Jiang Kexin wanted to slap me again, and I instinctively turned my head away, but after waiting for a long time there was no movement. When I looked up, I saw that Jiang Kexin's hand was being held by Zhu Chen: "Okay, wife, doesn't your hand hurt when you hit her? What if you hurt your hand because her skin is so thick?"
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at them. I couldn't take it anymore. I really wanted to go to Ji Lin'an's armory, grab a gun, and shoot them all.
I said impatiently, "Are you even listening to me? Haven't you heard that showing off your love leads to a quick death? Do you even want to live anymore?!"
Zhu Chen then removed Jiang Kexin's hand from her mouth. Seeing that the two of them had sat down, I began my fabrication: "Before the apocalypse, I had a dream about a zombie outbreak. In the dream, someone told me to stockpile supplies. I didn't believe it at first, but I kept having the same dream for over ten days. I thought I might as well stockpile them. Anyway, if it's fake, I can just open a supermarket and if I can't sell them all, I won't lose anything. So I stocked up on a lot of things. I even planted vegetables in the garden."
Jiang Kexin walked curiously toward the garden upon hearing this, but after circling around and not finding it, she stormed in angrily. I felt like she was going to hit me again, so I quickly said, "The vegetable garden is accessed through the back door, but you need a key. The key is with my husband, and there's a spare key, but I can't remember where it is right now. Could you let me go and let me look for it?"
Zhu Chen's initially delighted face darkened slightly: "Don't try any tricks. I can see through your little schemes. Just stay put and don't make me slap you."
I put on an innocent face and said, "No, there really is a vegetable garden. If you don't believe me, go to the back door. There's a door in the servants' quarters with a peephole that lets you see the vegetable garden."
Zhu Chen went to check with some skepticism, and returned two minutes later with a big smile, hugging Jiang Kexin and showering her with kisses. The two untied me, but tied my arms with rope, forcing me to only raise my forearms. They followed me, and I pretended to search, thinking about how to use the Anywhere Door when they weren't looking. After searching for a while, I had a plan. I remembered that Ji Lin'an had buried the spare key to the vegetable garden door in the potted plants I bought. I quickly dug out the key and handed it to Zhu Chen. Zhu Chen took the key and went to open the door, while Jiang Kexin watched me from the side. Zhu Chen cheered after opening the door, and I took the opportunity to say to Jiang Kexin, "Aren't you going to see the fruits of my labor? My vegetables are growing very well."
Jiang Kexin glanced towards the back door and then turned to look at me, seemingly hesitant.
I pouted and said, "What can I do in this state? There are zombies everywhere outside. I'm begging you to let me stay. I definitely wouldn't dare to do anything. If you want to go see, go ahead. I'll stay here and wait for you to come back."
After saying that, Jiang Kexin couldn't help but run towards the vegetable garden. Hearing them both immersed in the joy of having fresh vegetables to eat, I quickly took out my phone and entered the location of villa number 5 in the community. I had heard Ji Lin'an say before that no one lived there, and I had just passed by and specifically looked at it; it didn't seem like anyone was going in or out. In a flash, I arrived at villa number 5 and was teleported to the garden. I quickly looked around to make sure there were no zombies, and checked the front door, but it wouldn't open. I could only find a relatively hidden spot and send a message to Ji Lin'an telling him I was at villa number 5. Ji Lin'an replied instantly and told me to wait for him to come over.
It was nearing noon and the sun was blazing. I stood out conspicuously in the garden. Luckily, each garden had a wall, so I hid behind the garden gate, close to the edge. After a while, I heard light footsteps. I tensed up, but relaxed slightly when I saw Ji Lin'an running towards me from a distance through the crack in the door. When he was almost there, I opened the door. He came in, looked around, and closed the door behind him. Then he grabbed my shoulder and looked me up and down: "Are you alright? Are you hurt?"
I shook my head: "I'm fine, but my ex-boyfriend's current girlfriend slapped me twice, and it hurt a lot."
I looked at Ji Lin'an with a wronged expression, but with a smile on my face. Ji Lin'an relaxed his tense shoulders and untied me after seeing that I was alright. Then he led me to the front door of Villa No. 5, gave me a shushing gesture and told me to back off. He then took out a dagger from his waist and pried at the door for a while. Perhaps because no one had lived there for a long time, the door and lock were a bit worn out. After a while, Ji Lin'an opened the door. He went inside alone, inspected the house to make sure there was no one or no zombies, and then came back to pull me inside.
The layout of this villa was the same as Ji Lin'an's, but it was uninhabited and unfinished, with only concrete floors and walls. Ji Lin'an pulled me directly to the kitchen. Just as I was wondering why he brought me there, he led me to the window and made me squat down. Then he looked up at the opposite side. I followed his gaze and saw that it was Ji Lin'an's house across the street. I could clearly see the garden gate. Before I could take a second look, Ji Lin'an pressed my head down with one large hand. He patted the dust off the ground and made me sit down. He sat down himself, seemingly relieved, and leaned against the wall, looking somewhat slumped. I didn't know what to say. Seeing him like this, I felt a strange sensation in my heart.
After resting for a few minutes, Ji Lin'an peeked at his house again. He even reached out and pressed my head down to stop me from looking. After a while, he sat down and asked, "How did they end up here? And why did they kidnap you and bring you to my house?"
I looked at Ji Lin'an helplessly: "It's fate, I guess. Their wedding room is in the same complex. Maybe he saw us recklessly killing zombies at the garden gate before. He even said it was because I'd gained weight that he discovered we had supplies. It makes me angry. Have I gained weight?"
I stretched my chin, trying to make my double chin disappear. Ji Lin'an looked at me with a subtle smile; I could guess the answer without him saying a word.
I thought for a moment and said, "We have to find a way back, otherwise we won't even have a place to sleep."
