Chapter 116 The Treasure in the Box
"Argo, how did you get that blood?"
Shu Li asked curiously.
He was genuinely shocked at the time. The blood on Ilio's palm looked so realistic, so bright and sticky, it fooled everyone.
"It's jam." Ilio took out a bottle of red jam from his storage ring.
Since his costume had an open collar, he slipped the storage ring from his neck onto his finger as an ornament. After singing the elven hymn, he bent over and coughed, taking the opportunity to take out red jam and smear it on his palm, making it look real.
Shu Li took the jam, put it under his nose and sniffed it, surprised: "It's Kukuguo's jam."
He licked the corner of his lip greedily. "Can I have some fruit?"
After a long night of tossing and turning, I've long since digested dinner and am now ravenous. Normally, I shouldn't eat the fruit stored in my storage ring just in case, but it's the middle of the night, and I'm in my room, with no one around, so I should be able to eat it, right?
Elio looked at the little elf's expectant eyes, smiled and nodded: "Eat!"
"Hey, great!" Shu Li happily took out two peach-like fruits, chanted a water spell, cleaned the surface of the fruit, and gave one to Ilio.
Ilio took the fruit and took a bite.
Shu Li ate with gusto, his cheeks puffed up.
Well, the fruits produced in the Fairy Forest are still delicious.
As he ate the fruit, he asked, "What's in the box that Hobde gave you?"
"It's Hobner," Ilio corrected. The little guy still had the habit of slipping up and down occasionally.
Shu Li shrugged. Who would remember such insignificant people so clearly?
Ilio took out a palm-sized box and saw a magic circle pattern engraved on the lid.
Seeing this, Shu Li hurriedly stopped him: "Be careful, there is a seal!"
After being tricked once, he became very sensitive to magic circles and never dared to lift the seal rashly again, for fear that it was another terrible curse.
Elio smiled and said, "It's just a small seal, no curse."
The little guy was bitten by a snake once and has been afraid of ropes for ten years.
He chanted a spell to break the seal, and with a "click", the box opened automatically.
Shu Li stared at the box intently, so nervous that he even forgot to eat the fruit.
When the lid of the box was fully opened, the treasure inside was revealed - a dark red ore.
"What is this?" Shu Li asked.
Elio raised an eyebrow, picked up the fist-sized red ore, and examined it carefully under the magic stone lamp.
"It's a sunstone," Ilio said. "It comes from three thousand meters underground in the Wobba Canyon. It's probably of eighth grade quality, and its value is no less than that of a sunstone."
"Wow!" Shu Li exclaimed. The sunstone on his magic wand was a gift from Mr. Orochi, a top-grade gem found five thousand meters below the Wobba Canyon. This sunstone, three thousand meters underground, must have been incredibly difficult to obtain.
Hobner said that this was a treasure he obtained fifteen years ago. He seemed to cherish it very much. Not only did he seal it with a magic circle, he also carried it with him.
Taking this as compensation shows his sincerity.
However, life is priceless.
If a real human musician played the elves' poetry, no amount of top-quality treasures could bring back the lost lifespan.
"What's the use of Sunstone?" Shu Li asked vaguely after taking a bite of the fruit.
Ilio placed the ore back into the box and explained, "It's a material for crafting magical armor. It's fireproof and heat-resistant. Wearing armor inlaid with Sunstone allows unimpeded travel to extremely hot regions like volcanic deserts."
Volcano? Desert?
Shu Li's eyes lit up.
He had previously researched and learned that the Fire Spirit might be in the desert of the Izerafar Empire. If he had a set of Sunstone armor, would he have a chance to find the Fire Spirit?
Ilio handed the box to Shuri. "Here you go."
Shu Li hurriedly postponed it. "I can't accept it. This is Hobner's compensation to you."
Ilio bent his fingers and tapped the elf's forehead. "I've lived for over five hundred years, and I know what treasures I can't find. You played along with me, howling a little. This Sunstone is your reward for your hard work!"
Shu Li blinked.
Seeing that Ilio didn't care, he happily accepted it. "Thank you, Argo."
Ilio said, "When we return to the Elven Kingdom, I will ask the king to make you suitable armor."
Shu Li was confused: "Why did you ask Wang to do it?"
He can find the owner of the armor shop in Shenshu Commercial District!
"The king's forging skills are unmatched." Ilio's lip curled. "You are the king's disciple, so you can make some small requests of him."
Should I tell the little guy that some of the clothes he wore in the Elf Kingdom were cut, sewn and enchanted by the king himself, and mixed in with a pile of clothes and asked Saiya to give them to him.
"But..." Shu Li scratched the back of his head, feeling a little embarrassed.
Even though he was the Elf King's disciple, he could not be arrogant because of his favor. How could he let the king condescend to make protective gear for him?
"Don't worry, the king is easy to talk to." Ilio shared his experience. "When I was a kid, I was much more talkative than you. I'd ask the king for this and that every few days, but the king never got angry."
Seeing Shu Li's incredulous expression, he stroked his smooth chin. "As a child, isn't it natural for you to be a little willful?"
Looking at his annoying appearance, Shu Li was sure that he was definitely a naughty kid when he was young, the kind that gave the Elf King a headache.
After finishing the fruit, I felt three-quarters full, so I stuffed the core into my storage ring and took it back to use as seeds.
"Argo, keep the gold coins." Shu Li pointed to the bag of gold coins on the ground.
Dragon King Harmon gave him a lot of gold coins, which were piled up like a mountain in the tower of the storage ring. He couldn't spend them all in several lifetimes. He didn't want to add to the burden, so he decided to give the money to Ilio!
Although Ilio may have as much money as him.
Elves and fairies are immortal. The longer they live, the more wealth they accumulate. A thousand gold coins is just a drop in the bucket for them.
Ilio didn't delay and put away the gold coins.
Shu Li took out another letter.
This is the letter of recommendation from Job, the testing teacher of the Magic Association.
"Argo, what should I do with this letter?" He was a little embarrassed. "I'm afraid I'm going to let Teacher Job down."
His trip this time was purely accidental. After meeting the Queen of the Dalia Empire, he returned to the Fairy Forest. It was impossible for him to report to the Saint Villiers Magic Academy in the courtyard with this letter of recommendation.
Teacher Job thought he had discovered a magic genius, but he didn't know that this magic genius was actually a goblin from the Goblin Forest.
"Keep it for now." Ilio patted his head. "When you come of age, you'll go to the mainland to gain experience. Studying at a human magic academy will be a compulsory course."
Shu Li was surprised: "What?"
What does it mean that it is one of the compulsory courses in studying at the Human Magic Academy?
Elio said, "Although humans have shorter lifespans and are less gifted than we are, they possess a profound spirit of exploration. They enjoy research and innovation, forging ahead generation after generation, pursuing higher levels of knowledge and practice. This is truly worthy of our learning."
Shu Li suddenly understood: "So that's how it is."
Fairies and elves are highly talented, but their lives are too comfortable, so they tend to become complacent. In contrast, humans live in a poor environment, constantly fighting for resources, and are forced to innovate and change.
Only by learning from others' strengths and making up for one's own weaknesses can one keep pace with the times.
He put the letter away carefully and waited for another opportunity to use it.
I just don't know if this letter of recommendation will become invalid when he reports to the magic academy.
He stretched and yawned, feeling sleepy.
"I'm going to bed!" He jumped off the chair and went into the bathroom to wash up.
Elio took out clothes from his backpack and handed him a newly bought piece of clothing. "Wear this."
Shu Li took the clothes and changed them in the bathroom.
The quality of the new clothes I bought is much better than the coarse cloth clothes, and they finally don’t rub my skin red when I wear them.
Seeing the small red mark on his neck in the mirror, he cast a wood magic healing spell on himself. As the green light fell on his skin, the small red mark gradually disappeared, and his skin returned to normal.
Shu Li touched her smooth neck, walked out of the bathroom with satisfaction, and saw the soft big bed. She jumped three times, pounced on it, rolled to the side, pulled up the quilt, and lay down obediently.
"Goodnight, Argo."
Without waiting for an answer from Ilio, he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Elio shook his head with a smile, lowered the brightness of the magic stone lamp, went to the bathroom to wash and change clothes, and when he was done, he lay down on the other side of the bed.
Shu Li thought he could sleep until dawn, but when he was about to fall into a sweet dream, a familiar voice called softly in his mind.
"Little Sperian... Little Sperian..."
It’s the mother tree!
Shu Li's sleepiness instantly disappeared. Considering Ilio who was sharing the bed with him, he did not open his eyes, but turned over and faced away from him.
[Oenomisis? How did you contact me?]
This place is tens of millions of miles away from the Elf Kingdom. Can the telepathy between the Mother Tree and him reach such a distance?
"My roots are spread across the entire continent, so my consciousness is naturally everywhere."
"If most of the root system hadn't been contaminated by darkness, you wouldn't have to travel all the way to the Dalia Empire's capital. Instead, you could have teleported directly from the root system to the palace and delivered the letter to the queen."
After listening to the mother tree's explanation, Shu Li understood.
Affected by the curse, he almost forgot the mother tree's incredibly developed root system.
[So, your roots are buried in the ground near the hotel?]
'Yes. '
'But I didn't reach you through these roots.'
[What do you mean?] Shu Li was confused.
"The roots here are not purified and are not obedient. I sensed you through the magic wand you bought today."
"Ah? A magic wand?" Shu Li was surprised. "That's just a low-level magic wand!"
"Yes, it is indeed a low-level magic wand, but its shaft is made of my roots."
Shu Li: ...
"It seems some weapon maker dug up my roots and made a batch of low-level magic wands, which they sold across the continent."
"You were lucky enough to buy one and cast a long spell with it, activating the remaining vitality within the staff. My consciousness sensed it and came looking for it."
Still... is it still possible?
Shu Li was shocked.
He casually bought a magic wand in a weapons shop, which turned out to be the root of the mother tree.
The magic wand was placed in the weapon shop. It was inconspicuous, crudely made, and of low quality. It had been gathering dust in the corner for a long time.
If I didn't need a magic wand to deal with it, I wouldn't have chosen it.
It is really sad that the magic wand made from the roots of the elven mother tree is treated like this by humans.
What a pearl covered in dust!
I wonder how many low-level mother tree magic wands there are on the continent, ignored, forgotten and discarded by humans.
