I nodded: "I think it's possible what you're saying, but the only ones who know we have guns are zombies and dead zombies."
Ji Lin'an shook his head: "My gun was on the back seat when they were chasing our car that day. Maybe that's when I saw it."
I asked, "Then how did Zhu Chen end up with them? And how did Zhu Chen know that the group they encountered was us?"
Ji Lin'an laughed: "You've been quite analytical lately, haven't you? Use your brain."
I scoffed, "I bet you can't guess it. Fine, then let me analyze it. Given Zhu Chen's personality, if he had encountered a zombie horde while in a police car that day, he probably would have run away without a second thought. He might have hurt some police officers in the process. Although he's a coward, he's really capable of killing when things get tough. He must have done quite a few murders and robberies in the past few months. Maybe he met that group of people, found that both sides were fearless, and simply joined them. As for how they knew about your family, it's probably because that group told us about meeting us, and the location happened to be near us. If they described what we looked like, Zhu Chen would definitely be able to guess it."
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Yes, that's the only way to analyze it for now. But they haven't gone in yet, and the reinforced doors and windows are of good quality."
"There's another problem. At first, I thought they had blocked the doors and windows beforehand so we couldn't get out, but just now they seemed to be entering the garden for the first time?"
Ji Lin'an took out his phone and quickly searched before saying, "It might be caused by the high temperature. The door lock is a smart lock, and the internal parts were damaged by the high temperature."
I said: They watched our car plunge off the cliff that day, but we both survived and ended up at the villa. They must have come to check and knew we were still alive, otherwise they wouldn't have set this fire tonight. Tonight is definitely not the first time they've come.
Ji Lin'an said: It seems we have to change the location. You should change the default location to this place first, so that we don't have to go back after two hours.
I opened my phone to edit the settings and looked at the weak network signal on the screen: "Our satellite network unit is still inside, and there's still a signal that hasn't been burned out. What a pity."
Ji Linan patted my shoulder: "I have another house in the city center, but I'm not sure if it's safe. We'll teleport there to check it out after you've finished making the changes."
I nodded: "It's fixed."
After saying that, I handed my phone to Ji Lin'an to enter the address. We clicked "send" and arrived at the house Ji Lin'an had mentioned. The room was pitch black. We turned on our phone flashlights to inspect the room. Just as we turned around, a zombie pounced on us. I immediately reached out and pulled Ji Lin'an back to Villa No. 5. I didn't know what would happen if we went back. I was shocked! I had pulled the wrong person! The next second, the zombie I had pulled back bit my neck off.
I returned to reality. Ji Lin'an was still asleep. I slumped dejectedly onto the table. I'm probably the most pathetic post-apocalyptic heroine in history. After two minutes, Ji Lin'an woke up. It seemed he had bravely fought the zombies for two minutes. Ji Lin'an opened his eyes, his mouth grinning, but his eyes held a murderous glint in them. I could only awkwardly laugh and fidget with my fingers: "I don't want to say sorry. How about I repay you with my body?"
After saying that, the smile on my face froze. How...how could I have blurted out what was on my mind! What should I do? Is there any way to salvage this situation?
Ji Lin'an didn't laugh, and said in a calm tone, "You can't make up for your mistake even if you don't pay with your body."
I immediately tensed up: "I! Um! I was just kidding, I..."
Ji Lin'an grinned wickedly, "Let's use your body to do something worthwhile today."
I immediately covered my chest with both hands, though for some reason I was still a little expectant. I lowered my head and said with a shy expression, "Could you wait until I take a shower first? I just worked up a sweat."
Seeing that Ji Lin'an didn't speak, I looked up and realized he was already gone. I quickly got up to look for him. Ji Lin'an had gone into the garden, and I chased after him.
Ji Lin'an turned to look at me: "Weren't you going to take a shower? Go on, you still have work to do later."
My eyes couldn't help but light up: "What kind of work?" (A thousand words of imagined scenarios omitted here)
Ji Lin'an regained his serious tone: "Now that we know our place is about to be exposed, we need to prepare for relocation. Rather than sitting and waiting to die while we're taking precautions, we might as well move directly. I checked the apartment in the city center. The front door was closed. Including the zombie you took, there are four zombies in total. When I killed one and fought the other two, no zombies came out from the other rooms. That means there are only four zombies on the first floor. It shouldn't be a problem for the two of us to work together to kill four zombies. There shouldn't be many zombies on the other floors. Zombies don't seem to be able to climb stairs. So, the next step is to take all the supplies we can carry."
Sorry, I was overthinking it again. Everyone else in the apocalypse is focused on fighting zombies and surviving, while I'm just being a burden and thinking about how to seduce my crush!
I tucked the stray hairs from my forehead behind my ear to hide my embarrassment: "So what do you need me to do now? I don't need to shower, I can shower after I'm dry."
Ji Lin'an smiled and patted my head, then suddenly kissed my forehead: "Consider this payment in kind. Get ready, we'll go clear out the zombies over there first, but the number might change depending on the time."
I hadn't recovered from Ji Lin'an's kiss yet when Ji Lin'an turned and walked into the inner room, and I realized: "Then why don't we drive to the neighborhood and take a look with a drone?"
Ji Lin'an said, "That apartment is in the city center, above the Fortune Center, with more than a dozen shopping malls and office buildings nearby. The number of zombies there is at least ten times that of our neighborhood."
