Chapter 386 Flood sweeps in!

Heavy rain poured down and dark clouds covered the city.

The city of Memphis was shrouded in darkness.

The Nile River was roaring. The once peaceful river had now turned into a raging monster.

It was roaring as it broke through the embankment, devouring everything it touched.

Next to the mayor of Memphis, a soldier was kneeling in front of him.

His battle robe was soaked by the rain.

"Lord City Lord!"

"The flood has submerged all the [farmland] built by Saint Pharaoh!"

“The flood levee was also breached!”

"According to your order, we have moved the people to the high ground in the city!"

When the city lord heard what the other party said, his face became a little serious: "How high has the river water risen?"

The soldier immediately replied: "We are approaching the city wall, Lord!"

"If no measures are taken, the flood will backflow into the city!"

The city lord quickly climbed up the city wall, and the heavy rain hit him "cracklingly".

Following the soldier's words, he looked into the distance.

There, thousands of waves rolled, mixed with reeds and sawdust.

The waters of the Nile River are roaring towards the city walls!

"Call the engineers and guards!"

"We must not let the flood water enter the city! Protect the people and the granary!"

"His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh has appointed me to this position. I will never let the city of Memphis be destroyed by natural disasters!"

"Hurry! Go right away!"

The city lord immediately gave orders and the soldiers immediately responded and left.

There were no house collapses in Memphis during this rainstorm.

Here, as in Cairo, all the houses have changed and become more solid.

However, although the houses were sturdy, they could not withstand the flood that flowed back into the city.

Therefore, what the city lord has to do now is to find ways to prevent the flood from entering the city.

Otherwise, it will be a catastrophe!

The surface of the river was carrying broken branches and debris, approaching step by step.

The cold wind was mixed with mist, and even the torches in the house were struggling in the strong wind.

The city lord stood on the city wall and commanded the troops.

Below, the people and soldiers were working hard to build fortifications under his orders.

“Try harder!”

“Push harder!”

Some people were carrying stones, and some were stacking wood piles.

Engineers directed the construction of new flood barriers, building barriers out of earth and rocks.

Another team dug ditches to try to divert the floodwaters that were beginning to flow into the city.

"How's the east dam?" the city lord shouted, his voice could actually drown out the wind and rain.

An engineer wiped the rain off his face and said anxiously, "Lord City Lord, we have reinforced two stone walls, but the water flow is too strong and the soil is unstable. I'm afraid they won't last long!"

The city lord just frowned and said, "Then add wooden stakes!"

"Tie it tightly with a rope and make sure to block the water flow!"

The engineer turned around and shouted, "Yes! City Lord!"

"Quick! Drive the stakes deeper! Get some more people to help!"

The city lord turned to a guard captain and asked, "Have all the people in the west retreated to the high ground?"

The captain of the guard replied: "Most of them have been evacuated."

"But some people were reluctant to leave their belongings and delayed their work. I have sent people to urge them."

Upon hearing this, the city lord's expression became even more solemn: "Tell them that if you lose your property, you can earn it again, but if you lose your life, you lose everything!"

"Evacuate immediately, don't leave anyone behind!"

"Yes!" The captain of the guard ran into the city in the rain.

The city lord looked around and his eyes fell on a young soldier who was struggling to carry stones and his steps were staggering.

The city lord walked over and patted him on the shoulder: "Go and take a rest over there!"

"If you're tired, go to the higher ground. Don't force yourself."

The soldier gritted his teeth and said, "My Lord, I can do it!"

"I will never leave until the flood recedes!"

The city lord nodded: "Good job! But don't be too stubborn, the most important moment has not yet arrived!"

However, the heavy rain showed no sign of abating.

The flood became more and more fierce at this time, and the turbid waves began to hit the newly built flood control dam.

However, these flood prevention measures do work.

The east side levee blocked most of the water flow, while the ditch also diverted some of the flood.

Seeing the effect, the people cheered and morale was boosted.

An old man shouted: "Lord City Lord! The flood has been stopped!"

Another person echoed: "We in Memphis are fine!"

"Great! The new house that Saint Pharaoh built for us can be preserved!"

The city lord stared at the rolling river in the distance, his brows still furrowed.

"We can't let down our guard yet!"

"The river is still rising, continue to reinforce the fortifications!"

An engineer came running over, panting: "Lord City Lord, the west ditch is blocked and the water is starting to flow back! What should we do now?"

The city lord made a prompt decision: "Take people to clear the blockage! Use wooden boards to block the backflow and dig a new ditch! Quick!"

"Yes!" The engineer took the order and left.

The city lord turned to the guard beside him and asked, "How is the granary?"

The guard immediately replied: "The granary is on higher ground and is safe for the time being."

“But if the water level rises again, it may be dangerous.”

The city lord ordered: "Send a team to the granary."

"Move the grain as high as possible and use stone slabs and fools near the granary to block the water flow. Don't let the flood destroy the stored grain!"

Not long after the cheers died down, a loud noise was heard from the east.

A section of the newly built embankment collapsed under the impact of the water.

The flood roared into the city walls like a wild horse.

The crowd's cheers turned to exclamations, and fear spread quickly.

The soldiers and civilians under the city wall stood there in a daze, looking at the raging flood, their expressions changing drastically.
