Chapter 33 The Merciful Holy Pharaoh

When Lin Ke noticed something wrong with the [Farmland], he immediately discovered the problem from the land information on the civilization panel.

The fields that were supposed to be green and lush became dull and lifeless, and the stable food output disappeared.

This situation was obviously unusual, as if some unexpected event had rendered this piece of [farmland] useless.

The event notification that popped up on the right side of the civilization panel further confirmed his guess: "[Farmland] was plundered!"

The prompt clearly points out the location and briefly explains the possible cause.

That's right, plunder.

This is because in Civilization VI, facilities or buildings that have been attacked will usually show up as looted or destroyed.

There is a clear difference between the two.

Plundering means that after enemy units plunder your facilities or buildings, the facilities will temporarily lose their functions, but they still exist and can be repaired.

For example, after a [Farm] is plundered, its output will temporarily be zero and the land will show a damaged state, but it can be repaired by using the [Builder] once, without the need for reconstruction.

Destruction is something completely different.

This means that the land returns to an undeveloped state, all bonuses are lost, and it needs to be completely rebuilt.

But this is usually actively operated by the player, that is, using the [Builder] to "destroy" to achieve this goal, but some special enemy units or events may also trigger this.

Therefore, Lin Ke judged that the enemy had destroyed part of the [farm], so the civilization panel gave a prompt.

At the same time, a guard reported to Linke that Kamul had urgent news to report to him.

"Call him up."

After a while, the door slowly opened, and Kamul lowered his head and walked slowly to the center of the hall.

He then knelt on his knees, raised his hands to his shoulders, and lowered his head towards Lin Ke.

"Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh!"

His voice was filled with self-blame and guilt, and he prostrated himself on the ground with solemn and pious movements, like an ancient Egyptian priest reporting his destiny to the gods.

Lin Ke knew that Kamul came to apologize just by observing his movements.

"speak."

“Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh,” Kamul said with a mixture of self-blame and guilt in his voice, “We found a group of Hebrews near the farm. They performed a kind of magic similar to sacrifice and tried to set the farmland on fire.”

"Although we were able to put out the fire, there was damage to several areas of the farm."

He paused for a moment and took a deep breath. "It was my negligence in deploying the defenses that led to the destruction of the farm given by the Holy Pharaoh. I have no face to face Your Majesty and am willing to die!"

Kamul fell to his knees with a thud, his head banging heavily on the cold, hard stone slab. The sound of his forehead hitting the ground echoed throughout the hall.

The people of Egypt have always regarded the will of the holy pharaoh as an oracle.

Any damage to the glory of the Holy Pharaoh was regarded as blasphemy against the gods.

For a prime minister like Kamul, poor management that resulted in damage to the farm was an unforgivable mistake.

"If it weren't for the foresight of His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh, who asked me to send more people to guard against it, I'm afraid that this farm and granary would have been reduced to ashes by now. I am ashamed of your grace, Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh. Please grant me death to correct the way of your subjects!"

His words were sonorous, but his tone was tragic and resolute, as if he was expressing his loyalty to the Holy Pharaoh with his life.

"Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh!" Kamul prostrated himself on the ground, his forehead hitting the ground and almost bleeding.

"Your Majesty, the Holy Pharaoh, I failed in my duty and dare not ask for forgiveness. I am willing to pay for this sin with my life! I hope my soul can float in the Styx, seek forgiveness from the gods, and protect the prosperity of Holy Egypt."

In ancient Egyptian tradition, food was regarded as a gift from the gods, and any mistake that damaged food was a direct offense to the will of the gods.

Such behavior was never tolerated under the pharaohs of the past.

Pharaohs often regarded their ministers who made mistakes as sinners who had angered the gods, and the punishment was not simply deprivation of their lives.

Those officials who were found guilty of dereliction of duty would not only be stripped of their official positions and family honors, but would also be sentenced to death, and then have their names removed and their existence erased from all records.

What's worse, the pharaohs sometimes ordered these offenders to be sent to the temple to do endless labor or even become sacrifices to atone their sins to the gods with their flesh and blood and souls.

All this is more terrible than simple death, because their names and memories will disappear forever, and no one will remember their dedication to Egypt.

That is why Kamul only asked for death.

However, Lin Ke did not immediately issue an order of punishment like previous pharaohs. He pondered for a moment, and slowly glanced at the ministers who were bowing their heads and keeping silent in the hall.

"Nantong." Lin Ke called in a low voice.

Nan Tong walked out from the side, bowed slightly, and waited for instructions.

"Go and find out the details and report to me immediately." Lin Ke said in a deep voice.

Nan Tong took the order and retreated, but Kamul remained kneeling with a thin layer of sweat on his forehead.

Seeing this, the other ministers all lowered their heads and remained silent.

They knew clearly that in ancient Egypt, if the national treasury was damaged and people's livelihood was in hardship due to the negligence of ministers, the consequences would be extremely serious.

However, despite their sympathy, no one dared to plead for Kamul. They could only pray silently, hoping that Kamul would not die a tragic death.

Time seemed to stand still. Everyone held their breath, lowered their heads, and waited for Lin Ke's decision.

At this time, Nan Tong walked in quickly and bowed, saying, "Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh, I have found out that the Hebrews did use unconventional sacrificial techniques, which led to this destruction."
