We walked from the main road into the forest. This section of the road was extremely difficult to walk on. The short, dense plants were close together, and we could only use the sticks that Dai Qiang and the others used to kill zombies to push the plants aside. Ji Lin'an and An Xin led the way, and Song Yi and I followed behind. Dai Qiang and the others followed behind us, and Wei Bin, Wufeng, and Qianliyan brought up the rear.
It took us more than half an hour to walk less than a kilometer. Even though we were wearing long sleeves and pants, we still couldn't avoid being scratched by the small thorns on the branches. After passing through the dense bushes, we stopped. I took out some medicine from my space and gave everyone some simple treatment for their wounds. Seeing that everyone was tired and thirsty, I decided to take out some supplies for everyone to replenish their energy and distributed some compressed biscuits and mineral water to everyone.
After resting for a while, we continued on. The path was easier to walk on after leaving the dense thicket. The trees were all four or five meters tall, and there was another large tree every five or six meters. The view was much wider, and several acres of land looked safe. There were no people or zombies. After replenishing our energy, everyone felt much more energetic, and we started to walk more confidently.
As everyone gradually forgot about their near-death experience, they walked along chatting and laughing. Just as Song Yi and I were talking about how she killed the person who wanted to kill her, Ji Lin'an and An Xin, who were walking in front of me, suddenly disappeared in front of us. I stood there stunned, looking around but couldn't find them anywhere.
I turned to Song Yi and asked, "Did you...did you see how they disappeared just now?"
Song Yi was also a little dazed, shaking her head blankly. Qianliyan and the others came up from behind: "What's wrong? Hey? Where are Lao Ji and the other two?"
I shook my head blankly: "I don't know, it just suddenly disappeared in front of me."
I picked up the phone and dialed Ji Lin'an's number, but no one answered. I subconsciously reached out my hand in the direction they disappeared, and my arm disappeared as well. When I pulled my hand back, my arm returned to normal. I said in surprise, "There's an invisible wall in front of us. They must have gone in. Let's go in too."
After saying that, I rushed straight in, completely disregarding what everyone behind me was thinking. After passing through the transparent wall, I was horrified by the scene before me. The once empty forest had been transformed into a field teeming with zombies, so numerous that I couldn't count them all. I saw Ji Lin'an and An Xin standing back to back, shooting at the zombies swarming towards them. Seeing this, I didn't dare to delay for a moment and started shooting at the zombies around them, slowly moving step by step to the edge of the zombie horde.
There were too many zombies to clear them all. Some of them had already noticed my presence and turned to come towards me. Even though some of them had protruding leg bones, it didn't stop them from moving quickly towards me. I was forced back step by step to where I came from, when suddenly I was blocked behind me. I looked back and saw nothing. It seemed to be the transparent wall that I had come through. Once I was in, I couldn't get out. No wonder Ji Lin'an and the others didn't come out to look for us.
I fired wildly with my gun, and zombies kept surging in. Suddenly, Clairvoyance appeared beside me. Wei Bin, Song Yi, and the others came in one after another, and were immediately terrified by the scene before them. I watched as the zombie horde gradually dispersed and surged toward them separately. I didn't care about anything else and immediately activated my protective shield skill to cover them. I called Clairvoyance to join me in firing at the horde of zombies surrounding Ji Lin'an and the others, quickly clearing a path. I reached out and pulled Ji Lin'an and An Xin into the protective shield, and the zombies were instantly blocked outside.
Ji Lin'an used his height advantage to check the situation ahead: "Let's go, there's a road over there, let's head that way, everyone stay close and don't get too separated."
Everyone obediently linked arms and huddled inside my protective shield. Ji Lin, An Qianliyan, An Xin, and I stood in front, firing at the surging zombies, and quickly rushed towards the exit behind the horde. The ground was covered with Hidden Fruits and fallen petals.
It got a bit crowded once we entered the path; there was only enough room for two people to stand in a row. I put down my gun and adjusted the shape of my shield. We slowed down and walked along the path. When we looked back again, we could no longer see the horde of corpses chasing us. The woods still looked so empty and peaceful.
Once they reached the intersection, they saw the stone forest that Ji Lin'an had seen in his skill. After seeing that the stone forest was temporarily safe, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Zhu Dachang, sitting on the ground, said in shock, "It was so scary, so scary! I've never seen so many zombies before."
The all-seeing eye smiled wearily and said, "It's not that you haven't seen it, it's that you haven't seen it up close."
Zhu Dachang nodded sharply: "That's right! If we saw so many zombies, we would have run far away long ago. How could we possibly fight them head-on?"
Wu Feng frowned: "I just saw Hidden Fruits everywhere. I guess the reason why Lao Ji didn't see these zombies in his skills before is because of the Hidden Fruits."
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Yes, so we still can't completely trust the skills we use. Everyone has to stay vigilant at all times. How many points do you need to exchange for a weapon?"
Song Yi opened the points shop: "Currently, we don't have enough points. The cheapest item is a dagger, which costs 8,000 points. Next is a longsword, which costs 10,000 points. A crossbow costs 15,000 points, a pistol costs 16,000 points, and a rifle costs 20,000 points. I have a dagger, and I plan to save up points to exchange for a crossbow or a pistol."
Ji Lin'an frowned and thought for a while. Zhu Dachang and the others didn't have daggers, so they could prioritize exchanging for daggers for self-defense. Ji Lin'an and An Xin had just killed so many zombies in the woods, so their points should have increased quite a bit. I turned to An Xin and asked, "An Xin, how many points do you have now?"
An Xin opened the points mall: "My previous points were cleared, and now I have 19,000 points."
Ji Lin'an also opened the points mall: "I have 25,500 points."
I looked at mine: "I have fourteen thousand."
Ji Lin'an closed his eyes and did some calculations: "Here's what we'll do. An Xin, you take the gun I gave you and exchange it for a long sword and a dagger. Song Yi, you give the dagger to Li Song or Dai Qiang, and I'll help you exchange it for a crossbow and then the long sword."
Ji Lin'an turned to look at me: "Su Su, keep your points. Find an opportunity to kill two more zombies and exchange them for a crossbow."
I nodded, and An Xin and Ji Lin'an exchanged their weapons. Song Yi gave her dagger to Dai Qiang, Ji Lin'an gave the crossbow to Song Yi, gave the two longswords to Wu Feng and Wei Bin, and gave the dagger to Li Song. I turned to Li Song and said, "Zhu Dachang, you should play it safe for now and stick with us. We'll give you a crossbow when Su Su has enough points."
Zhu Dachang nodded happily in agreement, and after resting for a while, we continued on our way.
