Chapter 14 Potions "So, whether it's a potion or a weapon, you've hidden it..."
Catherine secretly observed the giant snakes in the snake pit, ignoring the boy beside her who was clinging tightly to her clothes because he felt extremely insecure.
"Sister, what are you planning to do?" The boy wiped away his tears; he had recovered from his initial panic.
He noticed that Catherine was staring intently at the activity inside the snake pit, and he roughly guessed that she and he had the same goal.
They all wanted to escape.
“That’s a good question.” Catherine thought for a moment, then suddenly turned to the boy and smiled brightly. “What’s your name?”
"Lu... Lucas..." For some reason, Lucas had a bad feeling when he looked at her smile.
"Okay, Lucas, since you're so brave as to venture into the Devil's Forest, you must have come prepared, right?"
Catherine held out her hand to him: "So, potion or weapon, which have you hidden?"
Lucas swallowed hard, about to speak, when Catherine silenced him with a kiss.
“Don’t tell me you don’t have anything to save your life.” Catherine stared at Lucas, not missing a single change in his expression. “Since you also want to escape, you can’t just do nothing and rely on me alone.”
The enticing yet threatening words made Lucas abandon his initial denial.
“A little.” After saying this, Lucas’s shoulders slumped.
"But that amount is far too little! There are so many giant snakes in this snake pit, the potions I brought are not nearly enough."
After Lucas finished speaking, he reached into his collar. After a moment, he pulled out a small bottle.
He did not lie to Catherine.
He carried very little potion, enough to kill only three giant snakes at most. It was precisely because of this small amount that he was able to keep it hidden in his clothes and avoid being discovered by the giant snakes that had abducted him.
Catherine took the potion from his hand, and a sly smile appeared in her eyes as she looked at the light purple liquid in the transparent bottle.
"That's enough."

Somewhere in the Devil's Forest
The grass on the ground rustled as a giant, alien spider darted about among the leaves—it was Tarasco.
Half a day earlier, he followed the lingering scent in the air to a huge cave, but the snake that stole Catherine was not inside.
He wanted to continue following the scent, but he didn't know what the snake had done outside his cave; the scent was so chaotic and hard to distinguish.
"The wicked and cunning serpent race!"
Tarasco gritted his teeth.
However, his only good news so far was that Catherine should still be alive. There was no trace of her in the cave, nor any fresh human blood; he just didn't know where the snake had taken her.
Devil Forest is too big...
Finding a small, delicate human being in such a vast forest is an enormous undertaking.
Tarasco paced back and forth anxiously.
He wanted to find Catherine's whereabouts right now, but the vanished scent in the air left him stuck here, waiting in vain.
However, not long after, Tarasco felt an unusual tremor coming from deep underground, and the soil and gravel on the ground began to shake irregularly. Because it happened so suddenly, he didn't even have time to stand properly and took a step back.
He immediately lay down on the ground to listen to the sounds coming from underground. But he could only hear some chaotic rustling sounds, which sounded a lot like... the movement of reptiles crawling by.
At this moment, more than two hundred meters down from where Tarasco was, a chaotic scene was unfolding in a huge underground cavern.
In the very center of the cave lay three giant snakes, and a closer look revealed that they were already lifeless. Without exception, each snake had a ferocious expression, clearly indicating that they had suffered greatly before their deaths.
The other giant snakes glared angrily at the two humans remaining in the cave. The poison that killed them must have come from these two humans!
Was it that boy? Or that woman? Or perhaps...?
Were they both involved?
To be honest, in the brutal environment of Devil's Forest, the death of their own kind didn't particularly enrage them. What truly stirred their emotions was the poison that had been planted in the food mountain!
If the first few giant snakes they ate hadn't shown signs of pain, they might all be dead here today!
If Catherine knew what they were thinking, she would just laugh.
No, no, no, even if you eat all of that mountain of food, at most only those three giant snakes will die. The rest will just suffer from vomiting and diarrhea for a while.
There's only so much poison available. You have to ingest a sufficient amount to be fatal.
Arnold gave the two men a sinister look, the faint hissing of his tongue making their heartbeats race: "Kill them both!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than he heard a rustling sound nearby. Arnold turned to look and saw Xavier emerging from the swarm of snakes.
Arnold's tone was chilling: "What, Xavier? Don't tell me you want to save that human race..."
Xavier's expression was unreadable, but it certainly didn't look like he was going to let Catherine and the other person off the hook.
“How could that be?” Xavier grinned. “Heh heh, those two will have to endure the most painful punishment to atone for our fallen comrades!”
The giant snakes around them suddenly started moving. Without hesitation, Catherine grabbed Lucas and ran towards the nearest cave entrance.
Even after administering the poison, they consciously moved slowly in that direction so they could escape more quickly.
The giant snakes behind them surged rapidly toward their location, but because of their enormous size and their movement in one direction, the originally spacious area became crowded, and their speed had to be slowed down.
