Suddenly everything went black and we all passed out. When we woke up again, we were in a wooden cabin. Qianliyan and Ji Lin'an were standing in the room, while the others were still unconscious. I struggled to get up: "What happened?"
Ji Lin'an came over when she heard my voice: "We've been forced to move to a different location."
Ji Lin'an helped me up: "Where are we?"
Ji Lin'an shook his head: "I don't know, but we are in a wooden cabin on a lake. The exterior structure and materials of the cabin look very safe. The windows are one-way glass, so you can see out from inside but not from outside. The cabin is fully equipped with all kinds of facilities, including a living room, dining room, bedroom and bathroom."
Curious, I got up and looked around: "Is this because they're worried we'll die too quickly and the show will end, so they're quickly arranging a VIP safe house for us?"
Qianliyan ran over: "Su Yi, come here, I'll show you this."
I walked towards the direction of the telescope. Outside the safe house was a terrace surrounding the cabin. It was drizzling outside, and I couldn't resist reaching out, but was blocked by a barrier. The terrace was surrounded by barriers, with only a floating bridge leading to a nearby forest. A sign was on a wooden pillar beside the exit:
Safe House Exit Instructions:
The barrier will be activated at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and can only be deactivated after everyone has left the safe house.
The barrier will be activated at 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. It can only be deactivated after everyone has returned to the safe house. (Dead persons will be automatically removed from the list.)
I frowned and asked, "Why are there two times to activate the barrier?"
Ji Lin'an walked to my side: "What I understand is that we all have to leave the safe house at 9 o'clock and 2 o'clock every day, and can only enter again when the next barrier opens. The first time the barrier opens, it can only close after everyone has left the safe house, and the second time it can only close after everyone has returned."
I smiled wryly: "This is what provides us with safe shelter, but we are forced to go out for a few hours every day, and we must ensure that everyone goes in and out together. If someone is unwilling to go out or cannot come back, then the safe house is not safe."
Ji Lin'an nodded: "That's what I mean."
Thousand-Mile Eyes laughed and said, "It's just a team battle, isn't it?"
I wondered, "But we don't even know how many people are left. How are we supposed to fight this team battle?"
Thousand-Mile Eyes pointed to the phone: "You haven't checked your phone yet, have you? Future Island has updated with new gameplay."
I immediately opened my phone and saw the gameplay update instructions:
Currently, only 50 people remain alive. The zombie island has been redesigned, with 5 safe houses within the island. Each safe house can accommodate a maximum of 10 people. Teams that have already formed 10 people will move directly into a safe house. Teams that have not formed 10 people will be scattered throughout the zombie island. Please, lucky ones, actively form teams to move into safe houses. The closing time of the safe house barrier will be delayed by 10 hours. If a team of 10 people has not moved into a safe house after 10 hours, the barrier will be permanently closed.
The safe house can be activated for 10 people. If anyone is injured or killed after activation, their occupancy information will be automatically cleared without affecting the occupancy of other lucky people. People in the same safe house cannot attack each other, but can only attack people in other safe houses.
Those who have not yet collected their supplies can go to collect their personal supplies individually. If the supplies are not collected within 10 hours, they will be deemed to have forfeited their right to collect the supplies, and the supplies will be cleared.
A complete map of Zombie Island can be viewed on the Future Island homepage.
I put down my phone and looked at Ji Lin'an and Qianliyan: "It really is a team battle."
Thousand-Mile Eyes nodded: "Yes, it's a good thing we've always been in a team, otherwise we'd be stranded here now."
I reached out my hand towards the exit of the safe house, only to be blocked by an invisible door: "Wasn't it said that the barrier's closing time would be delayed by 10 hours? Why is ours closed?"
Ji Lin'an said, "The door closed as soon as we went inside."
I nodded: "Why aren't they awake yet?"
I entered the house, and An Xin was already awake, sitting on the floor, cautiously observing her surroundings. When she saw me enter, she asked, "Where is this?"
I laughed and said, "The safe house has been updated. You can find the details on Future Island."
The others opened their eyes and groggily observed their surroundings. I walked towards the rooms; there were two double rooms and two triple rooms. I chose a well-ventilated room.
The living room started to get noisy, everyone must have woken up. Thousand-Mile Eye couldn't wait to explain the new way to play in the safe house to everyone. I lay in bed, too lazy to get up. I hadn't been able to sleep in a comfortable bed for many days. I yawned and observed the room. Apart from the two beds, there was a simple wardrobe and a large floor-to-ceiling window with a view of the lake and forest outside. There was a large clock directly opposite the bed. It was 9:21 a.m.
Song Yi walked to the door of the room: "Sister, what are you doing hiding here?"
I waved to Song Yi: "Come in, this is our room."
Song Yi walked to the other bed, sat down, and said with a smile, "Aren't you sharing a room with Lao Ji?"
I laughed and said, "If I want to share a room with Lao Ji, where will you sleep? The beds are all assigned. If you want to sleep in a room by yourself, then someone will have to sleep on the sofa."
Song Yi nodded: "Oh, is that so? I haven't had a chance to look at the other rooms yet."
After everyone finished their tour, Ji Lin'an assigned rooms. Song Yi and I shared a room, Ji Lin'an, Wu Feng, and Qianliyan shared a room, Wei Bin and An Xin shared a room, and Chen Hu, Dai Qiang, and Li Song shared a room.
After the rooms were assigned and everyone had toured their rooms, they all returned to the living room and sat down. There was a screen that looked like a TV on one wall of the living room. We looked around but couldn't find the remote control. Ji Lin'an walked to the TV, fumbled around it, and turned it on.
The TV screen lit up, displaying the number of survivors on the left: 48. Two leaderboards were shown on the right.
Wu Feng frowned as he looked at the screen and said, "Two people died so quickly, so the remaining eight people won't be able to get into the safe house?"
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Yes, the safe house can only be activated when 10 people enter."
Wufeng continued, "How long does this game last?"
Ji Lin'an shook his head: "I don't know, maybe I'll update it later."
Wu Feng's expression was gloomy, as if he was thinking about something. An Xin spoke up: "We can finally get a good night's sleep."
Everyone nodded, and Ji Lin'an said, "Let's have a proper lunch. We haven't had a proper meal since we entered the zombie island."
I knew Ji Lin'an was trying to ease the tension. Ever since the rankings came out, the atmosphere among the ten of us had become noticeably strange. I took Ji Lin'an into the space. The safe house had water and electricity. We took some self-heating hot pot and beef rice noodles out, and after everyone ate, the atmosphere finally eased a lot.
