Everyone was awakened by the shrill voice that suddenly blared from the loudspeaker.
The clown urged everyone in a strange, melodramatic tone, "Hey! What time is it?! How can you all still be sleeping?!"
"Players who show absolutely no sense of urgency, are you trying to force me to give you a hard time?"
"Alright, alright, since you've pleaded so earnestly, I'll mercifully grant your request. Now... open your eyes wide and look carefully! Whose corpse is this?"
Almost simultaneously, a phantom image appeared above each person's head. Number Five's corpse was suspended from a rusty iron hook, and where it had disappeared below the waist, a pair of poorly made wooden legs were now nailed to it.
His face was painted with heavy greasepaint, giving him a smile exactly like a clown.
"Oh dear, are you guys disappointed? No way, no way, you're not really disappointed, are you?"
The clown's mocking voice rang out again.
Xiao Cheng lay expressionless on the bed, staring at the phantom image of blood dripping down directly above his head.
Then he pulled the blanket over his head, turned over, and continued sleeping.
"Do you even respect me?!"
The clown flew into a rage, and the phantom of corpse number five was suddenly shattered, replaced by the dwarf's furious face.
"Do you think my work isn't intimidating enough?! Or do you want to experience it for yourselves?!"
It's so noisy.
Xiao Cheng, with a sour face, threw off the covers, sat up, and gave the dwarf's face a hard middle finger.
The dwarf clearly didn't see it, because he had already started rushing through the process on his own.
"Hmph, since you're already up, please look at the envelope in the first drawer of your bedside table!"
"See that? Open it right now! Your ID tags for today are inside."
Xiao Cheng pulled open the drawer and opened the quirky pink envelope. Inside was a bright red card with the words "Read and burn" written in large letters on the back, and a cartoon image on the front.
It's a sheep on a grill.
After Xiao Cheng examined the card, a spark ignited from around the corner, quickly burning the entire card to ashes.
Xiao Cheng rubbed her dirty fingertips.
His expression turned even more unpleasant.
Above their heads, the dwarf's phantom spun around merrily, letting out a strange laugh: "Oh ho ho, it's dawn! Little lambs, the wolf is coming!"
Then the phantom suddenly disappeared.
All the room doors opened automatically, the locks came off, and clumps of lush grass grew on the green carpet in the corridor.
On the walls on both sides are children's drawings with childlike strokes, probably telling the story of a wolf catching a sheep, and a henchman wearing a sheepskin killing the sheep, skinning it, and boiling it into a pot of delicious mutton soup.
Xiao Cheng walked out of the room, exchanged a glance with Fang He beside her, and then neither of them spoke, subtly averting their gazes.
The remaining five players also stood at the door, silent and with different expressions.
"Should we go downstairs and take a look?" Xiao Cheng felt that standing there like an idiot wasn't going to work, so she suggested.
“Okay.” Number One nodded, then added meaningfully, “It’s better not to act alone right now.”
Everyone understood what she meant, but no one said anything, and they walked downstairs in tacit agreement.
The first floor has indeed changed.
All the game machines and booths had disappeared, leaving the hall empty. An electronic display screen hung in the center of the ceiling, displaying a line of red text.
"The Secret of the Wolf".
"In other words, we need to use the clues here to find today's wolf," Number One said with a serious expression.
"But there's nothing here," Number Three said, scratching his head in confusion. "What kind of clue is this?"
“Clues have to be found by people,” Xiao Cheng said, looking around. “But I have to say, this place is really clean.”
The group wandered around downstairs, and Number Three even had the sudden idea to look for any secret rooms, but unfortunately, they still found nothing.
“I suggest we check each other’s rooms,” Number One suddenly said. “After all, the locks are on, maybe that’s a hint?”
“I disagree.” Xiao Cheng was the first to object. Facing the probing gazes of the crowd, she smiled calmly. “After all, I don’t like unauthorized people entering my private space, not even those in the trial.”
"Same as above," Fang He replied succinctly.
“I… also disagree.” Number Four, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up. Number Three looked at him with some surprise, and then, as if he understood something, he also expressed his opposition.
Number One didn't expect to face so much opposition. He frowned, ignored Number Two who absolutely agreed with him, and turned to look at the mute girl who kept her head down.
The mute girl seemed to sense something, looked up at her, and then slowly shook her head.
Five against two.
The proposal fell through. Number One snorted coldly, condemning their ignorance and stubbornness. Number Two didn't react much, simply saying, "Then let's look here."
While they claimed to be looking for clues, in reality, in this completely open space, everyone was mostly just going through the motions.
Xiao Cheng squatted in the corner, tilting her head and observing the crack at the base of the wall with a serious expression. She said to Fang He, "Look at this crack, doesn't it look like a number three lying on its side?"
Fang He retorted just as seriously: "No, the bottom is flat, and the two sides are more like habitual cursive strokes. I think it should be number four."
Number Three felt like he'd been unfairly dragged into this, and looked at them speechlessly: "Please, can you two focus on something more valuable?"
