Chapter 7 Auditions (Part 1)
What a strange name...
After hearing Mo Bei's self-introduction, this thought flashed through the minds of the three high school students.
But since they were friends of their dad/good brother's dad, they couldn't be so blunt in their criticism. After a slight nod, they pretended nothing had happened and began to introduce themselves.
The boy with dyed yellow hair is named Zhou Mingyao, and the other boy with dyed blue hair is named Fan Le. They are both Lu Yu’s best friends and junior high school classmates.
Because of playing in a band, three people who were not in the same high school got together again.
When they learned that "Youth Project" was coming to Yuehai City for offline auditions, the three of them immediately decided to participate.
In order to avoid long queues, Zhou Mingyao and Fan Le arrived at the audition venue at 4 a.m. wearing their performance costumes and carrying their musical instruments to reserve seats in advance.
Hearing this, Mo Bei subconsciously looked at the instrument bags on the boys' shoulders.
Guitar, keyboards, and one is... lead singer?
Looking at Lu Yu, whose hands were empty, Mo Bei asked tentatively: "What is your role in the band..."
"Lead singer!"
The red-haired boy puffed out his chest proudly, with an expression that said, "Come and praise me."
Although Mo Bei didn't know Lu Yu's specific strength, he could roughly infer his level from his father's previous reaction.
However, in order to save the other party's face, he still gave a few flattering compliments.
This also made the young man more confident.
"Brother Mo Nan, when I become famous, you can have as many autographs as you want!"
Most young people are simple, and their joy and anger are written on their faces. Perhaps because he felt that he was valued, Lu Yu's address to Mo Bei began to change from "you" to "Brother Mo Nan".
Although it felt funny, Mo Bei couldn't make any big expressions and just nodded with a stiff face and said okay.
At the back of the team, someone sneered after hearing Lu Yu's boast.
"There are all kinds of birds in the forest."
The sound was not loud, but not quiet either. Anyone standing nearby could hear it.
This made Lu Yu feel a little embarrassed. For a moment, his fair face flushed red, and with his striking red hair, he looked even more like a red tomato.
Before he could form a response, Zhou Mingyao and Fan Le on the side immediately rolled up their sleeves and walked towards each other.
"What are you talking about! Say it again if you dare!"
The two teenagers, with their colorful "Shamatte" hairstyles and unfriendly expressions, looked like thugs who were not to be messed with. For a moment, the man suddenly shut up.
Everyone who comes here hopes to be selected by the program crew to participate in the variety show and become a star in the future. No one wants to cause trouble for no reason.
No matter how much he disliked the other person, he didn't want to make a big deal out of a small quarrel.
Zhou Mingyao wanted to say something, but someone grabbed his clothes tightly. He turned around and saw Lu Yu turned away without saying a word.
Such behavior was obviously inconsistent with his usual character, but Zhou Mingyao thought about it and understood why.
Lu Yu's father had always been against him pursuing his dream, and even the opportunity to participate in the audition was something he had to fight for with great difficulty.
If you get into serious trouble and your parents need to be called, it won't be resolved by just a scolding and confiscation of your credit card.
For their own purposes, whether it was the candidate who disliked the three people or Lu Yu who was inexplicably ridiculed, they all took a step back.
The quarrel between several candidates was just a small ripple on the lake, and soon the long line returned to its original calm.
After all, compared to others, the upcoming audition is the most important.
At 9 o'clock, the tightly closed door of the venue finally opened.
The staff member in charge of the auditions held a loud speaker and said, "Everyone line up and get the registration form here to fill out your information!"
Hearing the staff's voice, the crowd, which had become lifeless due to the long wait, suddenly became agitated.
Fortunately, the scene did not lose order because of this. All the contestants took the paper from the staff and filled out the registration form in an orderly manner.
Following behind the three people, Mo Bei also picked up one.
Seeing this, Lu Yu looked over in surprise, "Brother Mo Nan, you want to participate too?"
Mo Bei remained calm: "Since we're here, let's give it a try. It's free anyway."
Seeing his casual attitude of "just joining in the fun when I have nothing to do", Lu Yu couldn't help but twitch the corners of his mouth.
Although he felt a little uneasy, since it was the other party's freedom after all, he didn't say anything.
After filling out the registration form and handing it to the on-site staff, Mo Bei followed the staff into the venue with other applicants for the audition.
The audition will be held in a theatre. To avoid crowd congestion that may hinder the smooth progress of the judging process, contestants will enter the theatre hall in groups of ten.
And Mo Bei happened to be the last one in this group.
Perhaps because they were about to perform on stage, the three teenagers who were chatting and laughing before suddenly became serious.
In fact, not only the three of them, but other contestants around them were also busy warming up their voices and practicing dancing.
In contrast, Mo Bei, sitting there like an old monk in meditation, was as relaxed as an old man strolling in the park. Lu Yu naturally didn't think much of it. After all, in his opinion, the other party was just joining in the fun. Whether or not he was selected was not important to him.
If you have nothing to desire, you naturally have nothing to worry about.
But what he didn't know was that at this moment, Mo Bei's heart was not as calm as he appeared on the outside.
This was his first time on stage since his death... no, to be more precise, since he turned into a zombie. It was also his first time performing without any preparation.
Compared with the completeness and excitement of the performance, his primary concern is whether he can perform standard dance moves and sing normally.
After all, he had only been a zombie for less than two days.
These past two days, he has been having a huge headache just because of the issue of survival. How can he have time to practice singing and dancing?
What's more, he didn't expect that he would be on stage so soon.
Thinking of this, Mo Bei subconsciously raised his arm and wanted to make a wave like before, but...
"Why not?"
Looking at the arm in front of him that was as straight as a steel plate, Mo Bei suddenly felt that the whole zombie was not well.
How could he possibly perform on stage like this? How could he possibly pass the auditions?
Seeing Mo Bei holding his arms and twitching stiffly from time to time, Lu Yu and the other two not far away couldn't help whispering.
Fan Le: "Although Brother Jiang is just here to join in the fun, he's quite courageous to go on stage with such a high level of dancing skills."
Zhou Mingyao nodded in agreement, "Indeed, if it were me, I wouldn't dare go on stage if I didn't know anything."
"That's you." Lu Yu adjusted his hair while facing the window glass and said, "Since they dared to come, it shows that they have strong psychological qualities."
After all, he was his father's friend, so even if he wasn't very capable, he still had to defend him for the sake of face. Moreover, he had praised him before.
Perhaps because they had a "bottom-of-the-pack" player like Mo Bei around, the originally somewhat nervous trio miraculously relaxed.
Mo Bei didn't know that his rigid dance moves had inadvertently brought psychological comfort to three high school students. At the moment, he was anxiously communicating with the system -
"What should I do? My body is too stiff to dance. How can I perform on stage in this state?"
[Host, don't worry. Once the stage spotlight is detected, the body's rigidity will be lifted, and the host will be able to move freely and flexibly.]
"What about singing?"
After two days of training, his voice was not as hoarse as when he just woke up, but it was still a long way from the level where he could perform on stage.
[The same applies to the vocal cords. However, since the host's body is now a corpse, it will inevitably decay, so the vocal cords may be unstable.]
Mo Bei: ???
"Potentially unstable? What does that mean?"
If there are signs of decay in the neck, the vocal cords will naturally be affected.
"Rotten? How could it rot out of nowhere? I was clearly basking in the moonlight yesterday, and I wrapped myself up tightly during the day. Besides, it's cloudy today, and there's no sun!"
The host seems to have misunderstood the condition of this body. The system needs to correct this. Before it is completely revived, decay cannot be completely prevented; it can only be delayed.
Mo Bei was instantly alert, "What do you mean? Will it rot even if I'm not exposed to the sun?"
[Yes. It just decays relatively slowly.]
Hearing this, Mo Bei's expression became more solemn. "Even if the decay slows down, it's still rotting. If this continues, won't I be reduced to a skeleton sooner or later?"
"That's not the case. The moonlight and the stage spotlight can repair your decaying body. And as I've said before, if you can gain the affection of the living, your body will stop decaying and avoid the backlash of corpse poison."
[Of course, the premise of all this is that there are enough living people who like you.]
[This is equivalent to the fact that having enough immune cells in the body can kill cancer cells.]
After listening to the system's explanation, Mo Bei was silent for a moment and asked, "So my vocal cords are now rotten and damaged?"
[Ding! Now conducting a full-body test on the host.]
[Test results show: The host's gastrointestinal tract is slightly decayed. No other areas show obvious signs of decay. However, the host's vocal cords are partially adhered to the skin and flesh of the throat, and are now in a state of severe atrophy. The vocal cords are damaged by 60%.]
Mo Bei:!!!
No wonder I’ve been having trouble speaking these past two days. It turns out it’s because of vocal cord atrophy.
[It has been detected that the host's stored moonlight power is sufficient to repair the vocal cords. Do you want to repair it?]
"repair."
Mo Bei didn't hesitate at all.
He is about to go on stage, and he must adjust this "rotten and broken" body to the best condition.
As for whether there would be any other side effects after consuming the power of moonlight, he was unable to consider it for the time being.
After all, success comes from carefulness, and wealth is sought through risk. But now the arrow is on the string, and he has no choice but to shoot.
[Okay, now for vocal cord repair.]
[Repair time: 5 minutes. Please do not move around.]
Hearing this, Mo Bei subconsciously glanced at the other contestants waiting in line in the theater lobby, feeling a little uneasy.
Just now, three groups of people came out after their performance.
Five minutes should be enough, right?
