Soft instrumental music begins, followed by an opening animation. The gist of the animation is that the princess is going out on a date and needs the player's help to dress her up in order to win the prince's love.
After the cutscene, the first level begins: skincare.
This level is a beginner's tutorial. You just need to click on a certain spot and it will automatically light up. The operation is incredibly simple.
"How boring," Xiao Cheng complained.
“It’s really boring.” Fang He followed the tutorial without thinking and agreed with her.
The first stage ended quickly, and Fang He received a perfect score of three stars. Then came the second stage: makeup.
Before entering the level, a message popped up thoughtfully.
"Congratulations on completing the tutorial! Now, feel free to unleash your creativity, but don't forget to respect the princess's wishes!"
Then there's a close-up of the girl's face, with icons in the top right corner indicating the different steps of the makeup routine.
The top left corner features a countdown timer that flashes, creating a sense of urgency.
"I know how to apply eyebrow makeup," Xiao Cheng instructed Fang He earnestly.
"No, I should apply foundation first." Fang He insisted on his own way, clicked on the foundation icon, and then selected a fair skin tone from the options that appeared below.
The screen flashed, and the girl's skin instantly became white and bright. Then, a pink dialogue box floated above her head.
"Thank you, I love this foundation!"
The subsequent eyebrows, eye makeup, and even blush were all fine. Given Xiao Cheng and Fang He's inconsistent aesthetic sense, they could at least get a "not bad" rating.
Until the lipstick.
Fang He looked at the screen filled with a vibrant array of reds.
My hand trembled slightly as I pressed the button.
"Which one is the rotten tomato/koi fish color she wants?"
Xiao Cheng: "..." Thank you for the invitation, but this question is way beyond my scope. I don't even know how to do makeup.
"Rotten tomatoes...not very fresh, right?" Fang He guessed uncertainly, watching the countdown about to reach zero, and randomly clicked on the dark red color in the bottom right corner.
Then, the more he thought about it, the more sense it made, and he said with certainty, "This is it, absolutely."
Xiao Cheng was impressed by his confidence. Looking at the big-headed girl on the screen, who seemed to have swallowed a person's bloody maw, she felt that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
“She didn’t object.” Fang He pointed to a blank dialog box. “It’s about to begin. Next level.”
The next step is to change clothes.
Since the Rotten Tomatoes Koi Color, the nature of the game has changed for them.
Among all the formal dresses, Fang He immediately chose a large cotton-padded coat with a green background and red flowers.
“A retro-style postmodernism,” Fang He explained earnestly. “You can understand my aesthetic, right?”
Xiao Cheng: "Quite avant-garde, but based on my limited common sense, I must say this outfit is not suitable for a date."
"Yes," Fang He said with a regretful look, "It would be even better if the skin were a little darker."
Xiao Cheng: "...Never mind, I'll save it."
"Therefore, life is rarely perfect." Fang He, transformed into a great philosopher, pressed the save button for the final level with a profound expression.
This time, there was no evaluation segment. Background music with flashing sound effects played, the screen flashed, and then transitioned to the ending animation.
The princess, dressed in a thick cotton-padded coat and trousers, confessed her love to the prince under the bright sunshine. The prince looked at her in horror and said, "Where did this monster come from!"
Then they fled in panic.
Dark clouds suddenly filled the sky, and heavy rain poured down. The girl collapsed to the ground, crying helplessly.
A sudden clap of thunder.
The big-headed girl looked up in the thunderstorm. Her makeup was smudged by rain and tears, and the heavy black lipstick on her lips was smudged, making her look particularly eerie.
A resentful expression appeared on her face, her gaze wandering as if searching for something, before finally settling on a certain spot.
Xiao Cheng and Fang He looked at her through the screen.
"ah--!!!"
The background music abruptly stopped, replaced by the piercing screams of the big-headed girl.
She scrambled to her feet, using both hands and feet, as if she wanted to leap out of the screen.
—And then it really burst out.
The screen suddenly went black, first showing half of the top of her head, then the girl's wet hair, and then her entire head and even her upper body.
Xiao Cheng watched as she roared angrily from less than 30 centimeters away, revealing three rows of sharp, yellowish shark teeth.
A strong, fishy stench hit me.
“…Damn it.” Xiao Cheng reached out expressionlessly and slapped her on the head. “You’re filthy. Go back now.”
Fang He, who was just about to fight back, thought: "...?"
But Xiao Cheng had already used brute force to push the girl back down.
The force was so great that you could even hear cracking sounds from the cervical spine as it struggled to bear the strain.
The game console screen returned to normal immediately. In the sun-drenched park, in the most inconspicuous corner, a red and green figure was crouching, pitifully holding his head.
Xiao Cheng couldn't help but reflect on herself. Was treating a princess this way a bit too violent?
Fang He's expression was somewhat indescribable. After a long silence, he subtly changed the subject: "I guess we barely passed this game?"
"Excuse me for being frank, but it's hard to say," Xiao Cheng commented quite frankly.
Regardless of whether they pass or not, they don't plan to continue the game for the time being.
"Let's go check on the progress of the others," Xiao Cheng suggested.
The big-headed girl from earlier is probably not an isolated case; it's just unclear what triggered it.
