Chapter 104: Just a King

Mo Cishu walked into the room first, poured a glass of water for Jian Yang, and motioned for her to find a place to sit down.

Jian Yang walked in and saw that his room was too tidy.

Aside from a set of cups and a work notebook, there was nothing else on the table. The mattress on the bed was neatly folded like a block of tofu, and even the most easily overlooked gap under the bed was free of dust.

His living habits are really similar to Song Ke's.

When she was camping that year, she had happened to visit Song Ke's tent once. Song Ke was the kind of person who valued simplicity in everything. Apart from a set of pens and ink on the table, there was no other clutter within his sight.

Or do all the people in the Thirteenth Division have such simple living habits?

Mo Cishu handed her the water, leaned over the table and asked, "Why are you here?"

Jian Yang: "Didn't you bring me here?"

Mo Cishu crossed his arms and said, "You know what I'm talking about."

Jian Yang raised his eyes. Oh, he almost forgot that he couldn't play dumb in front of him.

She put down her water cup and said, "I saw your news on the trending search. I don't want to drag you down."

Mo Cishu was stunned: "Burden?"

Jian Yang: "I'm not afraid of you laughing at me, but I've always been a person who easily gets into trouble. There are many things that happen even if I don't provoke others, and they won't let me go. I almost dragged others down before, and I almost killed them back then. I don't want you to be like that."

She used to think that it was because of her identity as a general that she got into trouble. But now that she was living as Jian Yang, she still couldn't avoid the troubles.

She then realized that trouble cannot be avoided by changing one's identity.

The last time she remembered seeing Song Ke off was when Song Ke was about to attack the Northern Alliance.

Amidst the yellow sand that covered the sky, the young major general, leading 30,000 soldiers, dressed in old and mottled armor, set out on the expedition without hesitation.

He could have avoided that battle.

However, the King of Daye had promised him that as long as he won the battle, he would grant him a marriage of his choice when Song Ke returned.

Even if the king chose the princess of the current dynasty, he would still agree to his request.

Everyone said that Song Ke was ambitious and that he even dared to attack the Northern Alliance in order to climb up.

But only she knew that Song Ke went to fight that battle not to marry a princess, but to marry her.

He wanted to marry himself.

But she had no chance to get married by then.

Because she had already gained more and more military power, the king was afraid that she would marry someone else and take away the power. So he made a solemn promise to everyone that such a talented person as her would sacrifice her life for the country, regardless of love.

With just a few simple words, she had already tied her life to the great cause.

In order to prevent her from losing power, the king forbade her to marry anyone or have an affair.

Song Ke didn't want her to live such a lonely life.

In order to help her escape from the predicament at that time, the major general led his troops to the Northern Alliance without fear of danger and looking back.

After that, she never saw Song Ke again...

But the king did not let her go.

The king actually already knew about the relationship between her and Song Ke.

That promise was just an excuse for him to send Song Ke away from Pingjing City.

She underestimated the emperor's suspicion and cruelty, and so did Song Ke.

In the first month after Song Ke arrived at the Northern Alliance, he defeated the enemy general and successfully recaptured a city. In the following two months, the Northern Alliance continued to win victories.

Song Ke quickly penetrated deep into the enemy's heart, preparing to capture the capital of the Northern Alliance.

Before the siege, she received a letter from Song Ke, announcing his safety, saying he would be back soon.

But on the same day, the king ordered her to take the tiger talisman and summoned her to the camp outside the capital.

Hearing that the king had made many adjustments to the imperial guards in Pingjing City recently, she felt that this trip would not be simple. Although she brought the tiger talisman, she also brought the sword "Wanfu" that she always carried with her.

Song Ke had given her the sword on her 22nd birthday, a sword he had forged himself. He had given her the sword so that she would always have self-defense and always have him by her side.

When she arrived at the camp, the deputy general she had arranged had already been replaced by the king's imperial guards.

She was not afraid, and even when she saw the looks in the eyes of those imperial guards, she was calmer than ever before.

She knew that her achievements surpassed her master's.

How can anyone be allowed to sleep soundly beside the king's bed?

This day would come sooner or later, but she didn't expect it to be now.

Looking at the king, who was about the same age as her, Ji Fu smiled and asked, "Your Majesty never visits the military camp. Why did you ask me to come to the camp to see you today?"

As soon as she finished speaking, the imperial guards drew their swords and pointed them at her. In front of her, not far to her left, was an iron cage that had been prepared long ago.

Looking at the unfamiliar faces around her, Ji Fu just felt funny.

She didn't know why the king naively thought that these imperial guards could control her.

This is a camp outside Beijing.

Not to mention her own military experience, just the soldiers stationed here are all unrivaled warriors who fought alongside her on the battlefield.

As long as she gave the order, the imperial guards in front of them could be taken down by her soldiers at any time.

It is the most unwise choice to demonstrate against yourself here.

Ji Fu slowly flicked the sword sheath in her hand away from a guard's blade, fearlessly walked towards the king, and asked curiously, "Does the king really think these people can capture this humble minister?"

The young king looked at her and for the first time displayed his domineering demeanor in front of everyone.

He said, "I don't need to arrest you. I want you to go to the prison on your own. Hand over the tiger talisman. This is my order as the king of Daye."

Ji Fu raised her cold eyebrows and said, "What if I don't obey?"

The king gritted his teeth and said, "This is the king's order!"

Ji Fu asked, "Why?"

The king said, "I have discovered that one of your lieutenants was plotting a rebellion. I suspect you are also involved in the conspiracy and will arrest you now. If General Ji surrenders, I will consider a lighter sentence."

Ji Fu sneered, "Who participated in the rebellion? Where are the witnesses? I want to confront them."

Wang Shanggao stood on the stage and said: "The witness died yesterday, but he left behind a testimony that incriminated him."

It would be easy for a king to forge a testimony.

A false accusation could send Ji Fu down a path of no return.

But she refused to accept.

Ji Fu shouted, "I refuse to accept this! If the Emperor is worried that my achievements will surpass his, he could have just spoken out loud. Why resort to such despicable tactics?"

The vein on the king's forehead twitched.

She is just a woman.

A woman who had fought some battles, was trying to ride on his head?

What qualifications does she have to say that her methods are despicable?

He said hysterically: "I am the king!"

Ji Fu angrily said, "Your Majesty, what about you? If it weren't for the Daye soldiers who defended your country to the death, your throne would have been lost when the Northern Alliance attacked Pingjing City! Do you think you are the only one who can sit on this throne?"

She now holds the power of a hundred thousand soldiers and has the support of the people. If she wants, she can rebel against the man in front of her!

A mere king who can only hide within the palace walls.

How dare you be so arrogant...
