A sun without warmth
“Sister,” Yu’an broke the silence, “Let’s find a way to burn that place down. So many corpses will bring disease.”
Yuan dedicated himself to spreading the knowledge he learned from another world. Thanks to his efforts, many people learned about the cause of the plague. After being reminded by him, Edward took the matter very seriously and immediately decided to take Vivian, who was of the fire element, to deal with the corpses, but was stopped by Sorea.
“Vivian might not be able to accept that kind of place, so I’ll take the fire-elemental inscription scroll and go there again.”
Sorea suppressed her fear of the forest. Having been pampered since birth, she was able to remain calmer than Lilith when facing the corpses, purely because she had seen various bizarre and illogical evil gods with her mother.
Louis could tell that Sorea was putting on a brave face, so he insisted that she sit down and rest while he and Edward dealt with the land.
Some time after Edward and Louis left, Sorea and the others felt a heat wave coming from afar. She poked her head out of the ground and saw that the direction of the forest had been engulfed by fire. A moment later, Edward and Louis came running back, covered in soot.
"Sister, those civilians were terrifying. Edward and I didn't dare go into the forest. We set fire to the outer edge of the forest. We waited a while to make sure the fire reached the woods before we were surrounded and attacked. It was a great difficulty to run back." Louis lay on the ground, panting, to rest.
After discussing it, Sorea and the others decided to go to the factory again at night, because if they acted during the day, they would be watched like targets.
The air inside the tunnel was stagnant. After observing all night, Solaya found that no one would come to the houses. In order to let the wounded breathe fresh air, she lifted the cover over the tunnel. However, the sky outside was not the bright daytime they had imagined. The sun was hanging in the sky, but the sky was pitch black, and there was hardly any light on the ground. It was as if the sun's heat and light had been swallowed up by the darkness.
"How did the sun become like this?" Vivian stared at the strange sun in fear. The sun belonged to the authority of the God of Forging, and this was the God of Forging's vassal state. Vivian couldn't imagine what kind of power could challenge the God of Forging's authority here.
Sorea immediately put the lid back on, and in the dark underground, only the light from the fire scroll provided a unique warmth to the group.
Sorea's expression was grave as she gathered everyone around her: "No, we can't wait until night. Who knows what might happen if we wait that long? We need to get to the textile factory right away. Is there anyone willing to come with me?"
“I’ll go with you!” A strange female voice rang out from behind them.
Sorea turned around abruptly and saw that one of the branch knights, who should have been asleep, had woken up and was looking at them with pained and desperate eyes.
“Can you tell us what you know? I don’t trust this man,” Sorea said, kicking the unconscious Johnson beside her.
“I am Monica, a knight of the Knights Guild stationed in Vespera. Our guild has twelve members.” As she spoke, tears streamed down Monica’s face. “When our second team sent the textile factory workers back to rest, they were attacked and went missing. When our first team discovered the second team was missing and went to investigate, we found… we found that the second team had been completely wiped out!” Monica was already sobbing uncontrollably as she spoke, and Sorea could clearly see the hatred in her eyes.
Vivian, her eyes glistening with tears, went up to Monica, who was in despair, and hugged her tightly, trying to comfort her and encourage her to pull herself together: "We were sent by the Knights' headquarters. Don't worry, we will definitely avenge our heroes."
"What level of knight squad are you?" Monica suddenly thought of something and asked with a ferocious expression, "I was the least injured. I vaguely heard that after those people subdued us, they seemed to report the situation here to headquarters in our name."
Sorea placed the task list they had accepted in front of Monica without saying a word.
When Monica saw the list clearly written as "One-Star Mission Acceptance Personnel Trainee Knight Squad," she felt dizzy: "You guys run! The situation here is at least four-star level. I'll wake up my teammates in a bit. You're young, and we'll risk our lives to get you out of here."
Monica was consumed by self-reproach; she hadn't expected that their negligence would lead a squad of trainee knights into such a dangerous situation.
“Although this is our team’s first mission, our team has three demigods, two level nine inscription mages, and one level eight inscription mage.” Lilith patted Monica, signaling her to relax.
Monica was even more stunned after hearing this. She felt that she must have been away from headquarters for too long to know that the trainee knights at headquarters were so powerful.
While Monica was narrating, Sorea was thinking about what they should do next. After they finished speaking to Monica, she ignored Monica's expectant look and said her own thoughts: "Euan and the injured Monica stay here. The rest of you go to the textile factory with her immediately."
As they prepared to leave, Sorea pulled Yuan aside to a secluded spot, patted his head, and said, "Yuan, if we can't return from the textile factory within a day, immediately ask Father to descend and lead them away."
“Sister, you should have Louis ask Father God to descend first and help you deal with this evil god who is causing trouble in the shadows.” Yu’an didn’t understand why Sorea wouldn’t let Louis ask Father God to descend here.
Sorea shook her head and said helplessly, "You haven't reached the demigod level yet. Your bodies can only last for thirty seconds at most. That's enough time for Father to break the barrier and take you out, but it's definitely not enough for Father to deal with the evil god. If the three of us demigods don't return within a day, it can only mean that the evil god is here."
After hearing Solaya's words, Yu'an opened his mouth as if to ask something, but Edward began urging Solaya to leave, so he could only suppress his confusion.
In fact, Yu'an's confusion is what Soria is most worried about. Last time, the appearance of the Primal Godmother on the Singri Continent could be said to be a divine descent achieved by relying on believers. However, the influence of the power of the Greedy Blood Eye on Vespera here can be said to indicate that there is a problem in the inner and outer worlds. The evil god can already use that loophole to reach the real world. Otherwise, the evil god would not appear so frequently.
After reviewing the recent events, Sorea realized that Vespella's problem was a minor one compared to the fact that the evil god from the underworld could escape the surveillance of the righteous gods and reach the continent.
Should we force our way in?
Louis's words brought Sorea back to her senses, and she realized that they had arrived near the textile factory.
Edward shook his head when he heard Louis's words and told Louis that they needed to climb over the wall from the weakest point in the defense.
Edward climbed over the wall first, knocked out several workers who approached from behind, and after looking around to make sure there was no danger, he gestured for Vivian to follow, followed by Lilith and Louise, with Sorea bringing up the rear.
When Sorea climbed over the wall and sat halfway up the highest point of the fence, she looked up at the red sun as if sensing something, and felt that someone was watching her from the sun.
How could there be anyone on the sun? Soraya subconsciously channeled her divine power into her eyes, looking at the sun with her golden eyes. Even with divine power covering her eyes, Soraya still felt a sharp pain.
Despite the excruciating pain, Sorea ignored the patrolling workers in the distance and immediately shouted tremblingly in Edward's direction, "Run into the building quickly, as fast as you can!"
Upon hearing Soleria's prompting, Edward immediately grabbed Louis with his left hand and pulled Vivian with his right, running towards the building. Lilith glanced at Soleria worriedly, but Soleria didn't dare to say anything more, her eyes telling Lilith to hurry, hurry up.
There is no one on the sun, because there is no sun at all. The red sun in the sky that has no light is the true form of the greedy blood-eyed being. It disguises itself as the sun, which explains why the god of forging did not react at all when it offended the sun's authority.
Sorea just used her divine power to break through the disguise of the greedy blood eye and look directly at the true form of the evil god. If it weren't for the divine blood flowing through her body, she would already be a pool of filthy blood.
The moment Solaya spotted the Greedy Blood Eye, it locked onto her. Although Solaya turned around the instant she saw it clearly, she could feel the gaze on her growing stronger. Solaya realized that the Greedy Blood Eye was watching her.
The best way to escape the gaze of the Greedy Blood Eye was to quickly find a building to hide in. However, when Solaya saw that Edward and his group of four had not yet reached the building, she gritted her teeth, stopped all her movements, and exposed her body completely to the Greedy Blood Eye's gaze. Solaya wanted to make herself His prey and make Him give up tracking Edward.
When Sorea saw Lilith, who was bringing up the rear, also enter the factory building, she ignored the piercing gaze behind her, jumped over the fence as fast as she could, and ran desperately towards the complex. But no matter how fast she ran, the gaze behind her remained steadily fixed on her.
Soraya saw herself getting closer and closer to the building's door, but the Greedy Blood Eye behind her didn't react at all, just staring at her. However, she didn't feel relieved, but rather more terrified. Soraya knew that the Greedy Blood Eye loved to absorb the aura of despair.
Sure enough, just before Solaya was about to enter the building, she sensed a strong malice. An attack shot out from the body of the Greedy Blood Eye. Relying on her understanding of the Greedy Blood Eye, Solaya crouched down at the last second.
Although Soraya reacted extremely quickly, the attack still grazed her back and struck the building. With this slight touch, a large amount of blood began to flow from Soraya's back.
She watched as the building cracked from the attack of the greedy, bloodthirsty eyes, and couldn't imagine what it would be like if that attack landed on her.
Solaya knew this was not the time to be distracted. She continued moving forward, and with a roll, she successfully entered the house. As she moved, her blood flowed all over the ground.
Edward and Lilith immediately carried Solaya to a place without windows. Only then did Solaya realize that her clothes were completely soaked with sweat and blood, and that she was weak in her limbs due to fear and blood loss.
