Chapter 016: Finally Became a Top Student
Thanks to Chris's prank, the fairy cubs sped up and finally arrived at the classroom on time. Leah, who had just sat down panting and taught them music, walked in on time.
Leah is a female fairy with beautiful chestnut hair tied into a long ponytail. She wears a light yellow straight dress and flutters her translucent butterfly wings as she gracefully flies to the front of the podium.
Seeing the twenty-five sweaty goblin cubs, she plucked the small harp in her arms and smiled warmly: "Good afternoon, my little cuties. My name is Leah, and I'm your music teacher."
The cubs are basically all community cows, and they speak without any fear.
"Good afternoon, Leah!"
"What kind of music do you want to learn? Singing?"
"I want to learn the harp, is that okay?"
"Sit taught us to sing... like this... The dwarves and goblins fought every day. The goblins stole the dwarves' treasures, the dwarves smashed down the goblin's door with hammers, and the goblins, angry, chiseled the dwarfs' ground..."
One of the cubs started singing a Sittish nursery rhyme, and the others followed suit, until soon all the cubs were singing.
Leah plucked the five-stringed harp in her arms, easily following the melody and accompanying the cubs.
Shu Li didn't want to sing at first because he was not familiar with the song, but the other cubs started singing, and it would feel a bit out of place if he didn't sing.
So, he reluctantly took out his "Quick Reference Guide", found the lip-synced lyrics of "Dwarves and Goblins", and sang along quietly.
When the song ended, the cubs were still not satisfied. Leah put down her harp and clapped her hands.
“You sang beautifully!”
The little cubs puffed out their chests proudly, their faces all grinning.
After clapping, Leah patiently explained, "Sit will be your first teacher, primarily teaching language and writing. Music will be my responsibility from now on. I will teach you how to sing poetry, play instruments, and compose music."
"Wow, it looks so complicated!" Angel muttered with a frown on his face.
"Yeah!" Disio nodded in agreement.
Shu Li's eyes were as bright as light bulbs.
After crossing into another world, music was the only thing that felt familiar to him.
The music of the other world was similar to that of his original world, both having seven basic syllables. Although singing in Elvish was quite difficult, humming the tune was no problem at all.
The classroom was noisy, so Leah played a lyrical piece of music to soothe the cubs.
The cubs gradually quieted down, and she spoke slowly, "In an age without written language, the elves created music and poetry to pass on their history and culture. Later, a female elf named Desna, while traveling across the continent, fell in love with a smart and handsome human man and taught him music and poetry. From then on, the continent's first bard was born."
"Music brings joy, and poetry inspires longing. Wherever bards go, they are warmly welcomed. Even today, bards still enjoy a high status. They are not bound by any nationality and can travel freely across the continent. They are beloved guests of the nobility. Whenever nobles hold banquets, they invite bards to perform elven poetry at the banquet."
Leah played the harp and told the origins of music and poetry, and the cubs listened with great interest.
"Why are we playing elven poetry?" Budno asked, puzzled. "Don't humans have their own poetry?"
Leah played a few brisk syllables, her deep blue eyes as deep as a pool of water.
"Because... there is magic in the poetry of the elves."
"Magic?" The cubs were confused.
Leah nodded. "Yes, most elven poems contain magic. Some can soothe the mind and help you sleep, some can cure heart disease, and some can summon elemental spirits. Of course—"
Her tone suddenly changed, she lowered her voice and said seriously: "Can also fight and kill."
"Huh?" The cubs widened their eyes. "Wow... so awesome!"
Shu Li scribbled furiously over the table, recording Leah's words in Chinese characters. He quickly translated any words or sentences he didn't understand into phonetic notation, marking them in brackets. He would ask the other cubs after class. If even the other cubs didn't understand, he would ask the adult goblins.
Leah glanced in Shu Li's direction and continued, "A bard can only sing fifty elven poems in his lifetime. Otherwise, the magic will backfire and his life will be in danger."
"Humans are so fragile!" Angel sighed childishly.
Shu Li agreed.
For humans in the other world, not only will playing the legendary harp shorten their lifespan, but even singing elf poems will shorten their lifespan. How miserable!
Leah shook her head gently: "When you grow up and travel to the mainland and see more humans, you won't think so anymore."
There are many outstanding and top-notch people among humans.
By learning magic, they changed their short-lived fate and became the best on the continent.
Moreover, humans are generally insidious, cunning, selfish, and often do bad things that harm other races.
For example, some nobles took pleasure in raising goblins to satisfy their perverted desires, while evil hunters risked their lives to enter the goblin forest, cruelly hunting down goblins and bringing them to the human world to auction for huge profits.
The fairy cubs in front of her were just over a hundred days old and were too young. Leah couldn't tell them about the cruel side of humans for the time being, so as to avoid leaving psychological trauma and affecting their healthy growth.
Shu Li stopped recording and seemed to be thinking about something.
Leah seemed to have something else in mind.
You are being so ambiguous. Do you have any concerns?
Could it be that humans had done something cruel to elves or fairies in the past that made her so secretive? Otherwise, why did the Elf King close the Fairy Forest and permanently refuse entry to outsiders?
"Okay, that's enough of the story for now. It's time to officially start the class." Leah placed the harp on the table and said loudly, "All the little cuties, please fly into the air."
The cubs were confused when they heard this request, but they still did it obediently.
"Buzz buzz buzz--" is the sound of many wings vibrating.
All the fairy cubs left their desks and chairs and flew into the air. A few naughty cubs climbed onto the beams at the top of the classroom and played around.
Leah raised her hand and chanted a simple spell.
In an instant, all the tables moved automatically to both sides of the classroom as if alive, and were neatly placed against the wall, leaving the chairs in their original places.
"Wow~~" the cubs exclaimed in unison.
Shu Li saw his desk and his notebook moving to the corner, and he quickly flew over to rescue it.
That was close!
The notebook was almost crushed by another table.
He stuffed the notebook back into his waist bag. The bag was bulging, and it was a bit tight to fit five notebooks.
Maybe I should get myself a big shoulder bag just for the things I carry with me.
As for the storage ring on his right index finger, he had to return it to the Elf King and could no longer use it at will.
Items must be returned to their original owner in their original condition.
Leah finished moving the table with magic and clapped her hands, signaling the cubs to return to their seats.
The cubs all landed and looked at Leah curiously, anticipating her next move.
Being stared at intently by twenty-five pairs of innocent big eyes, Leah smiled mysteriously, raised her right hand to reveal the gold bracelet on her wrist, and shook it gently. Many points of light jumped out of the gold bracelet, dispersed, and flew in front of each cub.
Just as the cubs were about to reach out and grab the spots of light, they turned into small and exquisite five-stringed harps.
“Wow wow wow—”
"It's a harp!"
"Great! This harp is so small that I can hold it in one hand!"
"Leah, Leah, is this the harp that was given to us?"
"I like it so much, wow~"
"Don't bite it, idiot, it will break!"
The cubs held their new harp, unable to let it go, their fingers plucking the strings, making clear sounds. However, when more than 20 cubs plucked the harp at the same time, it was not beautiful music, but a terrible noise.
White-haired and Red-haired played without any order, and Shu Li wanted to cover his ears, but he had no choice but to hold the harp with his hands free.
The five-string harp, as the name suggests, has only five strings and five syllables. It is generally used to play simple songs and is suitable for beginners.
The more strings a harp has, the larger it is.
The cubs have short little fingers, which naturally gives them the smallest one-handed harps.
As a music student, Shu Li majored in violin and also had some experience in other string instruments. She can play the 47-string harp.
However, the fairy harp in his hand was obviously different from the harp he was familiar with.
In addition to having vertical strings, there is no pedal to change the treble, and there are two small buttons on the guitar body.
Shu Li tried to press the keys and found that the first and second strings were slightly lit. When he plucked them with his fingers, two other syllables were produced.
I see.
These two small buttons are diacritical keys.
No wonder Sit was able to play a complete seven-note music score when using a five-string harp.
It would be easy if you could play the seventh note.
Shu Li ignored the chaotic piano sounds around him, got into position, plucked the strings with his fingers, and played the introductory classic piece that every music student must learn.
After Leah gave each cub a harp, she let them play with it and did not stop them even though they made a lot of noise.
The fairies do not restrict the interests and hobbies of the cubs. They always believe in learning through playing and playing through learning, and then slowly explore the talents of each cub.
Suddenly, Leah's ears flickered, and she heard a harmonious song amid the chaotic piano sounds.
Following the notes, she saw the blond kid sitting in the back row, playing the piano with a focused expression. His fingering seemed childish, but he accurately found the corresponding strings and even knew how to press the octave key to change the pitch of the first and second strings.
It's Sperian.
Leah looked at the blond cub with piercing eyes.
She might not be able to call out the names of the other cubs, but she definitely knew the little ones who were blessed by the king.
It was his halting Elvish that was famous.
The funny mispronunciation incident that happened in the cafeteria at noon today spread throughout the school, and Kumandi became the target of ridicule by all the goblins.
The young goblins winked at Kumandi and kept saying "I want some quiet time".
Kumandi was a calm person. When he heard "I want to be alone", he didn't get angry. Instead, he asked, "What do you want from me? Do you want to practice white magic together?"
Which goblin didn't know that Kumandi was a studious maniac? He created his own magic spells at a young age, and any goblin who "practiced" with him ended up in a miserable state, either lying in bed for seven or eight days or unable to leave the house.
When Leah first stepped into the classroom, she saw Sperian wearing a flower crown.
He is indeed different from others, with a serious and ruthless aura.
Perhaps his poor learning of the Elvish language caused him considerable psychological pressure, forcing him to work harder.
There were elf cubs who were slow to learn to speak in the past, but they did not have the worries that Sperian had. They played, slept, and ate as they pleased, without any psychological pressure. When they grew older, they naturally mastered several languages.
Knowing Sperian's shortcomings, Leah doesn't expect much from him.
But now, what did she hear?
A mature, melodically complete, wonderful song never before heard.
The music is very simple, with only a few notes switching back and forth. It sounds very lovely and makes one feel uplifted.
The other fairy cubs gradually stopped plucking the strings and looked at Shu Li playing the piano with admiration.
Sperian is awesome!
He can play the harp without any lessons!
The song is very short, just over a minute.
Shu Li recorded the recording perfectly and breathed a sigh of relief.
good!
His musical talent did not disappear just because he changed his body.
Putting down the harp, he looked up happily, and suddenly met more than twenty pairs of burning eyes. He was startled and quickly gathered his wings in front of him to wrap around himself.
Why...why are you all staring at him?
"You play very well." Leah smiled and clapped her hands, praising him generously. "Excellent!"
"Pa pa pa pa—" The other cubs clapped their hands, and the applause was as loud as thunder.
Discio and Angel's big eyes sparkled as they looked at Shu Li with great admiration.
The boss is worthy of being the boss. Except for speaking slowly, he is so awesome in other aspects!
Shu Li was nervous for a moment as he suddenly became the focus of everyone's attention, but he soon calmed down, his delicate little face radiating energy.
After being a poor student for so long, it’s time to be a top student for once!
Otherwise, he would be really sorry for the music teacher who taught him for ten years.
