue that Ji Lin'an had created.

The wind was quite strong that night, and it felt a little chilly on my skin. Seeing this, Ji Lin'an went inside and brought me a coat. Qianliyan saw Ji Lin'an put the coat on me and immediately turned to Kaka and asked, "Are you cold, Kaka? I'll go in and get you a coat too."

Thousand-Mile Eyes tried to get up, but Kaka grabbed him and said, "It's okay, I'm not cold."

Qianliyan looked at me with a strange smile: "Sister Su, look, Kaka isn't cold at all, but you are. You have to admit you're getting old, hahahahahaha."

I smiled at Qianliyan, but Daoren's eyes couldn't hide his true feelings. Kaka reached out and pulled Qianliyan aside, then smiled at me and said, "Sister Su, don't listen to his nonsense. I've always been resistant to the cold. I don't even wear a down jacket in the dead of winter. I got beaten up a lot for that when I was little."

Qianliyan pouted at me and said, "That means Sister Su is weak. Lao Ji and the others need to be more moderate and take care of their health."

I didn't reply. Ji Lin'an looked at Qianliyan and smiled, "After just two drinks, you're already provoking your Sister Su. Aren't you afraid that when she sobers up tomorrow, she'll chase you down with a knife?"

Qianliyan wanted to retort, but seeing my piercing gaze, he immediately softened and said with a smile, "Sister Su, I was just joking. Don't take it seriously. Our Sister Su is just tired from running around with us all the time."

I didn't argue with Qianliyan; I've always thought his naiveté was genuine.

After a few rounds of drinks, Wufeng and Qianliyan drank the most. The two of them got more and more into it and started taking turns drinking against each other, trying to see who could drink more. In the end, they both passed out. Since we didn't have a room for the time being, we had to move out our beds and mattresses and make do with them for the night.

I didn't drink much. I woke up early the next morning and saw Qianliyan and Wufeng still snoring. The whole shelter was filled with a strong smell of alcohol and the roasted lamb that we hadn't finished eating last night. Ji Lin'an was still asleep. I quietly got up to go to the bathroom. When I passed Kaka's bed, I found that Kaka was not in bed. I looked around and saw that Kaka was not in the shelter. I quietly walked towards the outside.

Stepping outside, all I could see were cows and sheep, and then a lush green meadow. I went to the kitchen and then to the bathroom, but still couldn't find Kaka. This place is so small; besides the shelter and the bathroom, it's just grassland. I wonder where Kaka would go so early in the morning.

After washing up in the bathroom, I returned to the shelter, but Kaka still hadn't come back. I felt a strange sense of unease. I went to the bed and gently shook Ji Lin'an awake. Ji Lin'an looked at me sleepily and asked, "What…?"

Before Ji Lin'an could speak, I covered his mouth. Perhaps he had just woken up and hadn't realized that we didn't have a room. His voice echoed all around. I pulled Ji Lin'an and walked outside. Ji Lin'an followed me unsteadily.

I looked around and whispered, "Kaka is gone. It's only 7 o'clock."

Ji Lin'an rubbed his eyes: "You went to the bathroom, right?"

I shook my head: "I went to check, but I didn't see Kaka along the way. It's been more than half an hour since I got up, and I haven't seen any trace of Kaka."
