Unexpected events in Ram City
Upon learning that Soraya wanted to go to the Singri Inscription Academy, Lilith volunteered to take command of the giant tortoise operation.
Under Soraya's guidance, Lilith quickly learned to command the giant tortoise controlled by divine power, and then enthusiastically picked up a map to find the nearest route.
"Miss, I have a feeling that the route we're taking isn't quite right?"
Based on her years of experience as a pirate, Lilith consulted a map and determined that their destination was the land north of the Osenia Empire, but now they were moving south.
"What's wrong? Aren't we heading north?"
Sorea took the map, looked at the directions, and pointed to the route with her finger.
Lilith followed Soleria's gaze, her eyelids twitching. "Young Miss, can you tell me which way is north?"
"We're heading north, aren't we?"
Lilith thought to herself, "Just as I thought, I shouldn't have expected a pampered prince to know the way."
She said to Sorea with a sigh, "We're heading south."
Sorea looked awkwardly at the map in her hand, her ears slowly turning red.
If she hadn't met Lilith, she would have gotten lost before her solo adventure even began.
"Shall we head north now?" Sorea quickly changed the subject.
Lilith shook her head and traced the route on the map with her hand, saying, "You've strayed far from where you landed. Heading north now will waste a lot of time. We should land in Ram, one of the five major cities of the Steel Kingdom, then pass through a small city in the neighboring Life Empire and finally reach the Academy."
Sorea felt it was better to leave professional matters to professionals, so she completely entrusted the route planning to Lilith.
Three days later, under Lilith's guidance, Solaya successfully reached the shore.
"Young Miss," Lilith said shyly after thinking for a while, "I don't have a single penny on me right now. The weapons in the Steel Kingdom are really good. Could you please pre-order some gold coins for me..."
Sorea glanced at Lilith, took out a knife from her storage scroll and handed it to Lilith, "Here's your knife for now, I'll give it back to you when I need it later."
Lilith immediately clutched the knife to her hands; she felt that with the knife back, her courage had returned!
"Lilith, do you think we should buy some guns or something?"
Lilith snapped out of her reverie upon hearing Soleria's words and asked in confusion, "Isn't this thing from your Osenia Empire? The quality of guns here is definitely not as good as yours, so why buy it here?"
Solaya, remembering how her two brothers had taken the gun she bought because they thought it was dangerous, reluctantly explained the reason to Lilith.
Several teenagers were squatting at the gate of Ram City. When they saw Lilith and Soraya leave, they surrounded them and began to boast about their ability to lead the way.
Sorea was so overwhelmed by the noise of the children who swarmed around her that she couldn't hear a word they said. In the end, she called on the oldest red-haired boy to ask him some questions.
“Ladies, I am John, and it is my pleasure to serve you.” The boy bowed to Solalia and Lilith, mimicking the manners of a gentleman he had seen before.
“I know all the places and attractions in Ram City, as well as some places to buy weapons.”
Sorea was surprised to see John talking about buying weapons; she hadn't expected that selling guns could be so open and aboveboard in Ram City.
In the Sea of Death, only knights can approve the purchase of such items by commoners.
Led by John, Sorea and Lilith walked through several alleys to a dilapidated steel house.
John stopped and said softly to Lilith, "The best blacksmith in Ram City is inside, but don't be surprised or look around when you go in."
Sorea asked, puzzled, why.
John's voice was even softer, and Sorea and Lilith could barely make out the word "dwarf".
Soraya's expression changed drastically in an instant. She never expected that non-humans could now leave their own divine kingdom.
Lilith looked at Soleria's expression and dared not speak. After all, she hadn't expected to see dwarves here. It might not matter to others, but to the son of the Ocean God, it was a blatant provocation.
After thinking it through, Lilith pulled Solaya aside and, using a soundproof rune, cautiously advised, "Miss, there are only two of us now, and we don't know how many dwarves are on the other side. Let's buy what we need and then leave."
Sorea nodded. After all, she had been assassinated by dwarves in the Sea of Death, so it wasn't particularly strange for dwarves to appear in the Iron Empire.
But when she turned around and saw her two older brothers, she still had to remind them.
Before entering the steel house, Soraya placed another rune on her body to prevent the divine light from emanating from her.
As soon as they entered, the two felt the temperature rise, and then they saw a dark-skinned dwarf, shirtless, in front of the boiler, hammering iron blocks with a hammer taller than himself.
John shouted, "Master Rowan, I've brought you a guest!"
"Why are you yelling so loudly? My ears aren't deaf." A rough voice came from behind him, but Rowan continued what he was doing. "I'm in a critical situation here. Let them wait."
John scratched his head sheepishly and apologized to Sorea, "Ladies, I'm so sorry, the master is busy. I disturbed him. Please wait a moment."
Lilith nodded in agreement, while Soria remained silent, surveying the room before her.
"What do you want?" Rowan finally remembered his guests.
Before Lilith could even speak, Rowan took a few steps back in disgust.
"You reek of the filth of an evil god. When will the followers of an evil god be allowed to roam the continent openly?"
Lilith, already irritable from waiting in the sweltering room for ages, was further annoyed by Rowan's disdain. She strode forward, shoved her knife into Rowan's workbench, and stomped her foot on the surface, yelling:
"I am at least a human, what are you? You can live openly and honestly on the continent, why can't your old woman like me?"
Rowan paid no attention to what Lilith was saying; his eyes were almost obsessively fixed on the knife stuck in the workbench.
"My Lord, this is my Lord's work, what a perfect work!" Rowan knelt on one knee before the knife, praising it incessantly.
His actions disgusted Lilith, who quickly withdrew her knife and took a few steps back, fearing that Rowan might get carried away and lick her knife.
"We're here to investigate. Give us a straight answer, we don't have time to waste on you," Sorea stepped forward and said coldly.
Rowan also came to his senses, his previous impatience vanished, and he smiled as he introduced the weapons to the two of them.
When Sorea saw Rowan's smile, she felt a sticky, nauseating sensation rise in her heart. Her intuition told her that danger lurked behind that smile.
Lilith also saw Rowan's smile, and stepped aside to shield Solaya behind her. Sure enough, Rowan's eyes followed her knife, and he gave up staring at Solaya.
In her discomfort, Sorea quickly finalized the purchase of guns and ammunition and then hurriedly left the area.
"Do you know how to quickly reach the border of the Shengxi Empire, which connects to Ram City?" Sorea asked John.
Intuition told Sorea that she had to leave Ram City as soon as possible. She had originally planned to visit Ram City, but now she had to leave quickly.
Although Lilith was not a god, she was a demigod-level inscription master, and she also felt that she needed to leave this place as soon as possible.
Sorea might make a mistake if she sensed something was wrong on her own, but if two demigods shared the same intuition, then staying here would definitely lead to trouble.
"A steam railcar, do you two know about it?" Having heard Rowan's words, John knew that the two people beside him were chosen ones of the evil god, and now he just wanted to get rid of these two troublesome people as soon as possible.
"The two gentlemen should be from the Osenia Empire. Osenia is mainly composed of islands, and the fastest means of transportation there is the steamship, while the fastest means of transportation on our land is the steam railcar."
John quickly explained and led them to the station, showing them how to buy tickets.
Sorea understood John's fear and gave him a gold coin as a reward and compensation.
Although different countries have different currencies, metal currencies are universally accepted and more popular on the continent of Singri.
One gold coin can be exchanged for ten silver coins, and one silver coin can be exchanged for one hundred copper coins. John can usually only earn ten copper coins a day by working hard. One gold coin is undoubtedly a huge sum of money for a commoner like him who is struggling to make a living.
After expressing his gratitude profusely, John ran home; the money was enough for his family to live on for half a year.
Sorea and Lilith didn't dare to delay and immediately boarded the bus with the earliest departure time.
“Young Miss, I didn’t expect there to be such a fast thing on land. I feel that the principle of this thing is similar to that of a steamship.”
Lilith sighed as she looked out the window at the scenery rushing past. She made her living on pirate ships, and this was her first time on the mainland.
Sorea nodded absentmindedly. She should have felt curious about this new thing, but for some reason, she still felt a strong sense of unease.
"Lilith, stop playing around and be careful," Sorea reminded Lilith, who was constantly opening and closing the window and sticking her hand out.
Just then, Soraya clearly saw a steam railcar veer wildly out of control and crash into their vehicle.
With the power of Sorea and Lilith, they could have escaped unscathed before being hit.
Sorea knew very well that the impact was aimed at her and Lilith, but she couldn't just stand by and watch the innocent people in the car get hurt or even die because of her.
With a determined heart, layers of inscriptions and totems lit up on Solaya's body. Lilith, who was preparing to leave in another direction, only saw Solaya crash into the out-of-control steam railcar.
She cursed under her breath, then quickly changed her movements and jumped over with Sorea.
