Chapter 116 Alien Evolution (22)

The moment Qiao Liao opened his mouth, two lines of bloody tears suddenly streamed down his face. His already bloodless face became even paler, and even covered with a layer of deathly ashen blue.

“Inside the wall,” he continued. “The space is huge, with many players… no, most of them are no longer players. And there’s something glowing… what is that?”

He paused, his brow furrowed, as if he were really looking at something carefully and trying to see it more clearly.

"No, something is interfering with me." Blood tears flowed more and more, and he could no longer hold on. He suddenly closed his eyes and shook his head in frustration. "I can't see any more. There are zombies, lots of zombies. They're all inside the wall."

Xiao Cheng was stunned. Seeing him swaying and almost unable to stand, she asked hesitantly, "Are you...are you sure you're alright?"

"It's alright. I told you, my eyes will see what you want." Qiao Liao didn't force himself to stay strong, and sat weakly on the sofa. "I'm not fit for fighting right now, so I'll stay here for the time being."

"Then we'll be back in a bit..."

“No need to come back, I can see.” Qiao Liao casually wiped away the two bloodstains on his face, shook his head, and interrupted Xiao Cheng. “I know where to go to meet up with you.”

Since Qiao Liao insisted, Xiao Cheng and Fang He didn't want to interfere too much with his decision. They didn't know when the zombie army would return, so they needed to hurry.

“If it really is inside the wall…” Xiao Cheng almost immediately thought of the place where they found the insect queen, “We can go there and take a look first.”

"That's a good suggestion, better than aimless wandering," Fang He nodded in agreement.

But before that, they had to deal with the level 2 zombies outside the door as soon as possible.

Level 2 zombies have developed a certain level of intelligence. Although they cannot communicate directly like A009, this does not mean they are easily fooled.

Relying on her status as the Insect Queen, Xiao Cheng openly opened the door. Almost the instant she pressed the doorknob, the three zombies guarding the stairwell immediately became alert, their eyes fixed intently on the doorway.

They made gurgling warning sounds in their throats, and only calmed down a little when Xiao Cheng poked her out slightly and caught the scent of the insect queen on her.

"Can you understand me?" Xiao Cheng began to try to communicate with them, while subtly opening the door a crack wider and slowly walking out.

One of the zombies, which seemed the smartest, approached and cautiously moved forward, completely blocking her in the doorway. It spoke in a muffled, broken voice, "No... not allowed..."

"Did A009 order you to detain me?" Xiao Cheng pretended to be very angry, while subtly putting her right hand behind her back and taking the poisoned dagger from Fang He.

The zombie didn't quite understand the meaning of house arrest. Seeing that she was determined to come out, it stubbornly moved forward again, and the gurgling sobs in its throat grew louder and louder.

"No... not allowed..." it kept repeating, waving its rotting arms in a warning manner. As it drew closer, a nauseating, thick stench filled Xiao Cheng's nostrils, almost making her vomit.

"Go on, go take a shower!"

Taking advantage of the fact that the other two zombies' vision was blocked by it, Xiao Cheng swiftly struck from an extremely tricky angle, cleanly severing its throat.

The blade traveled upwards, piercing through the jaw, into the mouth, and then straight into the fleshy mass clinging to the back of the zombie's head.

Xiao Cheng could clearly feel an extremely comfortable warm current spreading along the blade to her hand, and then slowly seeping into her body through her arm.

My body felt warm and cozy, a feeling somewhat similar to when I swallowed the worm eggs, but much weaker. Clearly, the energy that the fleshy ball could provide was far less refined than that of the mother worm eggs.

It's better than nothing, to say the least.

Neither the zombie nor the flesh ball made a sound; they died silently. Xiao Cheng, with a look of disgust, pressed the back of his knife against its body, and under its cover, opened his palms towards the other two zombies.

"none."

As she parted her lips slightly, a mysterious ripple seemed to echo in the air. Before they could even make a sound, they vanished instantly, completely disappearing from this space.

The progress was going even more smoothly than expected. Xiao Cheng breathed a slight sigh of relief, casually pushed the zombie in front of her aside, glanced warily at the open door opposite, and then beckoned Fang He to come out.

Even though they tried to keep their footsteps as quiet as possible, they still managed to alert the zombies inside. At least Fang He hadn't misjudged the number; five of them swarmed out, completely blocking the already narrow doorway.

Xiao Cheng: "..." She doesn't seem very smart.

Being unintelligent is one thing, being able to scream is another. Fortunately, Fang He reacted quickly enough that the moment the first zombie let out its mournful cry, he used his supernatural ability to freeze time, completely immobilizing them in that spot.

Xiao Cheng quickly peeked downstairs, not attracting the attention of the zombies on other floors. He gave Fang He a thumbs up, then gripped the short knife horizontally. Taking advantage of the time freeze, he slapped down the zombies' heads a few times, swiftly slicing off the varying sizes of fleshy lumps on the back of their heads.

Without the control of the flesh ball, the five zombies instantly slumped down, like machines that had lost power, collapsing limply to the ground.

Fang He also went to check the room opposite to make sure that all the zombies on this floor had been dealt with. He gave Xiao Cheng a thumbs-up and then headed towards the seventh floor, which was half collapsed.

The situation on the seventh floor was no different from what they had seen last time. The hole in the wall was pitch black, barely big enough for one person to squeeze through. It was filled with twisted steel bars, which could easily pierce through if one wasn't careful.

"Is there really a lot of space in here?" Xiao Cheng peered inside with disbelief. "If we encounter zombies in here, we'll be easy prey."

"Try to look on the bright side. It's going to be tough for you to get in, but it'll be even tougher for the zombies." Fang He patted Xiao Cheng on the shoulder. "But since Qiao Liao said so, let's go in and take a look. Since even the Queen of Insects is inside, it's not surprising that we might find an experimental base or something down there."

Xiao Cheng: "..." How is it not strange at all?! How can the Insect Queen and the experimental base be the same?!

But she still decided to go down and take a look. If all else failed, she would use her superpower. After all, if she went down, at least a level two zombie would be instantly killed.

This is what confidence is all about!

Xiao Cheng instantly felt capable again. He groped his way into the hole in the dark, climbed down the tangled steel bars, and started to descend.
