The stars were dim on the way out of the house.
On the streets of Hebron, there was almost no sound except the occasional patrolling footsteps of armed men.
Lin Ke and his group walked in the shadows. They tried to avoid the well-lit main roads and chose to move forward in the winding alleys.
Before setting off, they found a small black cloak for Elisha that was just enough to cover his hair and the scars on his body.
Otherwise, the shocking marks on Elisha's body would definitely attract the attention of the enemy.
"Put on your hat, and whatever happens, just stay close behind me."
"Do you understand?"
Lin Ke looked back at Elisha.
Elisha nodded solemnly and pulled the hood of his cloak down, covering half of his face.
His heart was beating like a drum. On the one hand, it was because he saw His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh again.
On the other hand, he could already see the city gate not far away.
As long as they passed there, they were truly out of danger.
The two surrendered cavalrymen acted as guides and walked at the front of the team.
They are familiar with the patrol patterns and guard deployments in the city, and can always guide everyone to avoid danger at critical moments.
"There's a patrol around the corner ahead. We need to wait until they leave before we pass."
The cavalryman spoke in a low voice, and everyone held their breath and waited quietly in the shadow of a corner.
Soon, the patrol team's footsteps gradually faded away. Lin Ke made a gesture to move forward, and the team continued to slide silently to the next block.
"The north gate is only three hundred steps ahead. We are almost there."
The cavalry pointed toward a faint torchlight in the distance.
"As long as we pass the city gate inspection, we will be safe."
After saying this, the two sweaty cavalrymen showed a slightly relaxed look.
Of course, unlike Lin Ke, they were very afraid of these armed men in the city.
Elisha followed the guidance and saw that the outline of the city gate became more like a star.
The dawn of victory seems to be just around the corner!
His heartbeat grew more intense, and his hands clenched and unclenched involuntarily.
However, things don't always go smoothly.
Just when they were less than a hundred steps away from the city gate, a series of footsteps came from the side.
Before everyone could react, a group of people appeared at the intersection.
There were still a few drops of sweat on the side of their faces, and even the horses were panting.
They stared at where Lin Ke and his group were.
"Stop! Who is leaving the city?"
The leader was a wealthy man dressed in gorgeous brocade robes, about forty years old, with a hooked nose and narrow eyes that showed shrewdness and arrogance.
He rode on a white horse, looking down at everyone.
Behind him, eight or nine servants held torches, illuminating the surroundings in every detail.
Beside him were a dozen armed men.
The rich man's eyes swept across everyone's faces one by one, and finally fell on Lin Ke.
"My lord, they are the chief forgers."
One of the armed men spoke, but his eyes were evasive when he looked at Lin Ke and others.
"I wonder where the Chief Blacksmith is going?"
The wealthy man spoke softly, and Lin Ke bowed calmly.
"I think this lord should be aware that I want to take my nephew to recuperate."
Elisha subconsciously took a step back, but the other party keenly caught this subtle movement.
The rich man just continued to speak.
"Why, this young man doesn't want to see me?"
"I just bought a young slave from the quartermaster's office yesterday."
"But when I went to see him today, I was told that he had been taken away by the chief blacksmith's men."
"Could it be... this young man is your nephew?"
Lin Ke nodded slightly.
"Of course, Elisha, take off the veil."
Elisha heard Lin Ke's words and just did as he was told. He soon revealed his head.
One of his eyes was slightly swollen, and his face had many red and swollen marks, as well as a lot of blood scabs.
"It's him indeed."
When the rich man saw Elisha, he kept moving closer to him and even stretched out a hand towards him as if to touch his hair.
Nan Tong immediately stepped forward and stood in front of Elisha. "Your Excellency's behavior is too rude. This is our master's nephew. How can you touch him as you please?"
The wealthy man raised his eyebrows and said, "Impertinent?"
"I have the right to dispose of the property I purchased."
"This young man is clearly the slave I purchased yesterday. How could you take him away without permission?"
"Your Excellency's actions are not in accordance with the rules."
Nan Tong pretended to be furious when he heard this: "Slave? That's ridiculous! What evidence do you have?"
The wealthy man pulled out a piece of parchment from his bosom. "This is the contract, stamped with the chief's seal. It states in black and white that I purchase a young slave for two gold coins."
After these words were spoken, the armed men lowered their heads even more.
That was a lot of money, and they got a piece of it.
Nan Tong snatched the contract and examined it carefully: "Even so, it doesn't prove that this child is the slave you bought!"
The wealthy man spoke slowly, "Humph! Why do you have to deceive yourself, sir?"
"I know that this young man is from City Lord David..."
He didn't finish what he was saying, but just paused and continued to raise his head slightly.
"In short, his value far exceeds that of an ordinary slave. I spent a huge sum of money to get him. How can you just take him away like this?"
Nan Tong pointed at the scars on Elisha's body indignantly and said, "Look carefully at this! He's not a slave, he's the master's nephew!"
