After a quick cleaning of the new house, we returned to the villa, put the most frequently used items into the mobile space, and then went back to the new house to put them out. In this back and forth, we moved most of our supplies over. Now the biggest problem is our vegetable and fruit trees. The new house doesn't have a garden, and although there is a balcony, the planting area is not large, so we can only move one-third of them over.
Ji Lin and I lay down on the sofa to rest, and I said, "What should we do with those vegetable and fruit trees? Can we clear out the sunroom and laundry room to grow them?"
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Sure, strawberries and blueberries don't take up much space, we can bring a few pots over."
I said, "Take some planting boxes out of your treasure chest. Make good use of the opportunities you have these next few days."
Ji Lin'an said, "Okay, then there's the issue of water. There are no reservoirs over there, so we'll have a problem getting water."
I said, "Let's turn it into a rainwater collector. We can also put some of the water from the reservoir into the mobile space. It should be enough if we conserve a little. In case those idiots see that we're not inside, they can just come in, walk around, and leave. We can come back to collect water from time to time."
Ji Lin'an nodded: "Yes, that's fine."
A week later, we moved all our supplies to the new house. The villa was left with only some furniture and water from the reservoir. Before the apocalypse began, we had carefully prepared the villa, thinking it would be a very good shelter. Unfortunately, we only stayed there for four months. After taking one last look at the villa, Ji Lin'an and I officially moved to the new house. However, we left a few solar-powered surveillance cameras in and around the villa to make it easier to observe the group's movements.
Three days before the fire, surveillance footage showed that the group's car had arrived nearby. The person who got out of the back seat was indeed Zhu Chen. Zhu Chen led the group to quietly observe Ji Lin'an's villa. Zhu Chen said to the leader, "Are you sure the person you saw that day is the person in the photo on my phone?"
The leader grinned lewdly: "I'm sure. I thought this girl was pretty good-looking that day. If I could capture them, I'd definitely have to make her serve me."
Zhu Chen smiled and said, "Of course, she has a top-notch figure, I guarantee you'll be satisfied. They're staying here."
The leader glanced at Zhu Chen: "You and A-San will stay here and observe for the next few days. A-San said he saw a gun in the back seat the other day, but we don't know if it was a real gun or a fake one. That kid seems pretty clever; he's quite capable of escaping from us. We should keep an eye on him."
Zhu Chen nodded and bowed, replying, "The second basement level is the storage room. When I ran into them before, it was at the wholesale market in City C. It looked like they had ordered a lot of things, which should all be stored down there."
A moment later, a man approached the leader: "Brother Tiger, they've installed an electric fence on the inner wall. I checked the doors and windows, and they've been reinforced and equipped with security systems. It's unlikely we can sneak in quietly. If we force our way in, we'll easily alert them. They have guns, and we'll be at a disadvantage if we try to force our way in."
The leader rubbed his nose hard: "Damn it, installing electric fences, reinforcing doors and windows, and even guns, they've gone to such lengths, they must have known all along that a zombie outbreak was coming."
Zhu Chen revealed a hint of ruthlessness: "Brother Tiger, on the day the zombie outbreak occurred, my wife and I were tricked into going to a hotel and then reported for soliciting prostitution. On the way, a policeman said that a man had booked the room and a woman was waiting in a coffee shop. I kept guessing it was the two of them, but at the time I thought they wouldn't be that stupid. The police could find out who booked the room as soon as they checked the hotel records. If they were summoned, we would definitely have a grudge against them. Why would they take that risk? Now it seems that maybe they know something and are not afraid of the police checking at all, or maybe they find out but don't have time to investigate them."
The leader's eyes darted around: "So, these two are quite dangerous."
Zhu Chen nodded repeatedly: "We definitely need to be careful."
The leader glared and said, "Then let's just take care of them. You and Ah San figure out how to get rid of them. This place looks pretty good; we can use it as our shelter."
I used to think that Zhu Chen had a distorted worldview and a weak personality. He didn't know how to deal with any major events without his mother's guidance. Without his mother, the things he did were even more disgusting. It seems that I misunderstood his mother. It turns out that his mother was directing him to do things in order to prevent him from going astray. Now that his mother is gone, his true nature has been revealed.
After watching the surveillance footage, I noticed that Ji Lin'an had brought over a plate of strawberries. I immediately reached out to take it: "The strawberries are ripe. I remember when we first met, it was early autumn. Time flies."
Ji Lin'an nodded gently: "Yes, that's fast."
I picked up a strawberry and popped it into my mouth: "I wonder if they'll stop going in after observing for a few days and finding no one there."
Ji Lin'an also picked up a strawberry: "The villa has a good location with good privacy and a high security level. Even if we are not there, they will still go in. They may also choose to stay there if they don't have supplies."
I said, "Perhaps we can find a way to prevent them from living there, so that our water supply can be guaranteed and we will have another safe haven."
