Chapter 10: Breaking off the tail and escaping

Rejecting the taxi driver's offer of help, Shui Yiyao took out her 200-pound travel bag from the trunk herself. She looked relaxed as if she was camping at the beach.

The driver took the fare and left, and before leaving he reminded her that the tide would be high tonight.

After the car left, Shui Yiyao looked around. It was dark now and there were no lights on the roadside, so she couldn't see the environment clearly, but she could see that there was no one around.

Shui Yiyao looked out at the sea in front of her. The dark blue surface was surging with wind and waves. She gritted her teeth, slung her travel bag over her shoulder, clutched the golden conch in her palm, and ran out to sea. A wave soon hit her, and the cold water instantly submerged half of her body. She was almost knocked over.

The tide is rising very fast.

With one wave after another, Shui Yiyao's figure was soon submerged in the sea.

After entering the sea, Shui Yiyao subconsciously closed her eyes.

The sea water was cold and the tide was rising. Every time she swam a distance, she was pushed back a distance by the sea.

The bag on my back is very heavy.

She felt like her spine was about to be broken and she couldn't breathe.

When she was still a person on land, she also felt heavy, but not in this way. In the deep sea, the bag on her back should be lighter, and she should be like a fish in water, but the fact is that she can't bear it anymore.

It felt like there was an iron mountain pressing down on my back, making it hard to breathe and even making me want to cry.

Is this the legendary delicate mermaid princess?

It was much better in human form. If it weren't for the fact that human form was not very fast at swimming, Shui Yiyao would have wanted to use human form.

She sighed deeply, pulled her shoulder straps, took a deep breath, held the golden conch tightly, and rushed towards the center of the sea. No matter what, she couldn't delay.

The deeper you swim, the lower the temperature of the sea water becomes and the visibility around you becomes lower and lower, becoming gray and black.

A slippery little fish suddenly brushed past her arm, giving her a start. Other strange sea creatures swam past her, but she didn't dare stop to look, continuing to rush towards the seabed with her eyes closed.

The holy land of the mermaids is in the south of the sea, at the bottom of the sea.

In Shui Yiyao's impression, the journey from land back to the underwater holy land is a very long one, which could take her most of the day.

But Shui Yiyao discovered that in fact, she had already approached the holy land in about half an hour.

Before entering the seabed, she was worried that she would not be able to find the way, but after entering the sea, she found that there was a mysterious force calling her there, and she naturally understood in her heart that that was the holy land.

The Holy Land is a small underwater city.

A golden city.

In the middle is a small dome palace with a sparkling night pearl on top.

"Come out, don't hide!"

After approaching the holy land, Shui Yiyao discovered a group of people surrounding the holy land's walls.

There were nearly a hundred people on the other side. They were dressed strangely and kept cursing and shouting at the gate of the holy land.

"The pollution is so severe now. You'll faint in less than half an hour and die in an hour. Let's see how long you can hold on!"

"Why are you so stubborn? Follow us, and we'll make sure you live a good life!"

The holy land was completely encased in a layer of transparent foam. This was its defensive layer, left behind by the mermaid ancestors. It was incredibly powerful, capable of warding off invasions from other races. As a mermaid, she could ignore the defensive layer and enter directly.

Now, she had to rush in before she was discovered. If she was discovered... she alone would not be a match for so many people.

She did not slow down, but put the golden conch back into the side pocket of her travel bag and took out the sheathless dagger she had prepared from the side pocket.

She gripped the hilt of the dagger tightly and stared at the bright night pearl on the top of the palace. She wanted to rush in from here. This route was the shortest and there were reefs around to protect her. She wanted to get in before they discovered her.

Getting closer, getting closer...

The night pearl on the palace ceiling became brighter and brighter in Shui Yiyao's eyes.

"There's a mermaid out there!"

Suddenly, someone shouted.

"The golden one is the mermaid princess Shui Yiyao!"

Shui Yiyao began to panic, and her hand holding the dagger trembled. She was discovered.

She bit her lip, not slowing down at all, and rushed towards the palace around the reef.

Just a little bit more.

The last stretch of distance. They definitely couldn't catch up with her if they came over now.

"Swoosh!" An arrow suddenly shot up from below and stabbed towards her body.

She continued to rush forward, and the arrow was getting closer and closer in her eyes.

She swung her tail suddenly and deflected her body away from the arrow.

“Shua!”

The sound of a cold arrow entering the body.

The arrow originally aimed at Shui Yiyao's heart was now stuck in the tip of her tail.

Shui Yiyao's face turned pale, and she felt her heart stop in an instant. The pain was too much. She wanted to swim away, but she couldn't move. The arrow firmly pinned her to the reef.

"Got her, got her!" someone cheered from below, "Quick, go up and give her to me—"

"Boss, she ran away!" Before he could finish his words, someone shouted again.

The man called the boss turned his head and saw that the arrow was still stuck on the reef, and there was a small light golden tip of a fish tail under the arrow.

"Shui Yiyao cut off her tail and ran away!"

Before he finished speaking, the golden figure had already rushed into the palace.

A light red bloodstain was left in the sea water.

"Was that a mermaid just now?" The leader looked at the remaining tail tip suspiciously.

"Yes, it's a golden mermaid!"

"How is this possible?" the man frowned in disbelief. "Mermaids are extremely delicate, and golden ones are especially delicate. How could they... actually cut off their tails and escape? This is impossible!"

“…”

"How could this spineless race, who can even be scared to tears by a jellyfish, do such a thing!"

“But she did it—”

"Shut up!"

It hurts so fucking much.

Shui Yiyao's vision went dark.

The pain made her question her life.

"Grand Princess!"

It was the Great Elder's voice. She gritted her teeth and looked forward.

She succeeded.

She landed at the palace gate, looked inside, and saw the elders and mermaids waiting in the palace hall.

The mermaids came out to greet her.

Watching the Great Elder approach, Shui Yiyao spoke slowly, trying to keep her tone calm and conceal her pain. "In my bag is the purifier. Take it out and turn it on."

"Princess, why are you crying...your tail! What happened to your tail?"

The noise was so loud that it made her head buzz.

She couldn't hold on any longer.

Shui Yiyao fell to the ground.

When she regained consciousness, she was already sleeping in a clam shell. The pain at the tip of her tail had subsided, and when she looked over, she saw a layer of silver liquid, perhaps an ointment, covering it.

"Princess, how are you feeling?"

Shui Yiyao raised her eyes and saw that she was surrounded by mermaids, all looking at her with tearful eyes, filled with grief.

Is she...about to die?

"I'm fine." Shui Yiyao said, then asked carefully, "Everyone, are you all okay too?"

“Will the purifier work?”
