Chapter 4: You, I, Buddha

Qi Wuhuo did not wait for Mingxin's return after waiting for several days in Lianyang Temple. Or rather, he was not waiting deliberately. Everything happened naturally. The Tao was in his heart. He came and went freely, and every move was in harmony with the Tao.

Yang Jian asked, "Where are you going, Your Majesty? Do you need me to escort you?"

Yang Jian is a calm and composed person. He knows that the strength of Emperor Zhenwu is unparalleled in the world.

The leader of the royal masters who fought their way up.

Its growth trajectory can really be described as a complete destruction of all demons.

Even the Great Emperor of Longevity of the South Pole was unwilling to have a head-on conflict with the Emperor, let alone those under his command?

Over the years, Yang Jian has tracked down and arrested all the backers of the Southern Emperor of Immortality, and there are countless gods and demons who worship immortality. Especially recently, he discovered that the immortality sects in the world that had been almost completely suppressed have reappeared.

At this moment, he was worried that the news that the Bodhi seeds were about to mature would spread, causing those evil spirits to be ignorant of good and evil. If the desires disturbed their minds, they would do evil things and block the way near the Buddha's kingdom, which would be bad.

There is nothing wrong in seeking immortality, but if one does it at all costs and sacrifices the lives of others to support oneself, then one deserves to die.

It doesn't matter if these demons die, but if they disturb the emperor, they will be punished by death.

These gods, demons and monsters can do anything for the sake of immortality.

Emperor Zhenwu looked at him and said calmly, "Since you want to go together, why don't we walk together for a while."

There was joy in Yang Jian's eyes, and then he bowed and said, "Yes!"

Walking slowly all the way out of the snow-covered Zhongzhou city, it seemed as if he was not in a hurry to go to the Western Buddhist Kingdom. He just walked casually. Yang Jian transformed a carriage into one, and the black-robed emperor sat in it. The heroic young general sat next to the carriage, waving the whip and moving it. As he walked forward, he saw that the world was extremely peaceful.

During this thousand years, the human world has been extremely prosperous. With the network of various schools of thought and the destiny of humanity, with the human gods conferring titles above and the gods of the underworld below, the human world has been built into an extremely stable state. However, if any demons escape, the students of the military strategists will form an array to wait for them and kill them in a short time.

Right now the relationship between the human world and heaven is harmonious, but when the immortals and gods in heaven come down to earth they have to report to heaven and inform the human world before they can transform into humans and travel around in this mortal world. Therefore, although there are some minor twists and turns in this great world, it is unprecedentedly stable.

But Yang Jian didn’t know why the human world was so powerful and would become even more powerful in the future.

Why are there such deep eyes in the Emperor's eyes?

It seems that such prosperity may bring some problems.

Is it the Great Emperor of Immortality of Antarctica?

As a divine general who participated in the thousand-year-long struggle between the North and the South, Yang Jian has already vaguely sensed that the contradiction between the two great emperors is irreconcilable and the struggle for the great way is not far from breaking out. But will the existence of the Great Emperor Changsheng of the South Pole make the Great Emperor Zhenwu value it so much?

Yang Jian has always been a wise and calm person. He is the leader among the generals in heaven. He did not ask any questions. The carriage drove forward, speeding up. When passing a lake, the emperor closed his eyes and said, "Stop for a while."

The two strange beasts paused for a moment, and Yang Jian asked, "Emperor?"

The Great Emperor Zhenwu looked outside the car and said in a gentle tone, "It's an old friend."

He got off the transformed carriage, and Yang Jian followed closely behind him. With a sweep of his sleeves, the carriage behind him instantly turned into Yuan Qi and dissipated into the void. There was thunder above the sky, but when the Great Emperor Zhenwu appeared, the thunder was completely restrained in an instant.

Yang Jian looked ahead and saw two old monks cursing at each other.

These two monks are both old and have low cultivation levels. They seem to be dying of old age, but they are very magnanimous. One of them calls you a fool, while the other calls you a bald donkey. They are making a lot of noise and seem to be planning to fight. If these two old monks were not about to die, they would have probably fought on the spot.

Now they just cursed at each other for a while, then sat there gasping for breath, neither of them convinced.

This one yelled, "You have forgotten the distinction between the ordinary and the holy, and your emotions are all exposed. I think you don't look like a Buddhist, but more like a donkey or a horse!"

The other one replied: "Bullshit, I don't think you are a Buddhist, nor do you look like a donkey or a horse, and you don't look like a living being in this world."

"If you are like a Buddhist practitioner, then you are obsessed with appearances. But what is the difference between you and a donkey or a horse?"

The two men yelled at each other, and Yang Jian went to inquire, only to learn that the two monks were from the same hometown and practiced Buddhism together, but their paths were not the same at all. They had been quarreling since they were young, and from adulthood to old age. Now they were dying, and each of them chose a direction to go according to the Buddhist teachings to decide where they would be buried.

One took a copper coin as a token of trust, and the other took a silver needle as a token of trust.

However, they never expected that the two would bump into each other here again, and thus they started arguing even more, arguing about all kinds of "grudges" in the past. At this moment, they asked Yang Jian for his opinion. Yang Jian looked carefully, and using his magical powers, he found the copper coin and token in this place. When the two looked at it, they were both speechless.

The copper coin is here, and the silver needle just happens to be inserted into the hole in the middle of the copper coin.

Yang Jian said gently: "It seems that the two of you have the same level of Buddhist teachings."

The two old monks saw the young man with a dignified demeanor and thanked him first. Then they looked away and saw the man in the black robe and jade crown. They were a little surprised and asked, "You are..., with such a dignified demeanor, are you some immortal saint in person?"

The black-robed emperor had the playful spirit of his youth and answered gently, "What is a saint?"

The two old monks looked at each other and answered:

“The fundamental wisdom is pure, empty, and harmonious, and only then can one attain the supreme state of mind.”

The Emperor replied, “Since fundamental wisdom is empty, there is no such thing as a saint.”

"Isn't it?"

The two old monks were stunned and speechless. After pondering for a long time, one of them suddenly clapped his hands and laughed, "If that's the case, who is this person in front of us?"

The other old monk shook his head and laughed: "I don't know him, I don't know him!"

The black-robed emperor smiled gently and said, "It's right that you don't know me."

"You two have made further progress in Buddhism compared to before. This place is very cold in winter and is not a place to stay for long."

"It's better to go early."

"Hahaha, thank you very much."

The Great Emperor Zhenwu smiled gently, stood up and left. Seeing his expression, the two monks no longer agreed to answer, but just looked at each other, and each laughed and scolded: "You are leaving."

"It's death."

"To die is to go."

"Going is not death."

"If you and I have another life, we will still argue and scold each other as we did in this life. If you are a mouse, I will be a green snake. Old monk, I will eat you!"

"Ha, if you were a green snake, I would be a hawk, and I would catch you and fly you up to the sky."

"Bang! Throw you onto the rock!"

"If you are a hawk, I am a flying dragon."

"You can be a flying dragon in this form, and I can be a holy monk."

"Haha, if you become a holy monk, I will strip you of your robes, burn your scriptures, and drive you out of the mountain, and make you a naked bald donkey!"

The two monks laughed at each other, but the sound of their laughter and scolding gradually became weaker, and the words they said did not sound like two Buddhists. The black-robed emperor saw his old friend and walked away. Yang Jian followed closely behind him. Looking back, it seemed that he could understand the friendship between the two from their laughter and scolding. He also vaguely saw the Buddha's light flowing in the void, and there were Kāla Bodhisattva and the Four Seasons Officials accompanying them, with dazzling brilliance. He said:

"Emperor, they are..."

The Great Emperor Zhenwu did not turn around, but said calmly: "It's two old friends."

"Old friend?"

"Well, one is the reincarnation of the Medicine Master Liuliguang Tathagata, and the other is the incarnation of the Golden Cicada in front of the Buddha."

The Great Emperor Zhenwu casually mentioned the name that made Yang Jian's mind stagnate. The young man turned around and looked at the monks who were still "swearing" at each other in the distance, and said, "Are these two still in reincarnation?"

"It's not reincarnation, it's cultivation."

“How many times has this happened…”

"How many times? Who knows?"

The Great Emperor Zhenwu said softly, bidding farewell to his old friend. The two monks behind him gradually stopped scolding each other. One of them put his hands together, looked arrogant, and laughed loudly:

"Heaven and earth are not benevolent, and treat all things as straw dogs."

“The sage is unkind and treats the people as straw dogs.”

"The man leaning on a cane is unkind, and treats the Buddhas of the three ages, the ancestors of the past, the four saints and the six ordinary people as straw dogs."

These three sentences all have the flavor of Zen Buddhism, but they just fall into the void, and then they are chanted in a low voice: "The spring sun shines on the old woman, and destroys the frost and snow behind her."

"Cut the crane and continue the duck, break the scales and split the bucket."

"I am exhausted and trapped against a wall, and others are laughing so hard that their mouths burst."

The other old monk looked gentle as he looked at the Bi Bo Lake in front of him and said:

"When the bottom of the barrel falls off, the land becomes vast; when the life force is cut off, the lake becomes clear."

"It would be nice to have some red furnace snow..."

"Spread out like a lamp to illuminate the night."

The two monks who were struggling in the cycle of reincarnation, with Buddha's heart and perseverance, and practicing in the confusion of reincarnation looked at each other. They could not suddenly realize the Buddhist principles in every life, and there were times when they were confused. It was a rare opportunity for them to meet today. Suddenly, they put their hands together, and the anger on their faces disappeared. They just answered calmly:

"Where do you want to go, fellow practitioner?"

"The world is like the sea, and I cannot leave it. Where is there any coming and going?"

"No going, no returning!"

After laughing a few times, the two Buddhists stopped breathing and passed away again.

Waiting for the next spiritual awakening may be several years, dozens of years, or hundreds of years later, or perhaps you will never wake up again.

If you do not have great fearlessness, you cannot practice this Buddhist Dharma. If you do not have great compassion, you cannot practice this Buddhist Dharma.

Yang Jian was shocked.

The Great Emperor Zhenwu paced forward, and Yang Jian seemed to be thinking about something. He realized that the Emperor came here to see an old friend.

It is not just for the Bodhi fruit.

However, the Emperor was at such a high level and his actions were so lofty that he could not fully understand them. So he simply put all these doubts behind him, followed the Emperor forward, and summoned the carriage again to move forward.

In a moment, they had arrived in front of the Buddha Kingdom, where Buddha's light was flowing and the sacred mountain was a pure place. Even the now famous Qingyuan Miaodao Zhenjun felt heavy-hearted. This Buddha Kingdom was a powerful force with a great emperor level, and the Buddha was at the level of the Five Elders.

Whenever he came here in the past, there was always an Arhat to lead him in.

Today is different.

Yang Jian was about to pass on the order.

But before he could pass the talisman inside, there was a huge and magnificent light inside the Buddhist gate, and suddenly there was a loud and majestic sound of chanting. The Lingshan Buddhist Kingdom barrier array was actually unfolded, and then the Buddha light in front changed, and one after another Vajra, Arhat, and Bodhisattva, with their hands clasped together, their feet on lotus flowers, and golden light, lined up on both sides of the Lingshan road.

Fairies from heaven scatter flowers, and golden lotuses emerge from the ground.

Dragons and elephants roared, and the gods of the Buddhist sects held lotus petals in their hands and scattered them. There was magnificent golden light and white rainbows, illuminating an area of hundreds of miles, so magnificent that it was astonishing.

Even Yang Jian, who was calm and composed, was shocked by the scene and couldn't help but say:

"Emperor...don't you always dislike these things?"

The emperor, wearing a black robe and jade crown, was sitting peacefully in the carriage and said calmly:

"I don't care."

"But if I don't accept such courtesy."

"In the Buddha's country, this heart will be uneasy."

Buddhaland, I feel uneasy...

Yang Jian whispered these seven words in his heart, and felt a surge of turbulent past, and felt a heavy weight, and couldn't help but feel his blood boiling. He looked at this Buddhist country, but didn't know if he could reach this point in the future.

Just as he was thinking about this, he saw in front of him the Great Emperor, one of the Five Elders of Heaven.

The Lord Buddha Amitabha came down to greet him personally, and on his left was the future Buddha Maitreya Bodhisattva, who came down together and said:

"I didn't know that the Great Emperor Zhentian was coming here. I failed to welcome him from afar. Please forgive me, Your Majesty. Please forgive me."

The rest of the Bodhisattvas, dragons, elephants, and Vajras all bowed in unison.

But inside the Buddhist country where the Buddha's light is flowing, it is still peaceful and tranquil.

Under the Bodhi tree, the Taoist Master Ran Deng opened his eyes.

He looked up at the shining, ripe Bodhi fruit and said softly:

"Has the time come yet?"

"The Emperor has arrived."
