Chapter 42 Earthworm Plague

Yang Shen had a bad feeling and quickened his pace.

Along the way, he saw many holes burrowed by mutated earthworms, and occasionally he could see mutated rats and spiders chasing and preying on the mutated earthworms.

"Awooo..."

Further away, infected individuals were fighting with mutated earthworms, tearing apart and devouring large numbers of them.

However, Yang Shen saw a mutated earthworm as thick as a bucket emerge from the ground and swallow an infected person whole.

"How come there are so many earthworms underground in Heyang County?"

Yang Shen sensed something was wrong.

They had encountered mutated earthworms before in the underground parking lot in the east of the city, but he originally thought it was just a coincidence.

But what he saw now made him realize that things weren't so simple.

Perhaps it was suppressed by the ghost tree with human skin that prevented the mutated earthworms from emerging from the ground.

Now that the Human Skin Ghost Tree is dead, and it is estimated that it was its own explosion that has awakened the mutated earthworms that were sleeping underground, and those mutated earthworms have all emerged from the ground.

Although these mutated earthworms pose little threat to Yang Shen, they are a huge threat to ordinary people because of their sheer number.

"It seems the relocation needs to be expedited!"

Yang Shen quickened his pace, using a combination of agility and strength to create his own power-generating techniques, covering four or five meters in a single step, and quickly disappeared at the end of the street.

The South Camp, a six-story building.

Liang Yueqin and the others were also harassed by the mutated earthworms. Many mutated earthworms crawled out from the first floor and frantically attacked the surrounding humans.

Fortunately, Yang Shen provided everyone with weapons, so after the initial panic, people realized that although those mutated earthworms were frightening, an ordinary person could easily kill them.

The mutated earthworms seem endless; no one knows where they'll emerge next, making them incredibly annoying.

"Brother Shou, what exactly happened? Brother Yang should be alright, right?" Mao Ya killed a mutated earthworm and asked Gao Shou in a low voice.

"You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"

Gao Shou's eyes flickered, his mood somewhat complicated. He could roughly guess that the previous explosion was related to Yang Shen.

With such a terrifying explosion, could Yang Shen still survive?

He wasn't worried about Yang Shen's life or death, but rather about losing a big, thick leg.

"Pfft pfft..."

Several more mutated earthworms emerged from the gate, and Gao Shou rushed over and hacked them to death with his cleavers.

"Hey? Is that Brother Yang?" Suddenly, Mao Ya saw someone approaching quickly in the distance and exclaimed in surprise.

"Brother Yang?"

Gao Shou hurriedly looked up.

"Look, it's Brother Yang back."

"Are you really back?"

Many people crowded to the front door and looked outside.

Yang Shen moved several meters at a time, quickly approaching the building, and a suffocating atmosphere followed, making people feel tightness in their chests.

Surprisingly, as soon as that oppressive aura appeared, the mutated earthworms that had just emerged from the ground immediately retreated back inside.

Liang Yueqin, who was arranging for people to move the supplies up to the second floor to prevent them from being destroyed by the mutated earthworms, rushed to the front door after hearing the news and looked up.

Yang Shen walked in, looking travel-worn. The many tears and bloodstains on his clothes showed that he had just experienced a fierce battle.

"As expected, the commotion earlier was related to him. How could he have survived such a massive explosion?!"

Liang Yueqin was shocked and could not calm down.

Yang Shen entered the building grounds, frowned as he looked at the ground riddled with holes, and asked Liang Yueqin, "Where's the car I asked you to prepare?"

"Huh?" Liang Yueqin was taken aback: "You...you mean you really want to leave Heyang County?"

“I knew beforehand that once I killed that tree, there would definitely be big problems. The mutated earthworms are just the prelude; there will definitely be even bigger troubles later. Now, go and prepare the vehicles immediately.”

Yang Shen's words were obviously nonsense; he had no idea that killing the Human Skin Ghost Tree would have such consequences, but that didn't stop him from using it as an excuse.

After hearing Yang Shen's words, Liang Yueqin's focus shifted, and she asked in shock, "You really killed the Human Skin Ghost Tree?"

"What? A ghost tree made of human skin?"

"Is it that tree in the small square?"

"That devilish old tree from two years ago?"

Upon hearing this, the people at the South Camp gasped in shock, as many of them knew how terrifying that tree was.

Now that Yang Shen says he killed that tree, everyone's first reaction is disbelief.

However, considering the recent massive explosion, they began to believe it.

"Pfft pfft..."

Suddenly, several earthworms poked their heads out from outside the building.

Yang Shen looked over coldly, and as soon as he released his aura, the earthworms immediately shrank back in fright.

Many people who witnessed this scene were secretly shocked; it's true what they say, comparisons are odious, the gap is just too big.

When they encountered mutated earthworms, they had to personally go and kill them.

But Yang Shen only glanced at them and was enough to scare away those mutated earthworms; they were on a completely different level.

"You have one night to find enough vehicles to load the necessary supplies and people onto them. We will leave Heyang County early tomorrow morning."

Yang Shen spoke expressionlessly, releasing his aura to intimidate everyone: "I'm informing you, not asking for your opinions. I'm too lazy to reason with you now. Anyone who's dissatisfied and doesn't want to leave, I'll personally keep you here."

After saying that, he turned and walked outside. When necessary, he would not be merciful. He needed a large population to provide him with experience and would not allow anyone to lead a disturbance. He had to deter such behavior.
