"Hmm? What is this?"
An armed man stopped just a few meters from Elisha.
He narrowed his eyes slightly and raised the torch in his hand.
"There are footprints here! We found him!"
"He went that way!"
Apparently, they mistook the bloodstains left on Elisha's path as the direction the child had escaped.
"I'll go chase that brat, you go inform the boss and the others!"
Seeing that the man was hanging around near him and might discover his hiding place at any time, Elisha's mind went blank.
At the critical moment, a horse's neighing suddenly came from the distance.
"What's going on?"
The robber ran towards his companions and asked, "Someone stole the horse?"
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Elisha quietly changed his position and climbed behind a higher rock.
He breathed a sigh of relief only after those people chased the child away. However, he found that his back was soaked with cold sweat.
Although the child was safe for the time being, Elisha was filled with worry as he looked in the direction where the pursuers disappeared.
But right now, protecting himself is the most important thing, and he cannot act rashly.
Only after the noise faded away did Elisha set out on his journey again.
He moved more cautiously than before, stopping every few steps to listen.
However, the misfortune did not end there.
As soon as he climbed over a small ridge, he saw a dozen or so horsemen coming towards him on the road ahead.
They were wearing tattered cloaks and had various weapons hanging around their waists. It was obvious that they were not good people.
Elisha immediately dropped to the ground and crawled back under a protruding rock.
The horse team was getting closer and closer. Leading the team was a one-eyed man who was shouting something loudly.
"Search carefully! That little bastard can't get far!"
"His whole family couldn't take the beating, and not a single one of them survived. We can only rely on selling this kid for a good price!"
"Search for me! Keep looking!"
The sound of horse hooves shook the ground and raised dust.
Elisha covered his mouth tightly, afraid of making any sound.
His fingers were cut by the sharp edge of the rock and blood oozed out, but he didn't care.
However, the cavalry stopped at the foot of the hill where he was hiding.
Elisha's heart sank, because that meant they were going to search here!
"Spread out and search!"
The one-eyed dragon ordered sharply, "That kid must be hiding in this area!"
"Catch him, and I'll reward you handsomely!"
The armed cavalry scattered and began a carpet search.
Elisha felt a chill run through his bones, because, given his position, it was only a matter of time before he was discovered, so he had to move.
He looked around quietly and found a crooked tree about ten meters to the left. The roots formed a natural groove, which might provide better shelter.
But to get there, one must cross an unobstructed slope.
Elisha took a deep breath and counted silently in his mind.
one two three!
He suddenly jumped out of his hiding place and ran towards the tree like a nimble goat.
At the same time, a cry of surprise came from behind him.
“There!”
"The kid ran to the left!"
"Catch him!"
There was a thud of horse hooves, and at least three cavalrymen charged towards him.
Elisha didn't dare look back and just ran as fast as he could.
His lungs burned and his legs trembled from the steep mountain road, but the instinct for survival drove him to move forward.
A rough voice came from behind: "Stop it, you little bastard!"
Elisha didn't have time to think and jumped instinctively.
His body drew an arc and fell into a dry ravine in front.
When he landed, he felt a sharp pain in his right ankle, but he didn't care about that and immediately crawled into the depths of the ravine.
"Damn kid!"
The one-eyed man roared, and his horse paced back and forth at the edge of the ditch, unable to get down and give chase.
"Surround this ditch! He can't get away!"
Elisha hid behind a large rock and observed the situation outside through the crack.
A dozen cavalrymen were scattered on both sides of the ravine, looking for possible crossing points.
As time passed, his situation became more and more dangerous.
Just when he was at a loss, a louder noise came from the distance.
Immediately afterwards, several frightened horse neighs and human shouts were heard from the opposite side of the ditch.
"They encountered soldiers returning from patrol in Hebron!"
"Hurry! We must go over and provide support immediately!"
"This is the order from the chief!"
The cavalrymen were thrown into chaos and immediately rode away.
Elisha took the opportunity to crawl forward and climb deeper.
After about a quarter of an hour, the noise gradually faded away and finally returned to silence.
The boy lay exhausted in the dry riverbed, gasping for breath.
He suffered scrapes on his knees and hands, and severe pain in his ankles, but managed to survive.
So he continued to take steps forward, but his foot slipped and his head hit the stone hard.
But in the blink of an eye, Elisha fainted.
I don’t know how long it took, but when Elisha woke up and looked up at the sky, he realized that it was already morning without him realizing it.
The sun was high in the sky and there was no one around.
Elisha struggled to climb up the river bank and regain his bearings.
The main road should be not far away.
He limped forward, using a broken branch as a crutch.
Finally, after turning a corner, the wide official road appeared before our eyes.
However, the scene before him shocked him.
The road was covered with ruts and hoof prints, some of which were still fresh, but he could clearly see that the soil had been repeatedly rolled into a hard road surface.
The grass beside the road was trampled into pieces, and a few tattered tent strips could be seen hanging on the thorns and fluttering in the wind.
When Elisha looked at these traces, he felt hopeless.
Because this means that the Holy Egyptian Alliance army has left.
This means that if he still wants to find His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh, he must follow this route and catch up with the other party at a speed several times faster than the Holy Egyptian Alliance Army.
But Elisha knew very well that it was simply a fantasy and he could not catch up with the army of the Holy Egyptian Alliance.
"Bang!"
He sat down on the ground, but he didn't expect that by the time he fell and fainted, the Holy Egyptian Alliance army had already left here.
But at this moment, he heard bursts of sounds coming from afar.
"Look! That kid is there!"
"Catch him!"
......
The other side.
"Sir, this is it."
Nan Tong opened the door to the basement, and below was a mixed smell of several body odors.
"Sir, please wait here for a moment. I will go down and check it out."
Of course, with Lin Ke's identity, he cannot enter such a place.
Nan Tong glanced at the people around him, his brows slightly furrowed.
"Where's Elisha?"
"Where did he go?"
