Chapter 59 Barbecue

For the next two days, besides eating and sleeping, we went to the boxing room to practice our stances. Every day we would stand there and mimic the movements of punching. On the third day, when I was about to go to class, Ji Lin'an noticed that I was looking a bit lazy and asked me, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

I pouted and said, "No, it's just a bit boring. I might just be standing there again today."

Ji Lin'an gently tucked the hair from my forehead behind my ear: "Standing is the most basic movement in learning boxing. If you can't stand steadily, your punches won't be steady. Also, Wei Bin wants to test our patience. He's afraid that we'll run away after a few days like the previous students. Otherwise, he'll waste his time and effort teaching us. You like Wei Bin, don't you? If you don't learn, you won't see him again."

I nodded in sudden realization: "So that's how it is."

Ji Lin'an suddenly leaned closer: "You really like Wei Bin?"

I instantly realized what he had said at the end: "No, no, it's just simple admiration, I don't like him."

Ji Lin'an then sat up straight, and I continued to ask, "How do you know so much?"

Ji Lin'an smiled and said, "From Baidu."

I smiled helplessly, got up to change my clothes, and headed to the activity center. Qianliyan and Wufeng were unusually enthusiastic every day. When we arrived, Wei Bin hadn't arrived yet. I checked the time and it was almost 2 PM, so we sat on the floor and chatted for a while.

Fifteen minutes passed and Wei Bin still hadn't arrived. Just as Qianliyan was about to call Xu Qi to ask if he had Wei Bin's contact information, Wei Bin walked in unhurriedly. He seemed a little surprised when he saw us: "Oh, you guys are still here."

I was a little confused: "Coach Wei, why do you ask that?"

Wei Bin smiled and put his backpack on the locker: "I thought you guys wouldn't be able to stick it out and would stop coming."

I didn't reply, feeling a little guilty, since that was really what I had just thought.

After putting his things down, Wei Bin walked up to us and said, "Today we'll learn boxing footwork..."

And so Wei Bin started teaching us the practical stuff in boxing, and we even exchanged contact information. We took classes for more than ten days in a row, and Wei Bin gradually integrated into our group. Besides taking classes, we would also eat together.

Wei Bin was among the first survivors to arrive in G City. He wasn't among the first to clear the land, but rather among the first to arrive when the shelter officially began operating. When he arrived, there were only two people in the shelter. He was already in G City, so he moved in quickly when his contact found him.

Wei Bin's original partner left with another group of people. Wei Bin didn't like being with others, so he chose to stay alone in G City. Fortunately, his partner survived, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to find a lucky match. Wei Bin's skill is energy, which is similar to the relationship between Popeye and Spinach. He can temporarily gain a lot of stamina and strength, and can kill a zombie with one punch.

Wei Bin suggested that we run with him every morning. Although I was reluctant, I couldn't resist Ji Lin'an's persistent pleading and agreed. After running for a month and practicing boxing for a month, we have already made some progress. My arms and legs have become noticeably thicker. Yes, you heard right. With such high-intensity training, I not only didn't lose weight, but I also went from being chubby to muscular, from a little fat girl to a strong girl. I also have the most basic self-defense skills.

That day, Wei Bin suggested taking a day off. He brought a lot of meat and vegetables from the kitchen, as well as barbecue seasoning, wanting to take us to his secret base for a barbecue, which we were happy to do. Wei Bin's secret base was near where we had our first secret chat, and you had to go through a small forest to get there. You could see that there used to be a passage, but because it hadn't been maintained for a long time, the passage was blocked by weeds and branches.

We followed Wei Bin, who led the way. He forcefully pried open the branches blocking our way so we could go in one by one, and then he followed us in. When I turned around, the passageway had returned to its original state of dense branches. No wonder no one had discovered this place.

Further in, there was a small pavilion. It wasn't big, but it was just right for the few of us to sit inside. Wei Bin placed the marinated meat on the stone table, then suddenly realized, "I forgot to ask the kitchen for charcoal..."

We all paused for a second, then burst into laughter. I said, "You forgot to ask for a grill."

Wei Bin was a little embarrassed: "Haha, yes, there's also a grill. To be honest, this is my first time having an outdoor barbecue. Before, I had to control my diet and train every day. The aunt in the kitchen helped me marinate the meat. I only thought about the meat and charcoal, I didn't think about anything else."

Ji Lin'an smiled and patted Wei Bin: "It's okay, we have it."

After saying that, she conjured a large baking pan from her treasure chest and turned to me, saying, "Su Su, the power bank in your space should still have power. We can use the electric baking pan directly, so we don't need to start a fire."

I nodded and took out a power bank from my storage space. After plugging in the grill pan, I could feel the heat in no time. Wu Feng quickly placed the meat on the grill pan: "I'll grill it for you. I'm the best at grilling meat."

We were chatting and laughing, enjoying our food and drinks, and even made quite a few beers. Suddenly, a light rain started to fall. Qianliyan, who was quite tipsy, ran straight into the rain: "Wow, it's so cool and refreshing! You guys should come too!"

Qianliyan waved to us, and I shook my head. Unexpectedly, Wei Bin was the first to rush out. He was also drunk and followed Qianliyan and the other man in the rain, making a ruckus. Wufeng turned his head and gave Ji Lin'an a look. Ji Lin'an understood and the two of them rushed into the rain as well. After everyone was soaked, Qianliyan saw me sitting in the pavilion, rushed over and pulled me into the rain. Just like that, we became five drowned rats.

The rain got heavier and heavier, eventually turning into a downpour. We hurried back to the pavilion, but even the pavilion couldn't keep out the rain. The leftover barbecue on the table was completely soaked. I quickly put the grill and power bank into the storage space. We squeezed into the very center of the pavilion, but we still couldn't escape the pelting rain. With gusts of wind, I shivered from the cold: "I can't take it anymore, I'm too cold, let's go back."

Wei Bin said, "How are we going to get back in such heavy rain?"

I pulled my phone out of my bag, my hand trembling: "Hold on tight to me!"

After saying that, I used the Anywhere Door to return to our room. Wei Bin stood there, stunned: "What's going on?"

Before I could explain, I grabbed a set of clothes and rushed to the bathroom to change. When I came out of the bathroom, everyone except Ji Lin'an had gone back to their rooms to change. Ji Lin'an had also changed. We lay down on the bed, and I still felt a little chilly. Just then, my phone rang. Qianliyan added us to a group chat and sent a message: "Are you all okay? Want to have some more drinks? Come to our room."

I turned to Ji Lin'an and asked, "Do you want to go?"

Ji Lin'an looked at me and said, "I'm fine with anything, it's up to you. But I'm worried you'll catch a cold, so I'd better not go and rest."

I laughed and said, "I'm fine, but I am a little dizzy. Go and play with them."

Ji Lin'an shook his head: "It's okay, I'll stay with you."

After refusing the offer from Qianliyan, I saw Wei Bin agree to go to the kitchen to get the wine. Feeling a bit drowsy, I closed the door and fell asleep.
