Chapter 6 Changing the Plan

When I woke up again, it was already evening. Before I even went downstairs, I could smell the aroma of food. I jogged to the dining room, where three dishes were already laid out on the table. When Ji Lin'an saw me come down, he turned to look at me and then went back to cooking: "Have some water to whet your appetite. There's also a soup that will be ready soon, so we can eat right away."

I obediently poured myself a glass of water, then went into the kitchen to get a bowl and chopsticks, filled two bowls with rice, and sat down to wait for Ji Lin'an. As soon as the soup was ready, Ji Lin'an brought it over. I felt a little guilty and didn't dare to look at Ji Lin'an, so I kept eating with my head down. Ji Lin'an seemed to sense that something was wrong with me, so he went into the kitchen and brought out two more bowls, filling one bowl with soup for me: "Have some soup, it'll help you recover. I simmered it for three hours."

I obediently took the bowl again, scooped up a spoonful, and drank it, but suddenly it was so hot that I spat out the soup. I stuck out my tongue and panted like a little dog. When Ji Lin'an saw this, he immediately ran to get me some water and handed it to me. My tongue didn't hurt so much after I put in a mouthful of cold water. I was so stupid that I didn't dare to look up at Ji Lin'an. My face and neck were burning hot.

Ji Lin'an frowned: "Let me serve you another bowl of soup."

I shook my head: "No, no need, this bowl is fine, it's a waste to throw it away."

Seeing that I insisted, Ji Lin'an picked up my bowl of soup and scooped it up with a spoon, blowing on it for a few minutes before bringing it to me: "Try the temperature, it shouldn't be so hot anymore."

I took the soup and drank it again. Perhaps my tongue was burned, because although the soup was warm, it made my tongue feel numb and painful. I endured the pain and finished the soup.

Ji Lin'an looked up at me: "Are you still thinking about the things in the future? You seem to be in a bad mood."

I hesitated, unsure how to answer him. My gaze kept darting away as I looked at him. "It's alright, I'll be fine in a couple of days. Maybe it's just that the apocalypse is coming soon and I'm a little nervous."

Ji Lin'an looked at me seriously and said, "You must tell me what's on your mind. Don't keep it to yourself. We are classmates, friends, and partners. We will fight side by side in the future. I hope we can overcome more difficulties together. But if you keep everything to yourself and don't communicate with me, I may not be able to guess what's going on. If I can't guess, I may not be able to help you better."

Looking into Ji Lin'an's sincere eyes, I felt a slight softening in my heart. It wasn't intentional, but I couldn't resist Ji Lin'an's concern and concern, and my eyes welled up with tears. It was like when I was a child, bullied at school but holding back a single tear, only to break down the moment I saw my parents. "I...I feel so useless, always a burden. In the future scenes, we both died because of me. If I had been smarter, more capable, we wouldn't have been kidnapped, and we wouldn't have..."

Ji Lin'an put a piece of meat in my bowl: "Don't talk nonsense. I've always thought you're pretty smart and quick-witted. None of us expected to encounter the apocalypse. You're not a special forces soldier, so it's normal that you can't react to some things. Do you think you're the female lead in a TV series? With the female lead's halo, miracles always happen. It's normal that ordinary people can't do that in their lives."

Ji Lin'an seemed to have magic; listening to him speak made me feel especially at ease, and in an instant, I felt enlightened. I had an urge to kiss him, but I held back. It's the apocalypse; I can't afford to have such wild thoughts.

I smiled and nodded: "How about you give me some physical training or something? I don't want you to always be the one rushing in front. My ability to adapt to situations isn't very strong either. I want to learn how to protect myself so that you can feel at ease protecting yourself."

Ji Lin'an smiled, a sweet smile. Although he didn't say anything, I knew he had agreed.

After dinner, we went for a walk together and took the opportunity to review the shortcomings of this future vision.

Ji Lin'an asked, "Did you notice when the car disappeared?"

I shook my head: "No, the car keys were with you, so why would the car be missing?"

Ji Lin'an pressed further: "I've been thinking about this issue since I woke up. If it's like in the movies, where you start it by tapping a wire, you'd have to break a window to get in. I don't remember there being any broken glass at the scene, so it's possible they used a key to drive it away."

I frowned: "The key? But why would someone have your key? Unless someone has been inside and taken the key, the only person who has been inside your house is Zhu Chen, but the probability of that is not very high. Didn't we all leave him in the downtown area? He couldn't possibly still be alive."

"He may not even be infected. At the moment, he is the only person we can think of who could drive the car away safely."

I nodded: "Then we can't rule out it's him. He said his wedding house is also in our neighborhood, so we'll find a way to prevent him from moving in, so we won't run into him."

Ji Lin'an stood up: "Let's go to the property management office and find out which apartment he lives in."

I nodded in agreement and headed towards the property management center. At this time, all the staff had gone home, and only one light was left on in the center, with one person on duty. As soon as we entered, the young woman on duty stood up and smiled, asking us what we needed. Ji Lin'an and I exchanged a glance, unsure of what to say. I thought for a minute and said, "It's like this, I found some belongings belonging to a resident. I know what he looks like, but I don't know his apartment number. Because the items are somewhat special, we need to return them to him in person, so we'd like you to help us find out his apartment number so we can return them to him personally."

The young woman from the property management office nodded politely: "Oh, I see. Do you have a photo of him or something?"

I took out my phone: "Oh, yes, I do. Let me look for it."

I immediately opened the WeChat Moments of Zhu Chen's former colleague. I remembered seeing photos of them having dinner together a while ago. Luckily, this person hadn't set their Moments to be visible for only three days, so I found it quickly. I opened the photos and handed them to the property management.

The young woman from the property management company said apologetically, "I'm sorry, please wait a moment. I'll send the photo to our group chat and ask the other colleagues. I haven't been here long and I haven't seen this person before."
