To their complete surprise, the two crystal cores began to frantically dart around before they even touched Xiao Cheng's palm.
Both of their wristbands vibrated violently at the same time, and eye-catching pop-up windows appeared one after another, almost covering the entire screen, while piercing alarm sounds rang out.
"Warning! Warning! No player survival information detected! Do not use crystal cores without authorization! Do not use crystal cores without authorization!"
Amidst the shrill electronic sounds, the crystal nuclei suddenly hovered in mid-air, convulsing violently. With increasingly frenzied tremors, they rapidly crumbled into fine powder, eventually disappearing completely.
Xiao Cheng coughed for half a minute before coughing up blood. His face turned pale, and only his lips were stained with the overflowing blood, turning an almost eerie bright red.
After finally calming down a bit, she wiped the blood from the corner of her lips with her finger and patted Fang He's hand reassuringly: "Don't worry, I'm fine."
She was panting heavily, and her voice was barely audible, so her words didn't seem very credible.
Fang He didn't speak, but instead held her cold hand tightly in his palm, as if trying to warm it up.
"What happened next?" Xiao Cheng changed the subject, trying to lighten the mood. "Unfortunately, I didn't have enough experience points. Even after using them all, I could only take down three."
"You did a great job. You sent the strongest one away." Fang He's brows relaxed slightly, and his expression softened a bit. "The remaining two were also directly weakened to level one. You're even more impressive than I thought."
"That's rare, praising someone so seriously?" Xiao Cheng coughed and laughed. "So, after all I've done, you're not hurt, are you?"
Fang He didn't laugh. With a serious expression, he rolled up his left sleeve to show her a white mark on his forearm where the skin had been scraped: "Actually, I'm injured."
Xiao Cheng: "..." I'm too embarrassed to call it a minor scratch.
But seeing Fang He's incredibly sincere expression, she still symbolically blew on it for him: "It's gone, it's gone, pain and pain gone?"
Feeling the cool breeze gently brush past him, Fang He's muscles involuntarily tensed up. He suddenly regretted it; it seemed like he was being a little pretentious.
He lowered his gaze slightly, avoiding Xiao Cheng's overly candid eyes, silently pulled his sleeve back, and after a long pause, spoke again: "Can you still walk?"
Xiao Cheng pretended not to see his bright red ears and felt that she was indeed feeling a little better. So she tried to stand up from the ground, but her legs were so weak that she couldn't control them at all.
She sighed helplessly, looked up at Fang He pitifully, and said, "I can't leave." Then she stretched out her right hand to him, smiling ingratiatingly, and said, "Excuse me, could you lend me a hand?"
Fang He didn't say anything, but bent down and scooped her up from the ground, generously offering his back again.
Xiao Cheng instinctively put her arm around his shoulder: "So, are we now unregistered residents?"
"Pretty much, you could think of it as a bug in the dungeon." Fang He stepped on the soft sand, sinking slightly with each step, making it seem like he was having some difficulty walking.
But Xiao Cheng was carried very smoothly the whole time, without feeling any bumps. This made her secretly sigh, what kind of touching team spirit was this?
"So where are we going now? A safe house?" But as soon as she asked the question, she realized that a safe house wouldn't provide shelter for two undocumented individuals.
Sure enough, Fang He immediately shook his head, denying the guess: "We can't go there, and there's no way we can find a safe house." He gestured for Xiao Cheng to look at the half-sun on the horizon, "That's the newest hunting ground, and we need to get there before today's hunt ends."
"Meet up with the players?"
“No, quite the opposite.” Fang He shook his head again. “We need to join up with the zombies and find their new lair.”
"You're coming with me? Straight to the point?" Xiao Cheng asked tactfully. "Isn't that a bit rushed?"
Then Fang He chuckled and explained calmly, "Those who are unregistered should be aware of their status. Since the player's upgrade method is unusable, let's try the non-player's method."
Traveling through the desert is an extremely tiring task.
Time and distance seemed to have become meaningless here. Xiao Cheng had lost count of how many sand dunes Fang He had carried her over. The sun remained in the same position, hanging coldly on the horizon, its light dazzling but devoid of warmth.
Fang He gradually appeared exhausted. Excessive physical exertion and prolonged dehydration made his breathing increasingly rapid.
Xiao Cheng's condition did not improve. As time passed, her exhaustion worsened, and even her thoughts became sluggish. Her head was spinning and her vision blurred. A buzzing sound filled her ears, and she began to fall uncontrollably before Fang He caught her again.
In many moments, she felt like she was about to die, with countless blurry, intertwined figures swaying before her eyes.
“Fang He…” She moved her fingers weakly, feeling that she must have patted Fang He’s shoulder. “Put me down, I think I’ve already seen my great-grandmother.”
"Perfect timing. Please give my regards to your great-grandmother for me," Fang He replied half-heartedly.
Xiao Cheng was utterly speechless: "Are you determined to die with me?"
"Give up. Human sacrifice was no longer practiced back in your great-great-grandmother's time."
Xiao Cheng: "..." Is this the main point?!
"Don't worry, we won't die. I observed the stars last night, and it's not our time to die." Fang He took a breath and continued forward.
