Lin Ke just shook his head.
"There is no contradiction at all. Holy Egypt's position has always been consistent and has never changed."
"We don't want to see anyone's blood stain this sea red."
"I've already told Persia, and I might as well tell you now."
"The reason why Saint Egypt came here is to ensure the smooth progress of the World Conference."
"So, if Persia chooses peace, we will support peace."
"If they choose war, then they must bear the responsibility for it."
“The same is true for Greece.”
The diplomat fell silent.
The Holy Pharaoh's behavior pattern completely broke the rules he was familiar with.
This is not choosing sides in the traditional sense, but a more flexible and situation-oriented diplomatic strategy.
The diplomat looked at the army of Holy Egypt and then at the army of the Persian Empire.
Obviously, if they wanted to launch an attack on the Persian Empire now, they would have to face Holy Egypt and the Persian Empire at the same time.
This was unacceptable to the Greeks.
"I will convey your words to General Pericles faithfully, Holy Pharaoh."
The diplomat finally spoke and compromised.
"But I would like to remind you that the situation in the Mediterranean is much more complicated than you think."
"Your kindness today may become a fatal factor to Holy Egypt in the future."
Lin Ke just smiled and said, "It doesn't matter. History will prove whether my decision today was right or wrong."
"Look."
"Although the Persian Empire was powerful, it was not invincible."
"Although the Greek coalition forces were brave, they may have paid an unnecessary price."
"In a conflict that is likely to result in mutual destruction, why not choose a better solution?"
The diplomat paused, and finally nodded helplessly.
He no longer has a choice.
However, the confusion on his face did not diminish in the slightest.
"Holy Pharaoh, your style of doing things is indeed similar to what the King of Sparta said."
"But you stopped the Greek counterattack against Persia today, which made us lose an opportunity to weaken Persia's strength."
"Why on earth would you make such a choice?"
"You could have just stood by and let Persia and Greece fight it out."
"But you didn't choose any side, nor did you choose to watch the battle."
"You chose to negotiate, but you didn't want to make friends with either side?"
Lin Ke immediately understood what the other party said.
The core of the problem is already obvious.
That was the diplomat indirectly asking Lin Ke about his position.
Because, in the Mediterranean power ecology, a country's foreign policy is usually binary.
Simply put, either pro-Greek or pro-Persian.
There is no third way.
Lin Ke understood this way of thinking, but it didn't apply to his plan.
So he just smiled.
"My choice is based on a simple belief."
"It's easy to destroy, but hard to rebuild."
"Destroying an empire might satisfy the desire for revenge, but the resulting power vacuum and chaos would cause even greater suffering."
Similarly, Lin Ke's answer did not directly state his position, but provided a different perspective.
The diplomat's expression turned thoughtful, but confusion was still evident.
"But if you follow your logic, wouldn't the conflict between Greece and Persia be endless?"
"When one side is strong, the other will be weak; when one side attacks, the other will be forced to defend."
"Why not break this cycle today?"
Lin Ke smiled.
“When Persia and Greece realize that the gains from cooperation outweigh the gains from confrontation, they will naturally seek peace.”
"Why can't both parties be together at the same time?"
“Why can’t we grow strong together, grow weak together, and become a community of shared interests?”
"Or let me put it bluntly, the Greek envoy."
"I hope the World Conference will be a success."
"Because it provides a platform for all parties to sit down and negotiate."
"I'm tired of this life of fighting and killing."
"Why can't we work together on something else?"
The diplomat's expression became noticeably more complicated.
He even found it difficult to find the words to respond to Lin Ke.
On the one hand, he was curious about the ideas proposed by Lin Ke, but on the other hand, he was also aware of how unfeasible this idea was in real politics.
Not only that, in the eyes of diplomats, Mediterranean civilizations generally tend to stand on the side of Persia or Greece.
It is very rare to find a sect like Holy Egypt that exists alone.
"But Holy Pharaoh, what you did today is equivalent to offending both Persia and Greece at the same time."
"The Persians will resent you for revealing their plans, and we Greeks may blame you for preventing us from striking back."
"If Holy Egypt is isolated diplomatically in the future, even someone as powerful as you would find it difficult to bear it, wouldn't it?"
This question hits the nail on the head.
In reality, Lin Ke's behavior does seem unreasonable.
Any astute ruler would choose to maximize his own interests rather than act as a seemingly selfless mediator.
Of course, in Lin Ke's opinion, both Persia and Greece have reasons to be grateful to or blame Holy Egypt.
But for Lin Ke, whether it is gratitude or blame, it doesn’t matter to Saint Egypt.
At least for now, that's true.
