Chapter 147 Big and Small Grass

The two little girls beside her were even thinner than beans, and their clothes were tattered. She remembered that Da Cao and Xiao Cao were five and two years old, respectively. Both of them had big heads and small bodies, like stick figures. Song Anxin couldn't bear to look at them. Ever since she started raising children, she couldn't stand seeing children suffer.

At this moment, Lin Fengnian spoke up: "Sister Daxi, why are you back? Your uncle and aunt have gone to the county and are not home. Please come and sit at my house for a while."

Lin Daxi held Wu Xiaocao in one arm and Wu Dacao's hand in the other. She glanced timidly at Song Anxin and said to Lin Fengnian, "Fengnian, no, I'll just wait for my parents to come back at the door."

Song Anxin knew that Da Xi was afraid of her, after all, she had a bad reputation before. Sigh, it was all the original owner's fault.

She smiled kindly and said, "Great joy! Bring Da Cao and Xiao Cao to your second aunt's house. Your parents will be coming back later and will also be having a reunion dinner at your second aunt's house. It's perfect that you're here; our family can have a good get-together."

Lin Daxi was a little confused by Song Anxin's smile. When had her second aunt ever been so kind to her? And could she have heard correctly? Her parents were going to her second aunt's house for dinner later. When did the two families become so close?!

Lin Fengyao had already run to Lin Daxi's side. He pulled Lin Daxi and said, "Sister Daxi, why don't you come to our house first? Little Sisters Dacao and Xiaocao, I'll give you some of my snacks."

Lin Daxi was pulled into Song Anxin's house by Lin Fengyao in a daze. The two little ones, Dacao and Xiaocao, couldn't help but follow Lin Fengyao when they heard that someone was going to give them food.

After entering Song Anxin's house, Lin Daxi sat in the courtyard looking extremely uneasy. She had returned home once last year, so how come her second aunt's house had become so grand in just one year? And what was Aunt Song doing here? And Zhang Mei, how did she become Fengnian's wife?!

Lin Daxi was full of questions, but dared not ask a single one.

Meanwhile, Lin Fengyao was sharing his snacks with Da Cao and Xiao Cao. Da Cao was already a little sensible, so she politely thanked Lin Fengyao and took the snack in her little hand. She stared at the snack, hesitant to take a bite.

This was food she had never seen before. She carefully licked a small bite, and her eyes immediately lit up. It was sweet! She had only secretly licked the bottom of the bowl when her grandmother gave her younger brother Da Bao some sugar water, and that was the taste. That's when she realized that this was what sweetness was.

But the pastry in her hand tasted so much better than the sweetness at the bottom of the bowl that she savored it, licking it little by little.

This was the first time Xiaocao had ever eaten something so delicious. She was small and often didn't get enough to eat, so she devoured the food in no time.

After finishing her meal, she blinked her big eyes and mumbled, "Uncle, eat, I'll eat."

Wu Xiaocao is only two years old and doesn't speak very fluently yet.

Seeing this, Lin Daxi quickly pulled Xiaocao over and whispered to her, "Xiaocao, Uncle Fengyao has already given you some food. You can't ask your uncle for any more."

The little grass blinked, tilted its head, thought for a while, and said, "Little grass, I won't eat, I won't eat."

At this moment, Da Cao brought her snacks over to her younger sister and said, "Xiao Cao, you eat, I'm done eating."

However, his eyes remained glued to the pastry in his hand, and he even swallowed hard.

Seeing the conflicted look on their faces, Lin Fengyao immediately ran to the inner room and took out all the pastries he had brought out, stuffing them all into Da Cao and Xiao Cao's hands: "Da Cao, Xiao Cao, your uncle has plenty more here, eat up."

Before Lin Daxi could stop them, Xiaocao immediately started eating noisily, as if afraid someone would take it from her. Her mouth was full of pastry crumbs, but she still held up a piece of pastry and offered it to her mother, saying, "Mom, you eat, it's delicious."

As they talked and laughed, their eyes narrowed and their mouths stretched wide. Da Cao handed the snacks in his hand to his mother, saying, "Mom, they're delicious. You should have some too."

Lin Daxi wanted to stop her but couldn't bear it, and tears welled up in her eyes: "Mother won't eat, you can eat the grass, big and small."

She turned to Lin Fengyao and said, "Fengyao, thank you. These snacks must be expensive. I only have two coins here, so please take them."

This was all the money she had left. At home, her mother-in-law controlled everything. This few coins were only given to her by her mother-in-law after she asked her to come to her parents' home to borrow money for her travel expenses.

Lin Fengyao immediately waved his hand and said, "Sister Daxi, I can't accept this. Mother said we should learn to share. As their uncle, of course I should share with them."

Seeing this, Old Mrs. Song looked distressed and said, "Oh dear, these two little darlings are so pitiful, it breaks my heart to see them like this." She turned to the inner room and called out, "Xin'er, quickly bring out the mooncakes you made for these two little ones to eat."

At this moment, Song Anxin came out of the main room carrying tea and a few mooncakes. She smiled and said, "Mother, you're here. How could I not give some to my niece and two granddaughters?"

She overheard their conversation and praised Lin Fengyao, saying, "Fengyao is so thoughtful. I'll buy it for you again next time I go to the county."

Lin Fengyao was still a little heartbroken about the bag of pastries, but when he heard his mother praise him and say that she would buy him more, he immediately said happily, "Thank you, Mother."

Song Anxin then said to Lin Daxi, "The children are sharing their food with each other. Why are you giving him money? It'll only create distance."

He then placed the tea and mooncakes on the table.

The weather is nice today, neither too hot nor too cold, so setting up the table in the yard for dinner is perfect.

"Great news! Come and have some tea. There are also mooncakes that your second aunt made herself. Please try them too."

Lin Daxi and Da Cao and Xiao Cao stared wide-eyed at the mooncakes on the table. These were much more exquisite than the pastries they had just received, especially the white mooncakes, which were small, crystal clear, and looked delicious.

Lin Fengyao also felt the urge, but his mother wouldn't let him eat too much for fear of upseting his stomach. He said, "Mother, can I have one too?"

Song Anxin smiled: "Okay, you can only eat one, okay? We'll have lunch later, so don't overeat."

Lin Fengyao immediately picked up a snow skin mooncake and ate it after getting his mother's permission. He also stuffed one into the hands of Da Cao and Xiao Cao, saying, "Da Cao and Xiao Cao, you should eat too. This is much tastier than the pastry from before."

After taking a bite, Da Cao and Xiao Cao stared wide-eyed in disbelief, feeling as if they had tasted the most delicious thing in the world. They even forgot to say thank you, completely absorbed in the taste of the mooncake.

Seeing this, Lin Daxi looked rather embarrassed: "Look at these two girls, they forgot to thank your second aunt as soon as they started eating something delicious. Your second aunt is really grateful that you were willing to bring out such good things to treat us."

Holding the tea in her hands, she could hardly believe that her second aunt would do such a thing.
