Chapter 10 Amy
"Hello! Are you the new alchemy apprentice? Me too!"
Benjamin frowned slightly, but quickly regained his composure.
He looked up and saw a girl with curly brown hair and a bright smile standing at his desk.
Her eyes are very smart and she seems to be curious about everything around her.
"Hello." Benjamin responded, looking at her calmly.
The girl's clothes were not luxurious, but they were clean and tidy.
He looked a little tired, probably because he had tried basic meditation several times and failed, but the vitality on his face overwhelmed the weariness.
As for the mental fluctuations… well, a fifth-level talent was considered upper-middle level among the apprentices he had scanned.
"Look at your badge, it's the crucible symbol of the alchemy department! That's great, I finally meet my peers!" The girl sat down in the empty seat opposite him without any restraint.
Her plate was piled high with a wide variety of food, and you could tell she had a big appetite.
"My name is Amy! Amy Graybird!" She introduced herself, then winked and held out her hand. "What's your name? You look lonely sitting here alone."
Benjamin became even more alert.
In this unfamiliar place, a talented apprentice from the same class came over to talk to me, and his attitude was so warm and direct...
It's so suspicious.
With his keen insight as a monk, he also noticed the seemingly casual but scrutinizing look in Amy's eyes.
"Probing? To gather intelligence, or for some other purpose?" Benjamin made an instant judgment in his mind.
"Jereming." He responded briefly, without further reaction.
"Jeremy, nice to meet you!" Amy seemed oblivious to his indifference and smiled more sincerely. "I'm so exhausted today, especially meditating! Did you draw patterns in your spiritual sea? Oh my god, the patterns are so intricate! I feel like my spiritual power is like a ball of noodles, I can't knead it into shape, and it's backfired so many times that my head is about to explode!"
As she spoke, she picked up a piece of barbecue and devoured it. Although she seemed to have no manners at all, one could feel her sincerity. She seemed to be a carefree, cheerful and innocent person.
“…I don’t believe it!”
Benjamin lowered his eyes and ate the food in front of him seemingly nonchalantly, but he sneered in his heart.
There are only three types of apprentices who can still choose the logistics department despite the propaganda of the combat department: smart people who discovered the problem, those whose grandparents and parents were also wizards and knew the situation here in advance, and useless people who gave up on themselves.
Since meditation failed, it means that the other party is not a descendant of a wizard. Judging from his cheerful personality, he is not a self-deprecating loser. So there is only one possibility left.
Such a smart person suddenly approached me, she must have her own purpose, and what she showed now was just her disguise.
Amy was still rambling on about her failed meditation, and Benjamin listened calmly, analyzing the situation in his mind.
"No, she is not testing the results and state of my meditation." Benjamin thought.
Thinking about the fact that he was the apprentice who had failed in his meditation, and that he must be pale and exhausted, an idea popped up in his mind while listening to the other party's words:
"Is she trying to resonate with others through the same experiences... just trying to build relationships?"
After thinking about it, Jie Ming decided to give it a try. He nodded slightly, with an expression of approval on his face: "It is indeed difficult. I have tried several times."
"Yeah! It's too difficult! Many of my classmates are just like me. They've failed so many times that their heads are about to explode." Amy continued to chat casually while chewing her food. "But there are a few talented ones who seem to have found a way. One of them is our alchemy apprentice."
"Oh? Really?" Benjamin expressed his amazement appropriately. "You've gotten started so quickly? You're truly a genius! It seems alchemy is truly teeming with talented individuals."
"It seems I haven't gotten started yet. I've only successfully carved the first part of the pattern."
"That's quite impressive. I'm really far behind in comparison."
"It's not that exaggerated actually. I heard that the man is a nobleman and his family has a wizarding background. He must have received relevant training in advance."
Amy continued to introduce enthusiastically: "And you are also very good, Benjamin. You should be the most talented among the freshmen in alchemy this year."
"Haha, thanks for the compliment." Benjamin laughed shyly. "But there aren't many new students in Alchemy this year, right?"
He was now certain that the girl in front of him had come to see him on purpose. After all, apart from her name, she had not revealed any other information.
Since the other party knew his talent level, it meant that he knew a lot about it, so Benjamin just tried to test him a little.
"Hehe, there are indeed only three of us, but you are indeed the most talented among us three." Amy smiled awkwardly.
"You seem to know a lot. You know so much on your first day here?" Benjamin asked casually.
Amy was slightly taken aback by his question, but she still took a bite of the barbecue and narrowed her eyes in satisfaction. "Hey, I might not be good at other things, but I do have some talent for making friends and chatting."
She stuck out her tongue playfully, but her tone was filled with a subtle sense of pride. "Everyone in the cafeteria isn't feeling well, so it's easier to chat. And I also struck up conversations with quite a few people while waiting in line for the talent assessment... After all, we're all new here, so having more friends means more opportunities."
Hearing Amy explain her situation so generously, Jie Ming sighed in his heart: "It's exposed."
Of course, it doesn’t mean that his identity as a cultivator was exposed, but that his stupid behavior just now was exposed.
He asked a little too hastily and directly pointed out the core of the other person's problem, so Amy discovered something was wrong.
However, Amy was just as she said, very good at communicating with others. Even when her mistakes were exposed, she did not feel embarrassed at all. She even quickly adjusted her communication strategy and spoke frankly and decisively.
In this way, even though he knew that she approached him with a purpose, Benjamin did not feel too disgusted.
After all, her purpose is just as she said, more friends, more paths.
We are all newcomers now, so there are no conflicts. We even have common interests and goals because we will all participate in military service in the future.
And Amy has just demonstrated her "value". At least this ability to obtain intelligence is indeed very important to Benjamin at this stage.
With these thoughts in mind, Jieming raised his head and extended his hand again with a serious expression: "Let me introduce myself again, Jieming."
Amy was even happier after receiving Benjamin's affirmation, her eyes curved with smile: "Amy."
