Chapter 11 The Believer Disobeys for the First Time

Li Chonghua snapped out of his daze, carefully put away the detector as if it were a precious treasure, nodded, and told Qiao Mei to follow him.

"Perfect timing. This is also related to the superpowers you'll be activating with it later. Whether you can help it or not depends mainly on you, its master."

As he spoke, Li Chonghua aimed his right eye at the detection hole of the titanium alloy silver door in front of him, unlocked it, and led Qiao Mei inside.

"After we go inside, I'll need your help to collect some of its blood. Also, please take out your Familiar Stone while you're at it. I'll go get some materials."

Li Chonghua handed Qiao Mei a syringe with a thick silver needle, then walked towards a small room in the treatment room.

Qiao Mei looked at the syringe, which was almost as thick as her finger, and then at Ao Cang's thin dragon body. In the end, she put down the syringe and asked Ao Cang if there was any other way to get some blood out.

"Using this will definitely hurt a lot, and you're so afraid of pain..."

At this point, Qiao Mei suddenly fell silent, nervously raising her red eyes to look at Ao Cang's probing golden dragon eyes, and tried to salvage the situation, saying, "I mean, your physical condition is already so poor, pricking you with a needle would definitely hurt even more, haha..."

Ao Cang, unsure whether to believe him or not, used his divine power to make a small incision on his body, allowing Qiao Mei to insert the needle.

"It will naturally hurt when you draw blood. The sooner you feel the pain, the sooner it will be over. Just go ahead and draw blood."

Qiao Mei never expected him to do this. Her eyes reddened with heartache. In order to end his pain as soon as possible, she could only grit her teeth and insert the needle into the puncture site, drawing out a little blood. Afterward, she quickly pulled out the needle, helped him stop the bleeding, and pressed the wound with a cotton swab.

Ao Cang wanted to say no, but seeing Qiao Mei's reddened eyes, he swallowed his words.

Not long after, Li Chonghua came out with the materials. He used something like an electric drill to drill a small hole in the affinity stone, then injected Ao Cang's blood into it, and added a lot of powder made from some kind of stone, which he then shook.

After doing all this, as if he had mixed a drink, he handed the familiar stone with a round opening to Qiao Mei: "Drink it. After you have his lightning familiar superpower, you will officially establish a connection. I can find a way to help you alleviate some of his pain, provided you are willing."

Qiao Mei looked at the liquid that had turned blackish-blue and drank it all without hesitation. Although it tasted really strange and made her feel like she was going to vomit, she suppressed the nausea because it contained Ao Cang's blood that had been painfully drawn out. She wiped her mouth and waited for her body to react.

Just as Li Chonghua was about to tell her that this stuff was hard to drink and that she could drink it slowly without rushing, he saw her gulp it down in one go. For a moment, he didn't know what to say, so he could only have Qiao Mei take Ao Cang to a place that looked like an operating table and have her close her eyes to wait for more lightning-related power to come from Ao Cang.

Meanwhile, he himself was hammering some completely transparent stones.

Qiao Mei lay on the platform with Ao Cang, and noticed that her body was starting to heat up. The tingling sensation of electricity running through her body was also slowly getting stronger. Just as she felt a force trying to break out of her right hand, Li Chonghua's voice rang in her ear.

"Okay, sit up now. After you finish drinking this powder, the little black dragon's lightning-based superpowers will be completely locked inside you."

Qiao Mei looked at the cup of something that looked like dust mixed with water that was handed to her, frowned, and then drank it all in one gulp.

"Now that we've finished drinking, what's the way to help Da... help Ao Cang?"

Li Chonghua took the empty cup, took out two silver chains, each with a black stone pendant, and handed them to Qiao Mei.

"This is a life force necklace made of cosmic star stones. If worn together, it will periodically absorb the life force of the stronger party and transfer it to the weaker party. It can only be used between humans and their familiars. Most of the ones I've seen absorb life force from their familiars. I've never seen the opposite before."

"Have you thought it through? Once you put it on, you won't be able to take it off for another year."

Given Little Black Dragon's condition, wouldn't he have been drained dry by Qiao Mei in just one year?

Li Chonghua was prepared for Qiao Mei to refuse, but he didn't expect her to just nod and then put the necklace on directly.

Ao Cang was also watching Qiao Mei's actions. When she was about to put it on, he stopped her with his dragon tail and shook his dragon head.

"No need."

He felt that Qiao Mei was a very obedient believer, at least so far.

To his great surprise, for the first time she did not do as he wished, but gently grasped his dragon tail and put the life force necklace around her neck.

"Why not? I told you, I won't let you die."

As she spoke, Qiao Mei wrapped the remaining necklace around Ao Cang's neck. The life force necklace could shrink according to the size of the wearer's neck, and as soon as it was put on, it became the right size for Ao Cang, clinging tightly to his neck.

Seeing this, Li Chonghua was surprised again. Although he didn't quite understand why Qiao Mei did this, he respected her decision and didn't ask any more questions. Instead, he asked her to try to activate the Raiden Kin's superpowers and release some lightning.

"If the release goes smoothly, we can leave with the little black dragon in a bit. I'll develop the energy to help him recover his health and contact you via the quantum computer later."

“Okay.” Qiao Mei stretched out her right hand and, as Li Chonghua had taught her, concentrated her spiritual power in her right hand and released lightning.

"Generally speaking, when someone releases a familiar's superpower for the first time, it's enough to be able to identify what kind of familiar it is. If nothing unexpected happens, yours should be a small electrical current. Don't be discouraged; you'll see what happens next..."

Before Li Chonghua could finish speaking, he was so frightened by the bright blue-purple lightning bolt in front of him that he fell silent. He even took off his white-rimmed glasses in disbelief and looked closer.

"Have you ever tested your mental strength level?"

He had only seen such a powerful superpower from a familiar being on the first try; he had only seen it once before, decades ago, from that other person.

Qiao Mei shook her head: "Not yet. I was just planning to go after finishing Ao Cang's treatment. Can we get tested here too?"

Li Chonghua put his white-rimmed glasses back on, but this time, his hand holding them trembled slightly: "Of course, come with me."

Qiao Mei had read the entire book and knew that mental strength was closely related to the ability to unleash the superpowers of her subordinates and the upper limit of her mecha research. If she remembered correctly, Xu Hui was at the S+ level, so as her daughter, she should be about the same, right?

Just as she was thinking this, Li Chonghua took her to the place.

The machine that measures mental strength is somewhat like the ATM Qiao Mei had seen in modern times, except that the withdrawal area is replaced by a platform with a palm-shaped design.

"Put your right hand on it, clear your mind, and try to resist the pressure it brings. When you really can't hold on anymore, you can take your hand back."
