Chapter 1097 Big Project

The mayor of Aswang looked at the scene in front of him and he knew very well that this was not a solution.

If we continue to use such brute force, all we will end up doing is wasting their energy and everyone's time.

Moreover, work efficiency is reduced.

"How about this, unload half of the rocks on the ship onto another ship first, then try again after reducing the load."

A soaking wet man turned his head and looked left and right.

Obviously, they did not have the choice as the Lord of Aswan said.

"Lord City Lord, where should we unload? All the ships are packed to the brim. There's no extra space."

The mayor of Aswang looked around and remained speechless.

"Unload it right here!"

"I'll make arrangements after the ship to Philae Island returns!"

At noon in Aswan, the sun is scorching.

A huge linen cloth was spread out on the river bank, on which were placed a dozen stones ready to be transported to the island.

The craftsmen sat in a circle, drinking water and resting while discussing the transportation plan.

"How was the temple built in the past?"

A young man muttered to himself while looking at the temple ruins in the distance.

"How on earth did they manage to erect such heavy stone pillars?"

"Could it be that the gods have performed a miracle? Or have the gods used their divine power?"

When the craftsman heard this, he just glanced at the temple ruins.

"That was a long time ago."

"However, I heard that the former Pharaoh sent thousands, even tens of thousands, of Egyptians here at that time."

"They created this city and built that temple."

"It's just that our current number is only one-tenth of theirs, or even just a fraction of theirs."

"I looked around today and saw that there were only about a thousand people working."

"It would be almost impossible to repair the temple, especially in two weeks."

"We have to work day and night, even risking our lives, to succeed."

The mayor of Aswang listened to the conversation silently and took a deep breath.

Obviously, the task assigned by the Holy Pharaoh was far beyond his capabilities.

Even the mayor of Aswan had no idea why the Holy Pharaoh came here in person to supervise the preliminary construction work of the temple.

And just at this moment, a rumbling sound was heard in the distance.

Not in Aswan, of course, but in the direction of the upper Nile.

You can even see lightning flashing across the clouds.

The continuous rainfall upstream made the river more turbulent, and two of the anchor piles that originally secured the boat were washed away.

Several small boats loaded with tools were nearly washed away, but fortunately the craftsmen on the shore stopped them in time with long poles.

“The water is still rising!”

"It's estimated that in another hour, all the small boats will have to evacuate the shallows!"

The city lord stood on a makeshift wooden platform, looking at the busy crowd, and for a moment he didn't know which problem to deal with first.

Building materials were piling up but could not be brought ashore, the stones were too heavy to be properly moved, the craftsmen were exhausted, tools were in short supply, and time was running out.

Any one of these problems is enough to make people anxious, let alone when all of them explode at the same time.

"Reinforce these ropes!"

The city lord shouted instructions towards the unloading area, and soon, someone came to his side quickly.

"Lord City Lord! The limestone pile in the east is starting to collapse, and there are people working underneath!"

The mayor of Aswan rushed to the scene and saw that a pile of neatly stacked stones began to loosen, and the top stone had slipped down and landed at the feet of a craftsman.

The craftsman turned pale with fear, then turned around and left the area.

The lord of Aswan then pushed away the craftsmen who were watching around him.

"Everyone, step back!"

"You can't stack them this high anymore. Each stack must be no more than three layers!"

The person in charge of warehousing was scratching his head, looking embarrassed.

"But Lord City Lord, if every pile is this short, we won't be able to store so much material in this small space..."

"Look, there are many more behind..."

The mayor of Aswan did not care. He just told everyone that the most important thing now was to avoid situations that would endanger human lives.

As night falls, people who have worked all day return to the city one after another.

Only a few lonely oil lamps remained on the river bank, illuminating the mountains of building materials and the abandoned projects.

The city lord stood alone on the makeshift lookout tower, looking at the outline of Philae Island not far away.

Under the moonlight, the temple looked particularly desolate.

The scenes of the day replayed in his mind, and fatigue slowly surged up like a rising tide.

"The huge rocks can't be transported up there, and even if they were, they can't be installed properly."

“Even if it is installed, it is impossible to carry out detailed repairs due to the lack of professional craftsmen.”

“Even if there are enough craftsmen, it would be difficult to complete fine carving without specialized tools…”

The city lord muttered to himself and unbuttoned the collar of his outer robe. The slight cool breeze tonight made him shiver.

The experiences of that day kept replaying in his mind.

Shipwrecks, injured craftsmen, damaged materials, lost tools, coupled with constant emergencies and endless trivial problems, it was a complete mess.

"Two weeks..."

He murmured softly and took another deep breath.

Those huge stones, those precise structures, those carving and inlaying techniques that require high skills.
