Chapter 51 Ambush
Thousands of wizard apprentices from the Norn Academy, carrying with them the blind confidence brought about by their previous false victory, poured into the valley where intelligence pointed out the "indigenous chief" was located.
Their eyes were shining with desire for high scores and glorious military exploits, and they were completely unaware that they were walking headfirst into a trap set by the hunters.
The dense swarm of magical beasts outside the valley had no effect on the group of wizard apprentices. They quickly crossed various traps and came into the valley.
Deep in the valley, several indigenous "chiefs" wearing fine armor and a small but fully armed army of extraordinary people behind them appeared in the apprentices' sight.
"There are enemies! They must be the leaders mentioned in the intelligence!"
"Be careful around you, there might be an ambush. Activate your shield first just in case!"
"Go! Kill those leaders!"
The apprentices roared with excitement and, led by Augusta and Horn, charged towards the enemy fiercely.
Lightning flashed on Augusta's body, as fast as lightning, and the rocks under Horn's feet rolled like walking waves.
Other apprentices also cast spells, and various elemental torrents gathered in the valley, aiming at the enemies not far away.
However, just as the two armies were about to collide, something strange happened!
Rustle...
Countless dark shadows suddenly appeared on the originally silent hillside.
It was a group of indigenous warriors so large that it was suffocating. They were dressed in various animal skins or grass leaves, and held longbows or spears in their hands.
These soldiers covered their bodies with animal skins and grass leaves, and used the power of priests and shamans to restrain the fluctuations of life, hiding themselves perfectly and deceiving the wizard apprentices' not-so-sophisticated reconnaissance.
"Shoot!"
Accompanied by a low roar of ancient shamanic spells, tens of thousands of indigenous warriors ambushed on the hillside simultaneously tightened their longbows.
For a moment, arrows rained down like dense rain on the group of wizard apprentices in the valley!
These were no ordinary arrows; the natives had put up all the property they could find for this battle.
Each arrow is attached with spells and extraordinary powers strengthened by shamans and priests. The arrowheads themselves are made of various special minerals or biological materials, and have the effect of breaking through energy protection.
In the past, such magic-destroying arrows only appeared in the hands of the kingdom's most elite knights as trump cards, but now in the coalition forces ambushing in the valley, even ordinary soldiers carry several magic-destroying arrows.
For a moment, there was a burst of sounds of breaking air, crashing, and tearing.
The shields of the wizard apprentices became fragile under the rain of arrows and shattered one after another.
Some apprentices even failed to react in time and were pierced through the body by arrows, falling in a pool of blood.
Even the apprentices who had activated their protective magical devices felt a powerful force coming through the shield, which shocked their mental power and caused their formation to become disrupted.
The traps set by the natives were quite simple, just the most crude ambush.
However, the far greater than expected number of troops, coupled with the completely unexpected attack, produced an effect beyond imagination.
The apprentices who originally thought they were fully prepared were instantly put at a huge disadvantage.
"Spread out! Seek cover!"
"Damn it! Why are there so many people?!"
"Retreat! Get out of here!"
Without unified command, the apprentices fled in panic, trying to escape the range of the rain of arrows.
"My flying skills...it's a no-fly zone again. When was it set up? It clearly wasn't there when we entered the valley before!"
"Asshole! Why is the range of this space confinement so large?!"
Cries of despair rang out one after another.
After being ambushed many times, the apprentices have basically figured out that the range of the space confinement is less than fifty meters. As long as they break through this distance, they can escape from the battlefield.
But in this valley, the spatial confinement set up by Priest Osvaldo at the cost of overdrawing his own strength has a diameter of more than a terrifying one kilometer.
In addition, the shamans had exhausted all their knowledge and collections, and even sacrificed their ancestral totems to instantly set up a super-wide no-fly zone, which temporarily trapped the apprentices here.
The apprentices' predictions were correct. There would indeed be traps, and there would indeed be various no-fly zones and space restrictions.
However, the intelligence gathered from previous battles with the natives led them to greatly misjudge the danger level of the trap.
There was no way to go up to heaven and no door to enter the earth. For a time, the apprentices were completely in despair.
Even Augusta and Horn, the two most dazzling talents, seemed powerless in the face of this sudden disadvantage.
Based on the intelligence collected previously, the Aboriginal coalition made various targeted preparations.
A group of elite teams, wearing special armor and blessed with shamanic curses, specifically entangled the extremely fast Augusta, weakening the power of her lightning and limiting her mobility.
Another group of natives, armed with armor-piercing weapons and possessing special spells, held on to Horn tightly, constantly consuming his proud defense.
The apprentices' formation collapsed completely. They were defeated under the double blow of arrow rain and melee natives rushing down the mountain. The ground of the valley was stained red with blood.
…
…
A temporary command post above the valley.
Several leaders of the indigenous coalition were excitedly looking at the wizards below who were like a flock of slaughtered sheep.
Priest Osvaldo's face was as pale as paper, and his body was visibly weak. He was gasping for breath, and cold sweat streamed down his forehead. The price he paid for setting up such a large-scale spatial confinement was extremely huge, almost exhausting all his vitality and the power bestowed by the gods.
"Success! We did it!" The young Knight Commander's eyes flashed with fanaticism.
"These stupid outsiders! They think they can trample on our world at will!" The shaman leader also showed a ferocious smile.
People looked at Osvaldo with gratitude.
Although he paid a heavy price, the ultra-large-scale spatial confinement he performed was the key to this victory.
"Master Osvaldo, thank you for your hard work!"
"Thanks to you, we can catch these abominable wizards in one fell swoop!"
Osvaldo shook his head weakly, said nothing, and just looked down quietly.
The young Knight Commander no longer hesitated. He shouted his orders to his subordinates, "Attack with all your strength! Don't give them any chance to breathe! Crush them!"
Nearly ten thousand of the most elite Aboriginal warriors rushed down the hillside like a tide and engaged in a bloody battle with the remaining apprentices in the valley.
Relying on the huge rock fortress that Horn built with witchcraft, some wizard apprentices are making a final desperate resistance, but that is just a desperate fight of trapped beasts. They have no way to retreat.
