Chapter 633: Door of the Stone House

"It seems that the person who issued this order is one level higher than the general."

"That veteran is known for his bad temper. I have never seen him compromise on anything he opposes."

The soldiers said that they were very surprised by the general's reaction.

"I'm afraid that's true. If other generals had made such a suggestion, they would have been severely scolded by that old general."

“But why are they suddenly letting in refugees again?”

"What the old general said makes sense. Now that the Holy Egyptian Alliance has surrounded Jerusalem, it is too risky to take such a dangerous action at this critical juncture."

The soldier's words were recognized by everyone. At this moment, they saw more and more ordinary soldiers rushing towards a city gate.

The city gate was about to open, and they had to rush there to complete the task assigned to them by the officer.

But just as they were about to set off, the Hebrew soldiers saw something even stranger.

"etc."

"Look over there!"

Hearing one of the voices, everyone looked in the direction his finger was pointing.

Then they stared at a slowly moving team on the side of the street.

They recognized the origin of the styles of those clothes at a glance.

Those who are being escorted are the Holy Egyptians!

It was a team of fully armed Hebrew Empire soldiers, escorting a dozen emaciated foreign holy Egyptians.

"What the hell..."

One of the soldiers cursed under his breath, his fingers unconsciously stroking the hilt of his sword.

Those foreigners were terribly thin, with their ribs clearly visible beneath their pale skin, as if they would faint from malnutrition at any time.

They were barefoot, with blood-soaked hemp ropes wrapped around their ankles, leaving a dark red mark on the stone road with every step they took.

The most creepy thing is their eyes.

Their cloudy yellow pupils resembled those of jackals in the desert; they seemed full of hatred and despair towards this place.

"The gates of the royal capital have long been closed for enchantment."

The other soldier lowered his voice and continued.

"Where did these guys come from?"

Normally, the Hebrew capital is now heavily guarded, the gates are tightly closed, and the elites are all dispersed to various important areas of the capital.

Even if there were foreign invasions, they would have been shot into sieves by archers on the city walls or turned into ashes by powerful magicians.

Simply put, it was impossible for them to get close to the royal capital.

What's more, these prisoners seemed to have survived some kind of inhuman torture for too long.

So, it was obvious that they were not invaders who had just broken through the defense line.

These foreigners seemed to have been imprisoned in the city a long time ago.

Or, they were transported from other cities occupied by the Hebrew Empire and had been in the royal capital for some time.

The team slowly crossed the street and turned north of the city.

The north of the city is where the officer just mentioned the refugees will eventually go.

The soldiers exchanged glances and followed in tacit understanding.

Because, ever since the Supreme Ruler King "disappeared", strange rumors have always appeared in the city.

Some people have seen floating people, and others have seen flashes of what looked like demons with horns.

But these have not been confirmed by the Empire, they are just rumors.

But the soldiers had long known that something unusual had occurred in the royal capital, and even friction had arisen among the generals’ armies.

So, after seeing those foreigners, they immediately realized that things were not simple.

After all, who would keep the Holy Egyptians and refugees together at this time?

This doesn't make any sense at all.

It was as if the refugees and the holy Egyptians were needed to accomplish something.

So the Hebrew soldiers followed the team, moving close to the wall, and wrapping the bronze plates on their armor with cloth strips to avoid making any noise as they followed.

The further north you go, the quieter the streets become.

The guards who were supposed to be patrolling were nowhere to be seen, and even the windows of the houses were nailed shut with boards.

There was a strange smell in the air, like rotten herbs mixed with rust, which made people feel a little uncomfortable.

"Something's wrong."

"It seems like this area has been cordoned off."

The leading soldier suddenly stopped and pointed to the ground.

Dark red liquid seeped out from the cracks in the stone road.

Although it has dried and turned black, you can still vaguely see that it is blood.

What's even more strange is that the bloodstains were not splashed randomly, but formed a certain regular pattern.

It was like a huge spider web, extending from under their feet to the buildings in the distance.

A stone house.

The stone house leads to a large prison underground.

Although the low stone house was inconspicuous, there were dozens of figures in black robes standing at the door.

Even at a distance, the soldiers could feel the oppressive feeling emanating from the two men.

Obviously, they are not ordinary people.

As the escort team approached, the man in black robe raised his head slightly.

There was a faint glow on their faces, which was a sign that appeared when the magic power of the Ultimate Mage was full.

"It's the Ultimate Magician..."

"They are actually in charge of defense here?"

Someone gasped.

The soldiers froze in place.

Logically speaking, these ultimate great magicians should stay on the city walls so that they can cast devastating spells when defending the royal capital.

But now, there are at least a dozen such monsters gathered around this inconspicuous stone house.

This is obviously not common sense.

Even more terrifying is the stone house itself.

When the foreign prisoners, the holy Egyptians, were brought in, a strange green light leaked out from the open door.

The light twisted as if it had life, leaving an afterimage in the air that lingered for a long time.

At some point, the soldiers seemed to hear whispers.

It was not human language, but a sticky, echoing hiss, like the sound of countless insect legs rubbing against shells.

"We should go now."

The leading soldier's voice trembled. They knew very well that it was some kind of powerful magic.

It was magic beyond their understanding.

They couldn't go any further, otherwise they might be killed.

After they retreated to a safe distance, they finally dared to talk.

"Those foreigners..."

A young soldier swallowed.

"They are not from out of town at all."

The older soldier nodded, his face grim. “The dungeon has been expanded three times recently, but the prisoners sent in have never been seen coming out.”

"From what happened just now, it seems that the Empire is performing some kind of ritual in the prison?"

"Could those be offerings to the gods?"

As the soldiers talked, they fell into silence again.
